Network Vision/LTE - Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands Market

Gab2012

Recommended Posts

It connected to 4G 4 different times during my trip back to work. That's good news for people in the metro area.

While i was at my apt it was switching between three different serving cells.

I think the site that I was connected to was the one near plaza guaynabo because my signal wasn't the best. I got another site less than half a mile.

It also mapped some in Expreso Las Americas near Ave Pinero (Centro Medico Area)

Upload it to any 3rd party site and post the link, or use the picture embed feature and enter the URL. And I just checked again and still only see 1 Voice Upgrade for St. Thomas.

Robert

Robert I hard reset my galaxy tab after taking the screen shot and can't seem to find it. It's so funny that now I really need it it can't be found.I am only seeing 1 voice upgrade now but when I took the shot it not only say 2 upgrade it also showed 2 towers on the map. Maybe was a glitch but I was trying to post it then. Gone now but was it there.

Check this morning and even the voice upgrade for St.Thomas was gone from the Sprint map.

They seem to be working on an update at the moment. Maybe something will pop up for the USVI when they are complete.

Robert quick question, once the PR market is 100% LTE complete does that mean we will always get an LTE signal no matter where we are located in PR?

Definitely not in all of PR, but you will have LTE everywhere you currently get 3G.

Last month I think I experienced some of the worst sprint service ever in St. thomas. I just got back to St. thomas a few days ago and I got to tell you that it is just as bad but all the issues are basically the same as what the PR guys where experiencing right before all the good news started popping up. Its somewhat difficult to get close enough to towers given their locations but I need to find away to get a closer look at those panels to see if any NV equipment have been installed. The great news is that the Virgin Islands are currently going through some major improvements as far as over all internet backhaul goes. As of a few months ago typical broadband was as fast as 1.5 to 3 megs(and that's on a very good day) for any isp provider on the island, as of the last few days I have been experiencing over 20 meg at my office so hopefully all this will be part of sprints strategy as far as backhaul for their lte service.

Good news guys. Your patience will be reward. Now I have LTE in home. I always get more than 3mb. This morning I make some test and gets 13mb, 9mb, 8mb, 7mb, 6mb, 5mb everything haha.

Very good test. I check and see two data upgrades of few antennas close to the area. One is close to Hato Tejas, if you go to Costco in Street Number 2 in Bayamón you will see LTE. And other is close to Toa Baja - Toa Alta border. Is excellent! Please guys, just wait, is a very good service and is UNLIMITED!!!!

My wife iPhone is force 3g sometimes, I always have 4g in home and she's not. Is rare!!! But she still believe that iPhone is the better piece of technology in human history haha. But Im super happy with the service.

Time ago I wrote that the 4g is appear and disappear for like a week. Be patience everyone these guys are testing and installing the equipment. Is awesome!! When you start to see problems and 4g up ad down give like three weeks and you will see. I talk for 3 to 4 hours in home and I never experience a drop call with the new antennas. But when Im travel from Toa Baja to Rio Piedras two days ago I got like SIX drops. They stilll working with that I guess but is very annoying!!

Ive had 4G by the costco also. You should try:

-Updating PRL

-toggling airplane mode

-If all else fails choose LTE only

Do what egonadrian said, those instruction can fix your problem.

In "Drive in Plaza", "Bayamón Oeste", "Plaza del Sol", you will find LTE working very good. "Río Hondo" is not working at 100% yet. But in Costco, when I make the test like two days ago is working fine. If you enter to "Tres Calles" and near those area LTE is available there. "Urbanización San Pedro (Toa Baja)" have LTE everywhere, and maybe "Madelaine" and some of the "Montecasino".

For "Estancias de la Fuente" I think you need to wait a little more. But soon!!! Sprint are working fast. Tons of upgrade in Toa Baja and Bayamón in the last month.

Sprint have the best customer service in the industry, unlimited and affordable plans (Compare to TMobile, Claro and AT&T), discounts for government employes and for private employees like those who works in Burger King, Sears etc. Roaming in Puerto Rico and US for data and voice, long distance, best visual voice mail, good cell phones (BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone 8, Galaxy S4 and next iPhone confirmed for this year), the ability to paid for Internet tethering start at $20 for 2gb (tmobile does not have this option in their unlimited data plan). If Sprint expand their LTE coverage to entire Island and solve the drop calls issue, theres no other better company to buy a cell phone. This is a not paid announcement hahaha. They need to subscribe more costumer because Sprint is the 5th company in Puerto Rico behind the 1st AT&T, 2nd Claro, 3rd T-mobile, 4th Open Mobile, 5th Sprint. Why? Because the junk network they have here. They suppose to be in the first three positions but they don't have good marketing either. This is gonna change!!! Sorry for the speech to all I just doing some free marketing (joking) IS TRUE!!

Are you sure you don't work for sprint?

No osva hahaha  . These guys need a little help!

jetta for sure they're working in the network. In my case I wait like two or three weeks to see the stable results in the area. If you see and use 4g time ago, and now you see anything two things can be happen 1st) they are working in the Network (for sure) or 2nd) Your cell phone need some care, hahaha :D (I go for the first one because the Galaxy S3 is good!!!)

In a new report. Yesterday the phone stock on 3g and Im sure I have 4g service in the area, so I solve the trouble turning on the airplane mode for few seconds and turn off and everything works fine again. Today I experience the same problem solve again with the airplane mode turn on turn off. Rare!!! right? and be aware of this! :tu:

At first I saw 1 voice upgrade then 1 data but now they are both gone. Hope a new update would look better than the last one.

The last time I checked I saw 1 voice upgrade but that was it, I really don't think it matters though.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
