Sensorly - New market deployements

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, we've been invited by one of your users to open a thread about Sensorly ( https://twitter.com/...890907013795841 ) so although I thought it was against the rules, I'll give it a shot.

Admins : if this is bad bad bad nonetheless, I'm sorry...

So... Sensorly is an app and a website that gives anyone the chance to see what kind of mobile network is available where.

What makes it different from carrier maps is that it's not based on simulations & modeling but on actual data collected by the community of users. Yes : if you install the app and opt-in, you can contribute to the maps. It gets updated constantly and will show your data within the day for sure and within 15 minutes most of the time.

Here's Sprint LTE picked up in Indianapolis by our users : http://www.sensorly....#q=indianapolis, ua

We love to get feedback from our users and although sometimes stuff takes a little time to get done, we always answer (contact@....).

Our app is also a great way to discover new markets being tested and/or deployed. Here are the markets where users have reported being connected to Sprint LTE since October 1st. As you can see, Indianapolis is there. Let me know if this is interesting and we'll find a way to get you regular updates.

I thought it might be a good idea to have some open dialog between the many users of Sensorly from this site and the maker off this very useful app.

Love the app. Look at it everyday. Used it to map out parts of Kansas lte and Cupertino lte. It was easy and seam less.

But Quick question though, I can't seem to update 3g with any regularity. Any tips. Coming from an s3. I know this is about lte, but just wanted to see if i can do something different.

Also when in map mode and you rotate screen it always goes back to your location instead of where you were looking. Kinda annoying.

Since all of Sprint's sites will be replaced by 2014, is there any plan to remove the coverage data for the "old" sites?

Does the map show the best signal report for each location? IOW, if one user reports poor signal but another user reports great signal, will the map show the great signal?

I have approved this thread. Sensorly is key to what we do and what we are all about. Welcome Sensorly!

Sensorly is great. It is real world data from real world users. This is where the rubber meets the road. Sensorly is a million times better at showing real world coverage then the carrier maps, Ive used it on Verizon and sprint wimax and 2g and it shows real results

I'm using Sensorly on my Galaxy S III with CyanogenMod 10, and I've mapped a lot of LTE coverage in the South End of Boston. 3G doesn't seem to record signal strength correctly though. Even when I have one bar in an area, it still reports full signal on the map.

This is intended for "Sensorly" as well as for the users of S4GRU Web Site. The Sensorly app does work. I personally placed about all the 4G LTE info on Sensorly around the Hagerstown,Md area by just activating Sensory and taking a drive around two new cell sites recently activated by Shentel. The bad part is that hardly anybody else appears to have Sensorly activated on their new LTE phone.

I surely burned up quite a few dollars in gasoline and did it deliberately. But this is not the way to get the mapping done fast and totally. We need quite a few people to download Sensorly and turn it on as they travel around. A US mail carrier, a UPS or Fedex carrier might really cover almost every street over a short period. I only traveled some of the major routes just to give some idea of what was available, The question is - how do we get more people to join with us to map the entire country???

Somehow we need to "spread the word" about Sensorly. People need to download the app, boot the program, click on "Map Trip" and then click "start". After your trip, you will see any coverage you happened to encounter as you drove around. On long trips, you need a power cord as the app does continuously use your phone to make checks and send the data to Sensorly. Not a extremely big battery hog, but on long trips, you need to consider the battery usage. And - you need to remember to turn the app off when appropriate.

I think this would be a great idea, rob has a facebook page wonder if that would help posting something on that atleast for a start

Is it just me, or was this thread copied to the Markets subforum by mistake? At least, I assumed that this subforum was strictly for area-specific market threads...if I'm wrong my apologies, was just curious.

Edit: if it is indeed meant to be here, then perhaps it would be a good idea to sticky this thread at the top so it doesn't get lost in the shuffle?

I was moving hundreds of threads yesterday to the newly created Markets subfolder. I saw the word market and included it in the move. I have moved it back now.

Just saw this thread for the first time, and I wonder how I missed it before.

Along the lines of feedback to Sensorly, at the top of my wishlist is that the app would provide a way for me to capture a log file with records showing my own lat/lon and data connection type, presumably the same data being uploaded to the Sensorly server.

Same here, I didn't see this thread on Thursday. I used Sensorly with my EVO 4G and CM7 back in the day, but it didn't record wimax then and I stopped using it. As soon as I get the Galaxy Note 2, it will be installed and I'll be mapping the Lansing, MI area

I updated the thread title to include Sensorly in the title. I thought many of you were missing it.

Does mapping my trip when driving add to the map or is it just the speedtests? Half of my neighborhood is unmarked on the sensorly maps via Sprint 3G/2G and so I drove through it with the map trip option selected (had GPS on, too.) and it found like 100 2G/3G points but it didn't update any to the map. This was done about a week ago. Any ideas?

I have had that exact thing happen to me several times and I never have figured out why it happens. Most of the time, things work well. I like to click on "Menu" and then "details" after I start the program. I will bring some good info to your screen and you can tell the app is calling home to dump its info. However, it is tempting to watch this screen when you should be placing your attention on driving. Beware, this can be dangerous.

I suspect that the app may go sort of "bonkers" when you are traveling through a LTE area and it is reporting this via LTE, and then you suddenly switch to a 3g cell site several miles away. Just a guess as to why it fails, but nothing more.

I've updated lots of lte points. But 3g hardly updates for me. Not sure why. Can't figure it out.

Hey Sensorly. How long does it take before our map LTE signal is updated at your server?

Has anyone draw a smiley face or write some word on the map? It would be a neat thing to do.
