Network Vision/LTE - Oregon/SW Washington (including Portland/Vancouver/Salem/Eugene/Medford)

I had B26/41 in downtown PDX this week. B41 at the corner of Jefferson and SW 10th, and B26 in the basement of PSU's Engineering Building. B25 has been running a bit better for me as well which is of course nice too.

Does anyone know when band 26 lte will be turned on in Vancouver Washington? This super slow role out is really making me frustrated. I can't ever keep a consistent 4g signal keeps dropping to 3g.

Band 26 has been turned on since November on the west side of Portland. I would be surprised if they haven't done Vancouver already. An S4GRU premier member could tell you for sure.

Could be a lack of optimization. If the 800 mhz cell sectors have not been optimized then they won't perform any better than band 25.

We now know why it hasn't:  http://transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2015/db0701/DA-15-775A1.pdf

The FCC has not given them the all clear for counties in Washington.  But they have requested to be able to get an exemption to proceed with four SW Washington counties.  Including Clark County.  I'm pretty sure this will get approved and Sprint will be able to get started north of the Columbia River.

Thank you Robert for the information. I appreciate it. Let's hope they will get it done before the end of summer.

Looks like this thread has gone over a year without a post, but as the wife and I have a trip coming up out to Oregon (mostly the coast from border to border) next month, can anyone give any insight into current expectations of coverage?   It looks like we'd be roaming a good bit off and on in between the more built up towns - who is the main roaming provider along the Oregon coast, and would there be any possibility of the roaming being through one of the partners and considered native (expecting not, but figured I'd ask)?  Thanks in advance to anyone that can offer any insight.

There is a fair amount of Sprint native LTE coverage on the oregon coast now, just not much band 41.  Northern coast seems to be better deployed.    Verizon is the main roaming provider so cache google maps in advance if needed.

We're in Bandon tonight, after having started (coastwise) in Crescent City, CA. Thus far, the only places that have had good signal (particularly data) have been Brookings and Gold Beach. Bandon has 3G only and flaky at that (cuts in and out when its there, slow with latency when it exists. Otherwise between towns, its spotty roaming or no signal at all. As for Verizon roaming, haven't seen much of it at all- has been mostly US Cellular, with some more local carrier (Litchfield or something like that, didn't think to screen capture at the time).

I'll post more later, our next overnight is Depoe Bay.

Hrm, for some reason the edit button is greyed out on my previous post - anyway, meant to state that I did see LTE roaming on US-C at times.

Bandon by the Sea. Many memories there. And of Gold Beach.

We're in Astoria finally. Here, Lincoln City, Newport and Coos Bay have fairly solid LTE. Otherwise from Bandon to here its somewhat of a crapshoot coverage wise still. Saw a little more Verizon roaming than before but never very usable even then and mostly 2G only. Saw US-C roaming (some LTE/some not) a few more times as well, but there are areas you'll find absolutely no coverage voice or otherwise along US 101 in Oregon unfortunately.

Whenever we come back we'll probably spend at least 2 days in Bandon - the beach area there is awesome and so (relatively) peaceful, there weren't many people around the morning we were walking around. The Samuel H. Boardman area to Gold Beach is amazing too.

Are you talking about along the coast, or inland? Other side of the mountains is a stark contrast from my experience, it was still in the 90's when we were in Medford before heading down to Crescent City. The weather did crap out on us unfortunately yesterday with rain/fog. We could barely see a thing from the Cape Perpetua lookout, and based on that (plus timing to a smaller degree) I also nixed a planned hike on the upper trail to the lookout area at Cascade Head.

Forgot to mention, Seaside has consistent native LTE as well. Cannon Beach might too, but we unfortunately didn't have time to spend there this trip.

At times last week, it got up to 85-90° even at the coast. We were having warm dry air from the Inland Deserts blasting us. Glad that's over. Back to our normal 65-75° end of summer weather programming. And rain.

Where in Washington did you move too?

By the way was in Long Beach WA this weekend. Service is pretty crappy there mostly roaming everywhere. Very few times had native coverage.

