Network Vision/LTE - Central Iowa Market (Des Moines and surrounding areas)

Recommended Posts

there are 3 LTE sites in the central iowa market. unless someone out in the field finds it and posts about it you have to be a sponsor to see the maps to see where it is. dems da rulez

i understand, wish i wasn't so cheap but i am on a fixed income so i have to be.

see digi's post right above yours. if you get connected again try and post up some engineering screens so we can see if its coming from the 4G accepted tower or not. based on your location and that you mentioned it was brief i'm going to guess that you were.

I'm assuming its from the tower that was accepted on the southside, the furthest i've been able to hold on to that signal is up too about East 21st and Dean ave, but crazy that I was picking it up further tonight. Oh well hopefully we see more action soon!

We have both identifiers thanks to bmoses and DsmIowaGuy for this site.

That address is within what I'd consider to be "standard" range for the existing Des Moines site.

Something may be going on at the tower at 2415 Martin Luther King Jr Pkwy. My step sister posted a pic on Facebook of a bunch of workers showing up with equipment.

I'm a sponsor and can't find where this map is with the 3 live towers?  The one I'm viewing only has the one.

Can you help me out...

I'm gonna head up to Fort Dodge tomorrow (I actually have a REAL reason other than the 4G LTE tower hehe) and see if the tower really is live...according to sprint.com/lte, there were supposed "data speed upgrades" done in Marshalltown, but I was there last month and it was still 1xRTT...I am waiting for Carroll to get these upgrades...got a buddy there letting me know the second that happens.

By the way, me and my partner (who both have 4G LTE phones) were in Chicago over the weekend, and unfortunately, Sprint has a LOT of work to do to make their 4G LTE infrastructure consistent in downtown.  It's not all Sprint's fault, though, as there are a LOT more people with Sprint service in Chicago, along with Boost, Virgin, Cricket, etc., so congestion (especially on Michigan Ave.) is common, and not just on Sprint.  I hope when the towers go live in DSM, that it will be consistent!

hey, just checking to see if you were able to get LTE in fort dodge while you were there?

Hey there!  I ended up not getting to Fort Dodge on Sunday, but got up there yesterday, and lo and behold......................

YES!  There is actual 4G LTE in Fort Dodge!  Also, not all the towers are active, but a few towers have been updated to 3G!    The 4G LTE tower is located on the North side of the US 20/US 169 interchange for Harcourt/Fort Dodge.  The remaining towers HOPEFULLY will get it, but I'm just glad I don't have to deal with 1xRTT anymore.  There is a tower lingering with 1xRTT near 21st Street (maybe they're updating it in the future?), but I got full 3G speeds at my cousin's house and at Target and Kohl's!  Here are the pictures I gathered:

nice! what was the closest intersection to you when you had it? there are a couple of towers around there, would like to narrow down which one it is.

Mitchelville has LTE live

nevermind its showing up accepted now :)

if you could though, next time you are in the area, follow the steps here to get us the serving cell info so we can add it to our sheet that would be great!

I wasn't there a friend of mine texted me, I'm assuming its that new tower by the exit.

ah, well if you ever are there, or your friend can follow those steps and get screens sent to you that you can post here we can add the serving cell IDs to our database :)

1x800 just started showing up in Indianola. Signal in my house is usually 1-2 bars, now have one short of full bars, wow.

    • You do know that T-Mobile makes money with the Tuesday app right? T-Mobile makes money when you use it for any 'free' items.
    • Not necessarily. Depends who bids for it, how much they get and what they have to pay for it. Had the merger not occurred (with Masa failing to infuse any cash into the business), Sprint would be in an even worse position as T-Mobile could have picked some up, unless AT&T or Verizon grabbed it all. Sprint was already circling the drain. This would have finished them off in my opinion. Sprint didn't have the money for lowband, and it wouldn't have had the money for this spectrum either. The efficiencies realized through merger synergies should allow T-Mobile to pick up some if it wanted to.
    • And there goes T-Mobile spectrum advantage between that, CBRS and C-Band.
    • Personally I'd keep the Airave 4.  All the femtos are the same when it comes to VoLTE. Your resets are definitely delaying it getting reactivated. I know it sucks, but you just have to leave it be for 3 weeks. Eventually VoLTE will get turned back on.   If your S10s are on Sprint (check the PLMN in the engineering screen, or use an app like Signal Check Pro), then they will eventually find the Airave again. The network completely controls what your phone connects to, unless you lose service completely. You will not end up on the Airave unless the network tells your phone to connect to it. Usually it takes up to a few weeks for the Airave to get integrated into the network and for the towers around you to know about it. Once they do, they'll allow handoffs and will move your phone to it when it's in range.   As to why the other phones see it and connect, there are a number of possible reasons. One of which is because it doesn't have VoLTE enabled (I've found that devices that use VoLTE will avoid moving to something that doesn't have VoLTE enabled). But basically it will be inconsistent until the network has integrated it. Every time you factory reset (ie, the PCI changes), it wipes this and has to start over again with integration.
    • Thanks so much for your quick response! I wonder if Sprint in my area provisioned the S10's to be on T-Mobile network by default already while they haven't done the with the S8. I also had an Airave rep do a refresh on their end and didn't seem to fix the issues for the S10's. I do have the GPS antenna and it is right next to the window so that doesn't appear to be the problem. I have reset the Airave a few times and even doing a hard reset though. Based on what you mention, that might be the reason why I don't have VoLTE anymore. Do you know if it's same process for Airave 4 to get back VoLTE or is that process only for the MB? Thanks so much for your response! Definitely helpful in trying to diagnose. Sprint also sent me a return kit. Do you think it's worth trading in for the Pebble? Or should I try and keep tinkering with the Airave 4? Thanks!
