Network Vision/LTE - Milwaukee Market (including Madison)

I see that AT&T continues to press on, they just officially launched Lake Geneva and Whitewater for 4G LTE

They may have announced a launch, but Sensorly shows exactly zero coverage anywhere near Whitewater, and no real coverage in any of the area around Lake Geneva:

The Evil Empire seems to have some coverage in Delavan, but the very pale purple on the roads (like on US-12 and -14) does not indicate usable coverage.

[/Disclaimer: Sensorly, of course, only maps where mobile users tell it to, so in theory there may be coverage in places where no one has bothered to map.  Of course, if Sprint were to announce a market before there was any visible coverage in that market, the trolls and naysayers would have a howling field day! AT&T, on the other hand, gets away with lies and distortion constantly. (Oh, come on, TM65, say what you really think!) /EndDisclaimer]

While I will agree AT&T can throw around anything it wants, let's remember that Sprint says a smaller market is launched with 1-2 towers. (Like Baraboo)

We know that Sprint users are way more active on Sensorly than other carriers.

No, I'm not trying to be an AT&T defender.  I think some hoped Sprint would ramp up ahead of them.

28 updates (4 LTE) in the last two days for Milwaukee......where? I'm not seeing changes for our maps.

I think there are a few updates in the southern part of our area.  Looks like a ton of towers are 3G updated and some are marked 3G and 4G complete.

I'm guessing one of those updates is the Viking apartments on Oakland and Kane. Ping has been between 30 and 150 ms, as opposed to the usual ~900 ms. Data speeds are still abysmal, but progress is progress....

I have a feeling a tower near the far east side of Middleton will be 4g accepted soon, as my phone sporadically connects too lte in my apartment. I have wifi at home, but, I noticed I had lte when I drove into my parking lot last night! Now it's gone again.

That's what I'm wondering. I sure haven't noticed any improvements in service either, so the updates must not have been in my area.

If Sprint isn't working significantly better by the time my contract is up, I'm jumping ship. Data caps were never an issue for me before when I was on AT&T and unlimited data is really the only thing that'd keep me with Sprint now since their new plan pricing is more aligned to their competitors in terms of cost.

I give AT&T a pass on their slow (depending on where you're at) LTE rollout because their 3G and Faux G is significantly faster and more reliable than Sprint's data. I could easily stream YouTube videos on AT&T. Sometimes even checking email requires a long wait or doesn't work at all on Sprint where I work. Most of the speed test results I get are sad or don't even finish. I'd get better service if I carried a laptop around and plugged in to a phone jack and used AOL (and I very much remember the speeds and ping I got with that because I played Counter-Strike and used the internet with it in ye olde days).

I'm still opimistic though that we'll see improvements as the year goes on and I know there's a lot of obstacles and hoops that Sprint needs to navigate (permits, etc.) to get the work done, but it's just disappointing to be paying money (several hundred per year) for service I don't get and can't use. I know that weathering the storm will be worth it in the end, but the question is how long do we need to keep paying to weather the storm.

It. is. coming.  It's so close to being glorious. When complete, Sprint's network will be awesome.  Most of us have waiting it out for years upon years.  Are we suckers? perhaps, but the reward will be coming soon.  There are a lot of sites now in the Madison area that have antennas up but aren't on yet.  Just a few of those go live and we'd be covered in purple quickly.  Milwaukee is much the same.  There is work going on, we just don't always see it.  Don't lose faith now!!!  :)

Honestly, if they can get LTE to more areas in Madison for Badger game days and then more coverage around the mall so I could do Christmas shopping and not hang around the apple store if I need to look something up, my god, my god, I'll be very happy.  However, then we're all going to need something else to bitch about.....

Several of you are not sponsors, so you cannot view the Network Vision sites completed maps.  You really have no solid idea how slowly or quickly Network Vision deployment is progressing in your own market, let alone around the country.

As for discussions of switching to other wireless providers, that is walking a fine line.  S4GRU's mission is not to recruit users to Sprint, nor is it to encourage users to switch to other wireless providers.  No, S4GRU's mission is to educate about Network Vision.  But if you do not have sponsor level access, then you are missing out on much of that knowledge.

Regarding AT&T, be an informed consumer.  Know that this company cooperates with NSA wiretaps, fights Net Neutrality, supports anti competitive measures in the wireless industry, lobbies against public broadband deployment, and seeks to shutter its copper DSL network in favor of LTE to the home.  If you give AT&T money, you effectively support its anti social corporate agenda.

Ohhh I knowwww. Some days it doesn't bother me while on others it's particularly infuriating. I know the updated network is on its way. The running deployment list and acceptance updates are encouraging too. I feel pretty confident that Sprint will be looking much better around the new year, if not sooner. Fingers crossed!

In other words, be careful of you're complaints about sprints network on this site. My account on here was suspended without warning for almost two week's for venting my displeasure to my fellow Sprint user's in here.

As far as waiting for 4g is concerned, the area's that I most frequent are covered very nicely. It takes a fraction of a second to load an album on rahpsody. However, im not seeing much improvment

mr.phoneguy, if you are going to quote my post, please do not butcher it with an erratic edit and unenclosed tag.  I fixed it for you.

Yes, this is entirely correct.  S4GRU does not host complaints.  We have made that clear for well over a year now.  If you want to learn and ask questions, you are in just the right place.  But if you want to complain, take it elsewhere.

Are the sponsor maps showing every sprint tower? Im in the Edgerton area and was expecting there to be a tower closer to one of the business parks in the city where signal tends to be very strong but never see lte.

Yes, this map http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/4186-network-vision-site-map-minnesota-dakotas-milwaukee-and-north-wisconsin-markets/ shows every Sprint tower as of sometime in 2012.

Ok thanks, so a tower showing on that map but not the other must not have work scheduled for it yet.

Some work could be done on sites not showing up on the NV complete map.  The work just might not have been accepted by Sprint yet as complete. If you get a chance you should go check out the site in question, take pictures and report back what you find. If your pics show work being done or done, it can be mark as in progress on the NV complete map.

I was downtown for the Badger game yesterday and my phone was basically unusable by 9 a.m.  I could not even send text messages... although I should not be surprised given that it's been like this on Badger game days for as long as I can remember.  I really wish Sprint would beef up the service downtown and around the stadium by Regent street.

    • Was true in my market. Likely means a higher percentage of 5g phones in your market.
    • T-Mobile and EQT Announce Joint Venture to Acquire Lumos and Build Out the Un-carrier’s First Fiber Footprint https://www.t-mobile.com/news/business/t-mobile-eqt-jv-to-acquire-lumos
    • Unable to confirm if it's really off but I noticed this morning that I'm no longer connecting to Band 41 on my home site. Switching my phone to LTE-only pretty much always put me on Band 41 since it was the least used band on T-Mobile's network. Now I'm only able to connect to Band 2/66. Not complaining because it means speeds are faster on LTE and maybe 150MHz n41 is around the corner.

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
