Having a hard time providing a link. Its the note 4 vs droid turbo at 4 mins 45 secs.

You can't tell me something like this and not drop me a link lol. I'd spend all day going through her videos instead of finishing my AI project lol.

Thanks!

Yeah she will get your app more hits for sure.

I got like 90 seconds of air time. Spilt my water all across my table when it popped up... Just checked and downloads look completely normal for the last four days but your right someone will see it and download the app, especially if she keeps using it.

Maybe I will be able to afford my tuition without loans soon if I am lucky lol. God knows I'd like to stop eating ramen lol.

Sad thing is I would rather eat ramen and buy all the shiny mobile toys than eat a 5 course meal and be stuck with the same device for 2 years lol. I think I have a problem. My girlfriend agrees.

Besides, ramen is good!

Spicy chicken ramen with left over fried chicken and frozen vegetables. It's what I like to make with left over fried chicken. Well, when there is left overs. That doesn't happen very often. ;)

You are lucky that you live in Florida.  My wife and I went to Best Buy at 3PM on Thanksgiving last year and waited in line (surprisingly among the first 15 people!)...  also just for the experience.  We seriously bought an iPod and returned it the next day.  What a waste.  Anyway - the high was like 15 degrees that day.  Some light snow...  and the worst part was that LTE wasn't fully lit up in Madison at that point.  No data!!!  :frantic:

True. Well to be fair the Sprint LTE at best buy is scare thanks to my home tower still being legacy it pulls a decent band 26 from a much busier tower but I expect that tower to break down that day from pressure. Probably going to use Verizon that day since that area has xlte.

New Release: LTE Discovery v3.12

The main reason for this quick release is that we wanted to make sure everybody is adequately aware that Google has really stepped up their security/restrictions in Android Lollipop. This includes apps' ability to toggle airplane mode and cell radio. Many apps have been broken because of Google's changes. But, at least if you have root on Lollipop, then radio cycling is still possible. We'll continue to look for non-root workarounds, but at this time it doesn't look possible anymore.

Google tried to block apps from toggle the radios back in Android 4.2. So, we have been fortunately to at least have it this long.

Other Updates:

- New feature: Alerts for 8T8R (Pro)
- New feature: Alerts for LTE GCI (tower/area/sector) changes (Pro)
- New feature: Ability to change alert delay time
- New feature: "Pause LTE Mode on Wi-Fi" (Pro)
- Location card fixes

Sidenote: Finals for school are coming up very soon, so Spence and I will be having even less time to be working on LTE Discovery in the meantime. But, we do still have a very long list of great new features to add!

:)

I am a new kid on this block, but I find your LTE Discovery app interesting  especially driving Omaha NE to Des Moines, IA this week.  I saw a few channel 26s and 41s. I especially enjoyed a few places where the arrow was spinning like a top for a short bit on a HTC m9.

I have gone thu this thread, but I failed to find a set of instructions for this app.  A short something for the uneducated (like me).

I dropped in the $1.99 for the upgrade, but I failed to see anything download. How can I tell it the APP upgraded? What should I look for and what was my benefit besides a small tip of the hat your way ?? (Gladly done)

Now functioning on Android Lollipop 5.X

Thanks Mike, for answering that. It feels like there are some posts missing from this thread, as we've updated the app quite a few times (currently v3.19 for public).

Hi Jeff, thank you for your support!

Currently, there are no broad instructions for all the features in the app. But, you can interact with most things that you see in LTE Discovery. For example, some info cards on the Signals page have another hidden feature when clicked or long-clicked. Try long-clicking the LTE card ;). Oh, and in most places we have added further information because many people have asked about the many different features. For example, on the Signals page most of the "cards" have a menu button on them with the option to "Learn more". If you have any questions, I'd be happy to clarify.

Another set of in-app help that we need to make prominent is the question mark button on the Discover page. It contains more information about each of the "cycle modes", and changes info depending on which one is selected. Here's a quick preview of something we have been working on:

lte-discovery-walkthrough-preview.png

As for the Pro upgrade, it just "unlocks" the Pro features. So now you have access to:

- More settings options

- The "Cycle only when not connected to LTE" option on Discover page

- The "back" of the EARFCN card for more frequency and band-related items (just click the card)

- An extra card called "LTE Band/Site Log"

- Homescreen widgets (which we plan on entirely rewriting that code to make better)

- On the Map page, Pro users also have more menu options for another mapping feature
- On the LTE Log page, Pro users have more menu options

Thanks for the reply.  I have some learning by doing to do.

