Network Vision/LTE - Washington DC Market

Recommended Posts

Looks as though there is some LTE on 495 in VA on Sensorly.

That's new! Looks like they've finally activated towers in VA. Was wondering when that would finally happen. There have been some completed sites there for a while.

I wonder if that was there during my commute. It wasn't on sensorly when I left work. Had over 600 points in mapping when I got home. couldn't figure out where I got it, cause i didn't see any 4g icons in Maryland where there was sensorly mapping from the last few days. i figured i must have been paying more attention to the road than my phone (which is a good thing right). Then i get home and see a bunch of data in VA!!! too bad there is nothing at my office...

I was just all up and down rockville pike and around there running errands, nothing. I'll be in College Park tomorrow, so I'm hoping for some good LTE vibes.

Well, I was at the REI in college park for the attic sale today and I didn't see any 4G pop up. I forgot to map with sensorly, but I doubt I would've seen anything. I'm going into DC later, so I'll map and speedtest that trip. Although my phone is still reading the 3G upload speeds wrong.

Damn I am hoping it creeps a little farther South - I was all around Kingstowne today, around Springfield Mall and then driving Telegraph - nothing.

I also left my map tracking on and ran my battery down in 4 hours lol.

If you are on LTE getting 1mbps down and 0 up, you probably have a really weak signal... if it is 3G, there is something else going on...

Sorry guys, there might be LTE there, my phone was in CDMA only mode. Found this out when I wasn't picking up even eHRPD in DC or on my home tower.

No, most pages did not open. S4GRU refused to open, Google opened easily. I tried a photo upload, failed.

Anyone know the range these LTE towers signals can transmitt (as in distance) because according to sensorly I have three towers as of now transmitting LTE all with 2 miles of my home one less than a mile but I get no LTE signal until I travel to the purple dot on the map.

Remember just because there is a blip on sensorly does not mean it is still broadcasting. It could of been caught while they were testing but since of been blocked.

I was doing a bunch on mapping yesterday while driving on 495 where there is purple but got no sign of it yesterday. I was not able to cycle my phone but I did confirm I was in CDMA/LTE mode.

I can confirm that my phone does not pick up LTE in PG county by the beltway. I also didn't get any signal in VA. Either more work needs to be done, or they stopped/blocked broadcasting until later.

I'm new to this forum, and I've seen people mention cell sites with specific ID's (for example, SF33XC664). Is there any significance to these ID's, and is there a way to decode them? Also, how do I figure out what the cell site ID's are for towers near me?
Thanks! I'm excited to start talking on this site more 😀

Samsung Network Vision equipment are highly distinct and fairly easy to spot compared to the equipment that other vendors are deploying. Sprint is Samsung's first extremely massive American contract (baring Clearwire) so there  should be no issues in confusing these equipment for another carrier which happens often with Ericsson NV equipment.

Below are images of Samsung equipment which includes antennas, remote radio units, base stations, and their mounting configurations.

Sprint announced the MVNO Google Fi will use its network for 5G in a press release (that is, once there are actually 5G capable phones compatible with Google Fi someday):

This is the first I've heard about Fi and 5G so far. Google has pretty much kept mum on the topic, so I'm somewhat encouraged.

Samsung TDD-LTE gear which are being utilized in Clearwire priority sites. .   Clearwire - Samsung TDD-LTE RRH SLS-BD106Q & Antennas           Samsung TD-LTE RRUs mounted behind BRS/EBS Antenna     Sprint 2500-2600 mhz TD-LTE Setup Note the Antennas are much thicker and fatter than the antennas being utilized by Sprint Network Vision.

    • Yes the site at the Mountlake exit off 520 broadcasts 5 L2500 carriers. Many sites in the area do nowadays. The B12 is T-Mobile/AT&T roaming. If it's displaying as Sprint, it's T-Mobile roaming and it's unlimited and unthrottled.
    • Saw a 5 carrier B41 on the 520 by UW. Also, have noticed B12 showing up on my phone as Sprint. Sent from my LG-LS998 using Tapatalk
    • This is a follow-up to my posts of Sept 7 and Sept 20. Well, things haven't worked too well with the Sprint MiFi8000.  After a promising start, things degraded quickly and I started to experience the spontaneous reboot problem that Sprint MiFi 8000 and Verizon MiFi 8800L users have reported.  Originally I thought that it was related to the signal level -- but in the end I decided it was some thermal issue.  The units do get warm...  So I sent my 4 MiFi 8000 units back to Sprint. And I was never happy with the Peplink/Pepwave Max On-The-Go (OTG) unit.  I had several problems with it and the support folks weren't very supportive.       So I bought a second HTC 5G hub (now I have two).  Attached is a photo of the two units.  I got my old Cradlepoint COR-IBR1700 out of the closet and am presently using its load balancing capability.  The 1700 has 5 ethernet ports; 4 of which can be assigned as WAN or LAN and the 5th is set to WAN.  So I set those as 1 LAN and 4 WAN ports -- the LAN port ties into my house ethernet, and two of those WAN ports go to the ethernet ports on the back of each HTC 5G hub.  But the 1700 seems to be in Round-Robin mode even though I have it set to Device Usage mode (balanced usage) -- well, it clearly isn't doing that.  The one on the right is 75.51 GB while the one on the left is 116 MB. At this point I've been very happy with this setup and the internet has worked continually for the past 3 weeks since I brought this system up.  No spontaneous reboots (e.g. MiFi 8000), no blank web-interface screens (e.g. Peplink MAX OTG), and no internet dropouts.  Scott
