this tower is being upgraded to LTE. boca raton fl

Recommended Posts

this tower is in boca raton florida off 441 and glades. i was at the best buy near it looking for a new tv an i walked past the tower an saw a truck. i got curiouse an got close an found 3 guys that were playing with what looked like computer server. i didnt want to take a picture of them working an get mad or look weird lol so i didnt. but i did ask one of the guys who was walking back to his truck with pipes which i find odd cause they were cutting pipes an doing a lot of banging too lol. but i asked him if they were installing 4g lte an he told me yes they are. he seemed pissed off maybe things arent going well so i didnt ask when or if they had a time table of when they will be finished. so im here to see if any one has any idea of how long it takes to upgrade a tower to lte. this is my first time seeing people work on it. but it might not be the first time i dont know. if any one could help me thank you in advance.

I spy a bunch of bird nests...

If the birds are protected then they can't really work on the tower and hence why they're mad. If the nests are vacated then probably they're just being rushed and feel unappreciated..

Just a guess ha

you could be right hahah. the guy had a saw in his hand an it was a saw that i think cuts through metal i for got whats it called. but why would they be cutting pipes an stuff?? an the truck didnt have a name on it like a company name or somthin. i heard erricson is doin the upgrades for sprint. an as for the birds a shot gun with bird shot would solve the problem lol. i didnt get a lte connection when i was near the tower so they might have just started work i guess

Any chance you could get a shot a little further out from under the tower? Hard to distinguish what's what from that angle. I don't see any NV panels yet. From your other pictures, I would expect that Sprint is one of the top two racks there. Can you tell which one they are working on?

they were actually working on the bottom where all the servers were. i asked the guy an they said they were installing lte on this tower. maybe lte software? an i think its a tower used by 3 carriers not just sprint. thats what my friend said but he is not sure an i can get you other pics

Perhaps replacing the cabinets at the base of the tower. I can see that there are several carriers there, it's a little difficult to distinguish which one is Sprint. Clear is at the bottom, I think Sprint is one of the top two. When NV goes up, it will be very clear which one it is.

Another photo from one of Robert's posts. Middle panel. You can see some of the RRUs behind the panels.

Those data speed upgrades are not NV upgrades. The Sprint Network site only tracks the Network Maintanence patches (band aides if you will) that are being pushed out to hold over the network until NV arrives. Completely unrelated to NV.

Very impressive pictures! You can even see right down to the ground wires. Even pick out the 3 separate ACU's mounted on the bottom of the panel for remote downtilt control. Definitely going to book mark these to help answer the question of "what does NV equipment look like?"

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
