Network Vision/LTE - Tucson/Yuma Market

Not Mexicos fault just, you would expect more from them after this big huge campaign over their so called "newest network"

It is out of Sprint's control.  If they had their way, the IBEZ rebanding and coordination with Mexico was done a long time ago.  It is bureaucracy in action.  Or should I say, Bureaucracy Inaction.

Hopefully it'll move a little quicker, we're in the process of reprogramming our radios to 700 Mhz

Totally agree, just give it time , need to move the congestion of the network to these other frequencies.

Tower on UA campus got 3g NV, now I can't even hold a 3g connection, it drops out or won't even connect for a week!  Hopefully LTE comes soon

don't get frustrated, sometimes they do that, when it comes back online, you might get better signal and speed.

Any word on improved 3G ( or even 2G) in San Luis AZ?

I was there this week and at times I had NO service. Had to lock my phone to Sprint only so it did not roam into Mexico......

Lateck,

San Luis and Somerton are on the same boat to Unk. Sprint keeps blaming Centurylink for their lack of backhaul. According to some of the conversations I've had with some sprint executive reps, they can't provide the amount of backhaul requested on their RFP.  They don't even have a time line.  Both San Luis and Somerton have increased 3G speeds, however both of those cities are serviced by one tower each and it gets maxed out very quick.  Lots of people from San Luis are just leaving sprint and going with Clear talk or VZ because of how horrible Sprint is down there..

update on Yuma market:  I've got very little to share with you all today on the Yuma market. So far I've not seen any building permits issued for Spark in the City Of Yuma. I"ve been in contact with Ericsson over an area of Yuma that is just not performing well; pretty much the heart of Yuma. Sprint has identified an issue with a couple of towers and are "working on it". The tower on Ave A and 32nd street has been down since Oct 4th,  The one that they identified as having issues is the one over by 18th street and Riley Ave.

And as far as Somerton and San Luis, there is nothing on their end as to when they will be lit up..

Lateck,

are you out and about the San Luis AZ area?  Sprint updated its network enhancement web page and San Luis got a couple data speeds upgrades. Usually that's an indication of LTE lit up.

Never mind, confirmed San Luis has LTE now..

Hypeo, I do not go to San Luis on a regular basis but I do go monthly.

I'll be down there later this week and I'll check for LTE with my Note 3.

And as for Yuma proper, I have not seen any improvement and even a little loss of LTE (4G) is many areas. But out at the college 4G is holding steady.

Yes, San Luis, Arizona has Sprint LTE..... I went through SL on Hwy 95 and I got lte just past Walmart. With the strongest by the Catholic Church and it disappears by time you get close to the boarder.

Lateck,

Yes, the tower is across the street from the church. The one tower does very little in San Luis, the town is so big and lte is so frágil, even 3g doesn't cover the entire San Luis city

Anyone have any updates on our 800mhz via IBEZ zoning?

From what I gathered in reading around the thread here it should be completed by the end of 2015, I know public safety in yuma is moving away from 800 and into 700 already

Yuma has like 3 cell towers and a population of 50 lol.  So Sprint owns 700 already?  Thought there was some huge auction coming

I'm not sure what this has to do with discrete math but it was one of my favorite courses in college as a math major!

Yup! CS major! And I was trying to find an algorithm run time while reading your post so my brain didn't fully comprehend.

What's your major

Here is a little insight of what is going to happen in the very near future in Yuma County..

This is from our IT dept email.

Services Impacted:

The ITS – Radio Division will be replacing existing 800MHz Radio Frequency (RF) site equipment with new 700MHz equipment at Stone Cabin as per our Rebanding agreement with Sprint-Nextel and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The Public Safety portable radio voice communications in the southern part of La Paz County and northern Yuma County on Hwy 95 will be affected. Users will encounter communication problems starting at 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM, Thursday March 19, 2015.  Please make sure to use your mobile radios in the areas affected to support your operational needs, while the YRCS RF replacement is completed.

Summary:

The RF Site equipment replacement at Stone Cabin (Yuma County – Hwy 95).  This major upgrade is for the YRCS public safety agencies.  It will replace aging 800MHz equipment with new 700MHz to comply with the FCC mandated 800Mhz Rebanding.  We will work timely to keep the outage to a minimum.

Customer Impacted:

Public Safety - Yuma County agencies, La Paz County agencies, Arizona DPS and ADOT.

    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.

    • Unable to confirm if it's really off but I noticed this morning that I'm no longer connecting to Band 41 on my home site. Switching my phone to LTE-only pretty much always put me on Band 41 since it was the least used band on T-Mobile's network. Now I'm only able to connect to Band 2/66. Not complaining because it means speeds are faster on LTE and maybe 150MHz n41 is around the corner.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
