Network Vision/LTE - Jacksonville Market (including Gainesville/St. Augustine/Ocala)

Recommended Posts

GMO and GMR sites can have fiber. In my city we have 2 GMR sites but I have yet to ever see a GMO anywhere.

Been good man, how are you guys?

I've been lurking, just haven't posted anything in a while. Waiting on Sprint to finally start adding capacity in Jax. Soon

Waiting on capacity and waiting on new devices. Looks like innovation has hit a wall in smart phones.

My site is also a stealth site so that compounds it even more

Yeah, I agree.

I'm happy with my iPhone 6s Plus and my wife's iPhone 6 Plus.

I need to sell my LG G3, but it has a cracked screen.

Anyway, yeah........ MOAR LITES! ;)

Typically ground mounted radios lets the carrier re-use the original panels, so GMO towers don't have the added benefits of the new panel equipment.  It's cheaper and in many cases easier to get up and running.  But they can still be fed any source of backhaul.  EvDo I believe is fed by ethernet backhaul.

You as well see that Sprint needs capacity here?  I don't believe the median RootMetrics speeds for this market for a second!

Lower frequencies require larger panels since it needs to broadcast different wavelengths.  This is why you see most of Verizon/AT&T panels being huge.  So yes, no 800 voice for that site unless new panels are added that support it.

I haven't been keeping up with the root metrics scores. What are they now for Jax?

I'm not having terrible data issues here, just that speeds seemed to have slowed considerably and B41 deployment has halted.

Okay I understand what you're saying now I will have to call Crown towers and see what the deal is with that Tower its co located though that's the thing

It says 8.3mbps for median speeds on the download for Jacksonville, but this was about 6 months ago.  The 1H 2016 should be posted any day now.

I just checked local permits. Looks like a ton of AT&T and Verizon b66 will be active in Jax soon.

I've been seeing a lot of AT&T work going on. I haven't seen any band 30 on my iPhone yet. In fact I don't know if the iPhone 6 supports band 30.

Just checked.  No b30 on Iphone 6.  It is on the iPhone 6s, though.

Are there any Sprint sites with 41/25/26 with a total of 12 panels?

How many per sector? A "high capacity" site generally has two NV antennas plus one 8T8R antenna per sector.

I was in the zip codes of 33993 and 33991 today and did some speed tests on speedtest.net
I got speeds of about .8 Mbps with peek rates of 1 Mbps. I tried to upload pictures but the uploader said files were to large but even though they were below the maximum file size

      Hello,

I've been following the network.sprint.com site and just in the past year in South Florida there have been over 700+ upgrades to towers in my area (Miami/Fort Lauderdale) with another like 400+ planned! I've been taking screen grabs and adding them up. I know we are on the second tier LTE launch list but could they be doing the upgrades now? I mean I have noticed the speed on my 3G shoot up from unbearable to quite fast in the past 6 months or so. Also the speed of 3G on my new EVO LTE is about double+ of that on my OG EVO! So are these just a lot of 3G upgrades, normal maintenance, Network Vision or new LTE cabinets? When I choose other cities from the drop-down list they have a quarter of the updates that the towers in my area are getting except for say New York, lol. I've tried 4G LTE on my new EVO LTE with no luck. I remember that before the 4G Wimax launch down here in some areas I could get Wimax on one or two towers in certain locations so I thought they might test like last time. Thanks for any answers in advance.

    • Thanks for all the help! I called, left a voice message and sent them an email. Unfortunately it looks like they were pretty quick shipping since I already have a tracking number and an ETA of Monday. Hopefully you’re right and it hasn’t actually shipped yet. I am in Oklahoma, so that’s part of why the shipping is so quick to get here. I guess that could mean returns are faster too. So at least there’s that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
    • That stinks. My area LTE is still 10x10 I wonder if it's because I'm in a Columbia capital area? Mpls Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
    • Yes I did restart app. Also rebooted Moto and turned off other signal apps. No accent. Restarting app also was needed on LG V20 if you want to turn accent off (turn off setting then restart app needed). Thanks
    • Hey thanks!! 🍻 I already saw your report and have been looking into it, I'm trying to get another release pushed out this morning to give you guys another try at everything for me.. the Red Pocket SIM caught my eye as the only oddity, although SCP identifies it as T-Mobile so it should show a magenta line. Did you try restarting the app after enabling the option, just in case? (You shouldn't have to do this but who knows). I'm adding some extra logging that should show me some more details why this might be missing. Stay tuned.
    • Accent seems to work fine on my Sprint LG V20 using Android 8. I have not tested it yet switch to T-Mobile or AT&T or Verizon etc.  No accent on my Moto G7 Power Unlocked and rooted with Android 9 on T-Mobile network using Red Pocket sim. I assume accent is triggered by PLMN, but maybe by sim carrier? Diags and beer money sent for both so you can compare if needed.
