Network Vision/LTE - Pittsburgh Market

Keep in mind that the Pittsburgh market has a pretty far reach and there is at least one 4G LTE site on the air in Pittsburgh. I can't volunteer the location and you'll never see it with a commercial PRL anyways.

I thought the PRL only dictated 1X/EVDO connection scans...? And the SIM controlled LTE connections?

That very well could be the case, I've spent too much time dealing with the construction side of things with this new equipment to actually sit down and soak in some LTE theory.

In any case, they do have a way to 'hide' it from the general public until testing is completed.

Nope. The PRL very well controls it along with other pieces that make up the final PRL the chipset builds.

It just doesn't control it the way it does for CDMA.

A testing site can be modified from the standard 310-120 and your phone would never find it.

Any specific areas that you can name? I haven't seen anywhere that is considerable faster. ie downtown, waterfront, squirrel hill, southside, West Mifflin, Clairton, or north Shore.

i can tell you most of the area is running ehrpd and i do think that is one of the first steps in nv

New member here. I pulled into work in Moon township Pa and when I looked down I almost fell over, 4g was on.

3.31 down 2.81 up. I'm in my office now and back on 3g. I'll update when I go back out at lunch.

Same here! Work right next to the airport. Pulled in and saw 4g and about crapped my pants... seeing as we're not even on the official list for LTE yet. Pulled 6mb down and 3.3mb up. I work on the top floor (5th) right next to the window and the LTE has been pretty steady inside.

I just turn on GPS and go to "Map Trip" and let it collect data points!

Thanks. I've done that and have collected 534 measurements however I dont see it on the map yet.

Hopefully soon.

This is great news! But why wouldn't Sprint announce it? I'm sure people have left Sprint because of the absence of an LTE implementation schedule in Pittsburgh? I, for one, considered going back to Verizon in May when my contract is up because of it.

Because there is not enough coverage to cover the whole city and Sprint has just started work in the market so each week more and more sites will be coming online. If Sprint where to say Pittsburgh had LTE now people would complain that theres not enough coverage, so Sprint, once accepted will leave the site on for people to use it instead of waiting a couple of months to launch the whole market.

There isn't even a date for Pittsburgh. If LTE construction has started, there must be a targeted completion date. http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/212-network-visionlte-deployment-running-list/ lists the markets and what round they are in for every major city in the US except Pittsburgh (and Denver). The % completion and estimated completion dates for the markets on this page are periodically updated. Pittsburgh is not even on the horizon!

That list is not a complete list of all markets eather as it says in small print above all the markets. Also Sprint will not always state that they are going to start a market. Prime example is Detroit, they are in active deployment, but they have not announced it. It's all just a marketing scheme. If I where you I'd be happy they have started there as some markets have not been heard of at all yet.Patience is virtue.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the map to reflect 4G we measured? I dont see the measurements from earlier today.

Thanks

check to see if it uploaded on the details screen

Sensory can take a while to update all layers.

Thanks guys. Hopefully this keeps building. Would love to see wider coverage.

I see it now on the very zoomed out layers. Still hasn't been updated on the more zoomed in ones. You'll notice this is how Sensorly functions alot of times. It seems at points they have way too much data to process and fall behind and it takes between 24-48 hours to update all the way through.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
