Network Vision/LTE - New York City Market

Recommended Posts

Wow here in NYC we are on a blizzard warning. LTE will be delayed, no work will be done for the next few days :(

I really hope we just get 2inches & call it a day . Lmao for once I actually hope the weather is wrong .

March is looking like a reality here in NYC. Seems like another LTE tower came online in Flushing in Main street and Roosevelt Ave. Another in Williamsburg. Take a look at Sensorly... a lot of new dark purple.

My speeds in my home at 6:20 in the morning. In general, when my tower is at its heaviest use, I get around 1.6Mbps

Yeah there's definitely work going on in my area. A few minutes ago I couldn't even get a data connection, and now my phone is connected to what I assume is a NV tower, download speeds are around 0.70 Mbps and upload speeds just below 1 Mbps. Pings in the 90's & 100's. I didn't move an inch.

Whether they just flipped something on or I got kicked to a different tower, I hope stays.

The cell tower by my house that has NV upgrades has been down since 12.25.12 slow data . They hold me its a Single cell site outage. This will delay the LTE i guess

has anyone noticed significant improvements in 1X and 3G signal strength after NV or LTE upgrades nearby? I have bad reception in my apartment and relying on airave which goes out every now and then due to GPS outage on the machine.

And also, I see my phones network resetting ever now and then lately. Must be they're working on a nearby tower.

i see very good correlation between the sensorly map and the "2network speed upgrade" on sprint website as what has been stated from one of the user on this forum.

What is your LTE signal strength in dBm from your LTE Engineering screen? If you have a weak LTE signal, it may be impressive.

Even though Sprint doesn't have the best coverage in my area. I do have lots of memories and nostalgia with the company. I wonder who else here will miss Sprint besides me?

I'm new to this forum, and I've seen people mention cell sites with specific ID's (for example, SF33XC664). Is there any significance to these ID's, and is there a way to decode them? Also, how do I figure out what the cell site ID's are for towers near me?
Thanks! I'm excited to start talking on this site more 😀

Samsung Network Vision equipment are highly distinct and fairly easy to spot compared to the equipment that other vendors are deploying. Sprint is Samsung's first extremely massive American contract (baring Clearwire) so there  should be no issues in confusing these equipment for another carrier which happens often with Ericsson NV equipment.

Below are images of Samsung equipment which includes antennas, remote radio units, base stations, and their mounting configurations.

    • This is in fort bend county, they have the entire 196MHz there.
    • I know the guy who'll be doing drive testing for their Fastest Networks report in Austin, hence asking. What's funny is, when they do those tests, TMo will be at its nadir, while Sprint will be very much alive still in tons of places.
    • Honestly the past 2 - 3 weeks I have seen a big improvement in download speeds even during heavy foot traffic on the Sprint Tower at Fashion Square Mall in Ch’ville. This is the one I’m always connected to at my apartment up the street. Upload speeds still averaging 2.4-5.xx but download speeds use to be around 25 down during heavy foot traffic times and 30-40 download speeds when the load wasn’t so heavy. Where my apartment is I’m always connected to Band 41. I am impressed that the download speeds have made a big improvement lately.
    • I don't have a Sprint phone to check, but does this mean Sprint Small Cells are no longer operational? IIRC, 160 Mhz was all the EBS/BRS spectrum Sprint owned in Houston. (I remember reading they owned or had leases for the entire EBS/BRS Band, but I don't feel like searching the FCC site to verify this.) Not turning off the small cells using LTE UE Relay for backhaul (which is all of them AFAIK) could create issues if all Sprint owned in Houston was 160 Mhz.
    • T-Mobile offers roaming on their WCDMA/HSPA network for CDMA-less Verizon devices; the agreement is reciprocal. I believe LTE roaming on Verizon is restricted to only certain areas.
