Roaming with 4G

Recommended Posts

Yes, but if Sprint were at capacity... I would expect them to push them to another Sprint tower. I was just wondering if they had the means to technically hand them off to a roaming cell under these conditions. I know it would not be their choice, but if it were that or drop the call.... could they do it?

In most areas they would most likely attempt a handoff to a nearby Sprint tower. Or drop the call.

There is a mechanism by which cell edge users are handed off to roaming if voice carriers are under heavy load. It's not so much something done by the network as something fundamental to CDMA. The heavier the load on a voice carrier, the more effective cell size shrinks. It simply gets too noisy for handsets with weak signals to hold a working connection. This causes them to go to roaming.
