Network Vision/LTE - Tampa Market

The tower on Nebraska Avenue just south of Fowler Avenue is live. The tower on Fletcher and 22nd Street is now live also. I tried to map on Sensorly but the app is so horrible lately that I don't know if it took. Also the tower on Westshore and El Prado is live.

The tower on Dale Mabry Highway near Stall Rd is live, I mapped a little. Also the tower down the street on Dale Mabry and Bearss Ave have new panels and ruus being put up this morning. Looks like also the tower near the I4 / I75 junction on Eureka Springs Rd in the Vandenberg airport property is ready to go live. It lets me connect for a couple of seconds then kicks me off.

I know a while back I posted seeing a lot of activity at Tampa International Airport, and that we have believed it to be in progress for a considerable amount of time, but all of that activity seems to have ceased over the past couple of months.  All of the new panels hung appear to belong to other carriers who have deployed LTE/system upgrades at the airport.  Using other devices from friends seem to confirm that.  However, although there may be some internal things going on there not related to panels, I have not seen any other activity at the airport.  Even with all of the updates going on in our area the airport still has not been upgraded.

There is a COW on Fletcher and the USF area near the watertower. It definatly has LTE abord because near it my db was -65 or so near it. I think someone else on this forum mentioned it before, but this is the first time I drove near it with signal check and confirmed the LTE.

Yeah, I reported on it's location when they first lost the tower on the Edge. However, prior to this it never had LTE, and for awhile it didn't even have EVDO.

This is the first time I have heard of a COW actually broadcasting LTE.  Good find!

There is one other someone mentioned in Dover, Delaware for the races. The whole North Tampa area has excellent LTE coverage now. Another one went live today on Florida Ave south of Fletcher.

Oh yeah the Tampa has the best 4g LTE coverage in Florida even without 800 and 2600 mhz LTE. My EVO LTE couldnt drop a signal there at all. That's saying a lot

Really makes me miss that city.... among other reasons of course.

I want to move there. Not as much traffic as orlando, Jacksonville and Miami which is nice and they get special treatment from all the 4 carriers. Every network in Tampa is good

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk now Free

The NASCOWs they brought out for both races in Dover, DE where broadcasting LTE. They also took one to Watkins Glen (you can see it on Sensorly). I don't know if every COW has been converted, but some definitely have been.

Downtown Tampa/Ybor is still lacking LTE, so is the airport/International Malll/Stadium area.

We know progress is still going on in outlying areas so I wonder what the deal is with these critical locations...

It could be a case of getting to the towers before birds start nesting on them.  Its starting to be that time of year..Rooftops typically aren't where Osprey next but even so they are pretty easy to work around on a roof..

Is anyone having signal issues today? At multiple locations I kept dropping LTE where I never did before. Its like they lowered the power on all the towers or something. Maybe there testing LTE 800 or something else is causing interference today.

The tower that serves my workplace has been off for the last week. But I assumed in my case they're working on adding NV 3G upgrades.

Since Tampa is a launched market, you can call Sprint and put in a ticket that the tower is down... I did on two so far.

What's funny is that I emphasized this very point in a post a while back, but totally forgot until you just said it.

Alternatively, I've gotten so used to the network fluctuations- LTE here, but not there - that it didn't really phase me when I lost LTE.

What a difference a day makes... So now the LTE is active again in my workplace. It came back about an hour or so ago after a week being AWOL. Still not not seeing any proof of my 3G upgrade theory, but it could also be that this tower serves a lot of people.

Yeah I have done that twice, the essentially laugh at me and say "OK, I will let the Network team know"

so the best speeds I have gotten in the entire TB area is when I am on a boat in the middle of the bay.  LOL

Ha well I get if a sector is pointing out to the water there probably aren't many on it lol.  Not to mention no obstructions! lol

you still in JAX or are you back in TPA? has the JAX network gotten any better? Last time I was up there LTE was very sparse.

    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.

    • Unable to confirm if it's really off but I noticed this morning that I'm no longer connecting to Band 41 on my home site. Switching my phone to LTE-only pretty much always put me on Band 41 since it was the least used band on T-Mobile's network. Now I'm only able to connect to Band 2/66. Not complaining because it means speeds are faster on LTE and maybe 150MHz n41 is around the corner.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
