I had the Evo 4G LTE for like 2 weeks before the SGSIII launched. Did NOT like the way the filesystem was laid out, and other stuff. I'm happy I switched to the SGSIII. I just swapped my wife over to a 16GB White SGSIII, as her Blackberry 9670 had a blown speaker. She's happy (albeit with a learning curve).

 

SGSIII is the best android out there at the moment on Sprint.

Its also the best seller for sprint (where i work in wireless)

I'm waiting for some sort of update. I've had two EVO 4G LTE's and both freeze when loading the camera half the time, SMS and people app hangs for 30+ seconds on initial load, and Sense home does the 'Loading' thing every time I hit home. I have found many people with similar issues (except for the initial contact load). Hoping an update will fix it since the most recent ring tone patch didn't. evasa2e6.jpg

so does the SGSIII, but the Evo has 1G RAM, and the SGSIII has 2G RAM, and a lighter weight overlay (TouchWiz vs. Sense).

 

James wasn't too clear, if he meant ram on the phone or expandable memory.

 

BenJ: Looks like you got a bad batch, never had problems with contact loading or sms. Sense has a reloading home screen problem. Try Nova or apex launcher to get around that for now, until htc gets out sense 4.5

Good point.

 

Samsung did resolve the gps issues with the 3 (at least best i can tell) ... i find fault in my initial statement however since lte connectivity is a mute point in my city/ state for the majority of my upgrade cycle anyway. Either would have served me well while in ole dirty.

 

Pardon my thread hijack :(

 

Custom ROMs have completely fixed any GPS issues I've had on my phone. I have the Nexus S 4G which is a Galaxy S based device and a lot of people have ran into the same problems with it.

I've never had a single problem with my EVO LTE. When you live in an area where there is a tower every 1/4-1/2 mile, you don't have to worry about LTE connectivity, just when you'll be getting LTE.

And I went with the don't get burned by Samsung rule this time after the Epic4g GPS and radio train wreck.

 

That's why I avoid all phones except the iPhone:). Still have my 2007 iPhone working like a champ. Take it to overseas trips and have it on prepaid on AT&T.

Just saw over on DSLR a lot of boo-hooing over this press release. Also saw iansltx resonating some knowledge to the masses, unfortunately few things seem to have more inertia than ignorance. :wall:

I'll pass on any Apple product for many reason, you'd have to pay me to deal with that.

 

I've never had a single problem with my EVO LTE. When you live in an area where there is a tower every 1/4-1/2 mile, you don't have to worry about LTE connectivity, just when you'll be getting LTE.

 

Tower density does not have an affect on this issue.

It sucks KS is getting LTE just because Sprint is headquartered there. Sprint should make sure they are doing everything they can to bring California and other populated areas up to speed.

 

Tower envy? I suppose California has the biggest and thickest towers too?

As for the LTE connectivity issues on the EVO LTE, I think they have greatly improved from where it was in the begging. Although there is always room for improvement. My dad got the GS3 so I have yet to do side by side comparisons between the two. I have noticed my EVO LTE is better at detecting LTE when I move into a covered area. With all that said, as long as it isn't specifically a hardware issue, it should be resolved in future updates. If I remember right from AJ reported ERP wise the EVO LTE was not a "stellar RF performer" but I hope once more sites go online and with radio fixes from HTC/Sprint, it should work pretty well when LTE is fully deployed.

Of course, California has "the biggest and thickest towers," especially in the San Fernando Valley, where all the porn stars hang out. No one wants to get serviced by short, thin towers. That just does not sell.

How's that apple navigation map working for you? How about YouTube? Next on apple's list is netflix so that they can force you to pay for apple tv.

First of all, I did not upgrade to 6.0 so it does not affect me. I let the bleeding edge folk debug it for me. Second, Google Maps when first came online waylaid me plenty of times. Third, I actually paid for Navigon which happens to be the best navigation package period end of story. Fourth, if your still want Google Maps go to maps.google.com and then put a link in your homescreen. Problem solved. Fifth, the Google provided Youtube app is the one that sucks not the one that Apple removed which was Apple's Youtube app. Same with the old Maps. It was Apple's interface based on Google's data. Sixth, Apple has added a lot more channels including Hulu, NetFlix and Vimeo to their AppleTV product. They're not removing, they're adding. It's not Apple's problem that Netflix offers old and unknown movies.

Yep, kinda wished I would have waited.

 

Hell... I'll trade anyone straight up and I'll pay shipping if someone wants to trade a GS3 for an EVO LTE that's S-OFF and been in an otterbox 100% of the time.

Google has their own YouTube app for iPhone. So the YouTube app in iOS and Android is very similar.

I hated the youtube app on the iPhone ever since I got it. And personally don't think it will get better. I do like the android one better cause it doesn't freeze up on me as much when I'm on wifi and I like how that on android u can do HQ over the mobile network. While on the iPhone u have to be on wifi to get videos looking good, unless ur just listening to music or something. So what do u think I should get an iPhone 5 or evo lte or gs3. I'm still deciding I like the evo lte design but I'm not sure if I should get it cause when I go back to FL over the summer I'd like to use it as a LTE hotspot and its not gonna do me any good if I can't get it. Now where I live in Little Rock that's a different story cause its probably not going to get LTE until like spring of 2013 if lucky.

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
