GMO and GMR sites can have fiber. In my city we have 2 GMR sites but I have yet to ever see a GMO anywhere.

I'm safe. Sprint holding up well. 4.5 million without power. The eye of the storm coming straight for Marion county with 100mph winds. I hope I have a home to go to when this is over.

Yeah, I agree.

 

I'm happy with my iPhone 6s Plus and my wife's iPhone 6 Plus.

 

I need to sell my LG G3, but it has a cracked screen.

 

Anyway, yeah........ MOAR LITES! ;)

Typically ground mounted radios lets the carrier re-use the original panels, so GMO towers don't have the added benefits of the new panel equipment.  It's cheaper and in many cases easier to get up and running.  But they can still be fed any source of backhaul.  EvDo I believe is fed by ethernet backhaul.

You as well see that Sprint needs capacity here?  I don't believe the median RootMetrics speeds for this market for a second!

Lower frequencies require larger panels since it needs to broadcast different wavelengths.  This is why you see most of Verizon/AT&T panels being huge.  So yes, no 800 voice for that site unless new panels are added that support it.

I haven't been keeping up with the root metrics scores. What are they now for Jax?

 

I'm not having terrible data issues here, just that speeds seemed to have slowed considerably and B41 deployment has halted.

Okay I understand what you're saying now I will have to call Crown towers and see what the deal is with that Tower its co located though that's the thing

It says 8.3mbps for median speeds on the download for Jacksonville, but this was about 6 months ago.  The 1H 2016 should be posted any day now.

I just checked local permits. Looks like a ton of AT&T and Verizon b66 will be active in Jax soon.

So extra capacity for AT&T and Verizon?

I've been seeing a lot of AT&T work going on. I haven't seen any band 30 on my iPhone yet. In fact I don't know if the iPhone 6 supports band 30.

      I was in the zip codes of 33993 and 33991 today and did some speed tests on speedtest.net
      I got speeds of about .8 Mbps with peek rates of 1 Mbps. I tried to upload pictures but the uploader said files were to large but even though they were below the maximum file size

      I've been following the network.sprint.com site and just in the past year in South Florida there have been over 700+ upgrades to towers in my area (Miami/Fort Lauderdale) with another like 400+ planned! I've been taking screen grabs and adding them up. I know we are on the second tier LTE launch list but could they be doing the upgrades now? I mean I have noticed the speed on my 3G shoot up from unbearable to quite fast in the past 6 months or so. Also the speed of 3G on my new EVO LTE is about double+ of that on my OG EVO! So are these just a lot of 3G upgrades, normal maintenance, Network Vision or new LTE cabinets? When I choose other cities from the drop-down list they have a quarter of the updates that the towers in my area are getting except for say New York, lol. I've tried 4G LTE on my new EVO LTE with no luck. I remember that before the 4G Wimax launch down here in some areas I could get Wimax on one or two towers in certain locations so I thought they might test like last time. Thanks for any answers in advance.
