Network Vision/LTE - Tampa Market

I saw some workers up there about a week and a half ago.  They took down two legacy antennas and left the new antenna and RRUs as they have other sites that were updated.

Looking at Tampa permits - looks like the site at HCC (Permit: BLD-15-0439113) should be underway and the DAS at RayJay (Permit: BTR-15-0441423) has passed City inspection as of 8/18. Exciting to see NV1.0 finally edge ever closer to a close in Tampa!

Anyone notice that network.sprint.com is no longer up? You can't see upgrades any more on the Sprint site.

Mobilitie has filed for permits with the City of Tampa. Looks like the process started on May 31st and they have been going back and forth for a while. Tampa's permitting system is a little wonky, but very detailed.

Go here: https://aca.tampagov.net/citizenaccess/ and search for either Mobilitie or "ROW-16-0000643"

If you click 'Application Information Table' you'll get more detail to work locations and specific site plans are posted at the bottom of the page under 'Attachments.'

Exciting to see more small cell work underway in my hometown.

So has Mobilitie built any small cell at all in Tampa?

Not under their current agreement. Sprint did build some small cells in Channelside and around the Ice Palace/Forum/Amelie Arena for the 2012 GOP convention. I tried to get pictures of them once, but felt a little awkward.

Three new permits filed for adding B41 equipment to existing towers. Looks like things are moving again.

Search for them here: https://aca.tampagov.net/citizenaccess/

About time. Tampa is far behind Orlando and Miami in band 42 deployment and Jacksonville is really far behind.

I didn't realize Tampa was that far behind, the network seems pretty solid within the city core. The airport has improved, but could still use a DAS.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