Is Seattle getting any LTE 800 love or is Canadian IBEZ still blocking those frequencies from being deployed?

The last I read was there was still a Washington State public agency that has not fully cleared. But that should be out of the way anytime now.

    • Well you officially fried my brain. Many of these topics are well beyond my very rudimentary amateur knowledge.. this has my head spinning even more than usual. When someone figures it out, just let me know what I need to do with the app! 😂
    • Confusingly, there are two different types of Cell IDs, the NR Cell ID (NCI) and the Local Cell ID, which I will call the LCID from here on out. From my understanding, @Trip is trying to get the LCID from the NCI but the same gNB is showing up for multiple sites in the app. Some background for those that don’t know about NCIs (NR Cell ID) and how they relate to gNBs and LCIDs. Just like the E/GCI which is comprised of the eNB + LCID with the eNB denoting the site, the NCI is comprised of the gNB + LCID with the gNB denoting the site. A major difference is that the eNB is a fixed number of bits in the E/GCI but the gNB can vary between 22-32 bits (out of 36) in the NCI and there is nothing transmitted which tells you what the length is. The reason for the mentioning LTE sites is that Verizon’s gNB numbering scheme in most of the USA is based upon the sites eNB (using the rules I mentioned) and a 22-bit gNB. Additionally, their LCIDs start at 25 and increment by compinations of 16 and 1. Basically, it is common to see LCID sets of 25/26/27, 41/42/43, and 57/58/59. Looking at Trip’s data and some other data from the area, they are not following the format used in the rest of the USA.  From what I can tell, they are using a 29-bit or 30-bit gNB (that gives LCIDs that follow Verizon’s standard patterning). 29-bit shares the same gNB across the two locations, while 30-bit splits the two sets: 18504107674 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 26 (29-bit) or 289126682 + CLID 26 (30-bit) 18504107690 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 42 (29-bit) or 289126682 + CLID 42 (30-bit)  18504107691 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 43 (29-bit) or 289126682 + CLID 43 (30-bit)  18504107706 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 58 (29-bit) or 289126682 + CLID 58 (30-bit)  18504107707 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 59 (29-bit) or 289126682 + CLID 59 (30-bit) 18504107738 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 90 (29-bit) or 289126683 + CLID 26 (30-bit)  18504107739 - gNB 144563341 + CLID 91 (29-bit) or 289126683 + CLID 27 (30-bit)  If true, this is a problem for SignalCheck and other mapping apps because this means they are using at least two different gNB lengths depending on the location in the USA.
    • Yeah I can confirm that the status bar is updating correctly and as often as the main app!  Great to have that back after so long. Waiting on the app to pick up the 5G data.  I'm on AT&T and I find that it only reports the 5G signal data a fraction of the time.  Once I can get it to pop back up I'll send a report with the LTE RSRP showing up in the status bar instead of the NR RSRP. I am not sure if it is new behavior with the Beta because I had it set to just show the Band since I couldn't display the band and signal at the same time. Edit:  Sent a diagnostic and here's a screenshot:
    • Yes, for various reasons the beta mapping project was limited to S4GRU sponsors at launch. It's still a work in progress but I have added a few users as it has evolved. I am inclined to leave it as-is for now -- it's not completely off-limits to discuss here (especially if there's an outage), but with so many posts I just try to keep discussions organized. RAvirani handles the map server and he monitors the other thread closer.   I might be confused, but are we talking apples and oranges here? My interpretation was Trip is talking about NR cells on different sites sharing cell IDs as far as the app is concerned, while the other comments are about LTE to NR cell ID calculations?
    • I hope this is true!! The Android development team did claim this bug was fixed several months ago, and it is typical for it to take several releases before changes are included. I was on the Android beta until I got my Pixel 9, now I am back on the public releases. With each monthly update, I have optimistically checked this icon and been disappointed. This would be fantastic to get back!   Could you send some diagnostic reports when you see this please? It is new behavior with QPR Beta 3?