I have seen the log setting option.  Is that just for me to work with the logged info or is there a central collection point that goes thru the log automatically?

Suggestion box:  There should be a link under the three dots in the upper right below settings to exit the app.  I can find no way to peacefully exit the app.  I can turn it on, but I failed to find a way to turn it off and exit.

Thank you.

Currently, there are two different databases for logs located on the device: One for LTE that you can see on the LTE Log page, and one for 1x that you can see on the Map page. And, yes, the text data listed on the LTE Log page is exportable and you can do just about any analysis you would like on it. Though, we are actively working on a better feature for this too. In the future, we will likely allow users to optionally send us their logs automatically so that we can make a nice map with more details than other signal mapping apps, but for now that feature isn't available. Spence (the other developer) is the main one working on this particular feature and eventually, he's going to be asking for a lot of Sprint volunteers to see if they would like to get an early beta preview.

In my opinion, it's unfortunate that there are some apps with an "Exit" option in the menu. There are already three great options for Android users to exit the app (back, home, multi-task). If an app needs another "Exit" button in-app, then it could be an indicator that the app could be designed better. Hmm, as I think about it more now, perhaps you are talking about the "Live Mode" feature on the Discover page? That, in fact, needs to be designed better. I'm thinking it needs to be moved out from there because the other three options have to deal with radio cycling and that one doesn't, and could be independent of the others.

There are likely more things we also need to improve. So, thank you for the suggestion and we absolutely welcome much more. :)

I am dense.  I ran a log setting.  I can see it in LTE Discovery.  I selected Export Database, but cannot find the exported file.  Please direct me how to do that.

When I do the Start logging next time, does it just add to the log already started or start a new log (my preference) ?

@Jeff68005, sorry for the delay. Interesting, I was pretty sure that "Export" feature mentioned the location of the exported file, but I can now also see that it doesn't. The exported location is <device-external-storage-directory>/LteDiscovery/lte_logs_... Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I'll make sure to update the app so that it is more clear.

Internally, all the LTE logs will be stored in the same database, but the next time you export, you can choose to export all or export just the new logs.

We've already been rolling out our newest update for users. Currently a lucky 1% have it.

New release: LTE Discovery v4.0.3

First, let me highlight the major new features and screenshot:

- Signal Overlay: Current network and signal strength displayed anywhere/everywhere! (experimental, minimal for now)

Crowdsource: So much to say, so there has been a "Learn more" option added to the app Settings->Crowdsource ;)

- The much requested: signal strength in the LTE Logs

- Large restructure of major features and settings. Notifications and things are more unified and streamlined now

- In the app Settings->Live Mode, there is a new non-root radio cycle method for Lollipop and above devices (experimental, doesn't work on all devices, works on Nexus 4 Android 5.0 so far..)

2015-07-13%2B17.09.43.png

This version contains many large internal updates to the LTE Discovery code base, as well, so that it should be more robust on more devices. These improvements include performance optimizations.

LTE Discovery has many hidden features to discover to get the most out usage out of it. To help alleviate this (a little bit), we've changed the "Recent updates" prompt to a quick "Tip of the Day" instead. These will contain the tips that have been most useful for people learning about the app and those that reach out to us. We hope people don't get too overwhelmed when they see the many advanced features, so we recommend one to get started easily. Currently, there are only seven tips and by default will only ever show once. The other 30+ tips we've shared in the past did not make the cut.

Known issues:

- Some devices must enter the settings before the master switch can be toggled.

Active development:

- Advanced features for users built on top of the sent signal data

- Complete re-write of the widgets feature for more options (but will be superseded by the the Signal Overlay feature?)

- And, maybe some other surprises

Suggestion box:  There should be a link under the three dots in the upper right below settings to exit the app.  I can find no way to peacefully exit the app.  I can turn it on, but I failed to find a way to turn it off and exit.

Thank you.

In this newest release, now that all the major features have been unified, if any of them are on, then they will all be contained to a single notification. Very visible toggle buttons have been added to the Settings for most features. And, a single swipe of the app from the "multitask"/"recent apps" will stop all background processes and exit.

Upon activation of the update, all settings were set to off, including location in the android menu. Not sure what other android settings it reset but I'm having tons of fun figuring it out. Especially while taking advantage of my one chance to map the PR market for premièr level users. /s
