I was finally....FINALLY...starting to see signs of life yesterday. While at home I had been picking up LTE "ghost signals"....you know the ones that show up for a minute but disappear as soon as you try to do a speed test....after awhile they would stay longer and longer. Finally did speed tests that showed 3G speed. This morning 4G seems to be sticking and speed tests are consistent with LTE although on the lower end:

 

8.7/2.0

8.3/7.0

9.5/6.8

7.6/6.0

6.9/7.4

 

 

Have to assume they are just testing since the tower closest to my house wasn't on the Aug scheduled map. Very promising....not the fastest ive seen...but no one really needs 30megs down anyway....I can live with 6. :)

LTE is very signal strength dependent. What is your dBm reading in your LTE Engineering screen in your Debug menu? In Waco, those kind of speeds were usually associated with -110dBm RSRP readings.

Trying this again. Something definitely going on in Boston today.

 

First shot is standing in front of South Station.

 

Second is series if speed tests walking from South Station to corner of State and Congress.

 

Final shot is from corner if Broad and State (near Faneuil hall).

Just ran another test and got 10.0/2.6

 

RSRP = -98 dbm RSRQ = -9 db

Tx Pwr = 512 dbm

 

Band = -118 ????? I thought the band would be 25 for some reason.

From Boston, MA (Beacon Hill; inside building): Powered phone off and on, and had 4G for the first time when the device came back on. Only lasted a couple of minutes, now back to 3G.

 

It started out that way for me...then I was getting the 4G icon but with 3G speed....then the speed finally caught up with the icon. They might be running some tests where you are.

Just ran another test and got 10.0/2.6 RSRP = -98 dbm RSRQ = -9 db Tx Pwr = 512 dbm

 

Your Tx Pwr is an error, as 512 dBm is ~1.58 × 10^48 W. Even visible sunlight is not remotely close to that power level.

Yep...seems pretty quick to me. Is that indoors? Also...is that your 1x signal strength or your LTE engineering signal strength?

Outdoors. The signal strength is from the Settings/About/Network screen. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get into the degub mode on my 4GLTE.

That is a downside of loading alternative ROMs. Many strip out dialer codes and system utilities that the coders deem unnecessary.

I'm glad they didn't do that to my Evo Shift. Maybe they accidentally pulled it from that ROM.

I have at least two towers in Plano, TX that may be ready to move from the Ericsson OEM Schedule to live:

 

 

DA03XC096 and DA13XC615

 

I used netmapper to triangulate around the BaseID's which are all sequential, and interesting, in this area are all in the 10000 range , with BID's in the 9000 range just on 3g.

 

Example:

Best Speedtest for the night was off of DA03XC096 DL:34201/UL:9858

 

For what its worth below are the speedtests for each tower, and I'm attaching my google earth which I mashed up the Tower location , netmapper and speedtest results.

Notice as indicated in this thread, the netmapper 'squawk's' of each radio are all "Incorrect", but triangulate almost perfectly to the actual tower location.

 

Yellow pins are the speedtests I did.

There is one last complexity. BSIDs and their associated coordinates are squawked by the CDMA base stations, not LTE radios themselves. So Netmapper (and all similar apps) are only able to log the CDMA base stations detected while the phone has an LTE connection. These CDMA base stations may or may not be on the same tower where the concurrent LTE connection is coming from. There is no app that can map LTE towers directly. This is an inherent limitation of the Android telephony API that the apps use.

*FacePalm* Sorry guys, I didn't take that into consideration. When I go back to the schedule map, those referenced towers are NOT on the upgrade list, so it appears I posted a bunch of spurious results vis-a-vie LTE,

The BSIDs represent CDMA connections. LTE connections do not have BSIDs. Even while the phone has an LTE connection for data, is also will maintain some CDMA connection for voice.

 

The Android does detect LTE as the type of data connection, while also detecting the BSID of the concurrent CDMA connection. These unrelated values are made available in the Android API used by various thrird-party apps.

 

Several apps, apparently including Netmapper, conflate these two runrelated facts into a combined record or report that gives the erroneous impression that they know where the LTE connection is coming from. They do not. The LTE connection might be colocated on the same tower with the live CDMA connection, or it might be on a different tower altogether. This is even more likely today, when only a subset of the towers have LTE at all, but they all have CDMA.

I was able to connect to 4g LTE in Schaumburg, Il at the Jewel-Osco parking lot on Schaumburg & Barrington Rd last night at about 10:00 P.M. and had very fast up and down speeds. Went back to that same spot this afternoon, and the 4g LTE was off, so I'm assuming they're testing that cell tower. Still, I almost pissed myself when I saw how much faster Sprint's LTE is over their 3g!

Quick question, I'm deciding on whether to switch to sprint or not and this all depends on their 4g lte rollout. In my area I see numerous voice and data upgrades in the next 6 months to the cellsites on network.sprint.com. Does this mean LTE is being deployed here? or could it be just a normal update?

It's just normal "band-aid" updates. Iowa will not be getting LTE or Network Vision in the next 6 months. It is not part of the first or second rounds of Network Vision..

    • I posted this in the Nebraska Premier thread last week, but just wanted to share in this thread the progress that T-Mobile has made in filling in the great coverage gap known as Nebraska. Between late last year and this year, they have added 28 new expansion sites filling in the coverage hole, plus 11 Sprint site conversions in eastern Nebraska and far western Iowa. Notably, in the last month n41 coverage was added on over a dozen expansion sites in western Nebraska that were added to the network last year. For comparison, here is the very first map that I created in October of 2022 after we noted expansion sites outside of Sprint conversion in Lincoln and Omaha. It doesn't show any western parts of the state, but just know there was nothing besides roaming coverage and a little B12 coverage leaking down from South Dakota to the west of Valentine, NE.
    • Sent a copy of my DB in an e-mail just now.  Couldn't leave the house today but can hopefully get a screenshot when I'm out on another cell site tomorrow.
    • 76MB Google Play System update after that, bringing the date up to 3/1 from prior 2/1 date. 
    • April security patch is already out - 738.30 MB download.
