I think I've gotten my first taste of NV.

Recommended Posts

This week I'm attending a conference at a hotel in the National Harbor area outside of DC. I've been seeing 3g speeds I've never seen before on sprint. Here are three speedtest results from yesterday:

1873kbps/578kbps

447kbps/450kbps*

1932kbps/580kbps

2393kbps/583kbps

And from this morning:

1722kbps/720kbps

According to the DC market map there is a tower in this area, however it is not yet on the completed sites map. Maybe it will show up in the next round of updates Robert gets.

*-I received a text message during test which seemed to throw the test off.

Sprint says one of the towers in my area will be getting some upgrades on June 14.

Do you have the ability to check and let me know what kind of work is being performed?

That's great news.

A text message will throw off 3G speed tests because your device will switch to 1x for a few moments for the text message then revert back to EVDO.

Lots of times sites will be active in advance of showing up on our maps. Sometimes even by weeks. I don't get the site report until Sprint accepts the site from the OEM. Sometimes they refuse to accept the site for some reason. When this occurs, the site is still active, but not reported on-air. It stays this way until the OEM corrects whatever Sprint complained about. Once Sprint accepts the site, it shows up on the list and then I report it on the NV Sites Complete map.

Robert can you tell what's scheduled to be done on these sites in the near future NY60XC155, NY05XC315

Sprint tells me upgrades are to be performed on June 14. I can't even complete a speed test when in the vicinity of these towers.

Thanks.

Furthermore greg, if you have noticed an HUGE increase in dropped calls, data not working right (which it sounds like you have) thats usually a sign that upgrades are currently being done in your area. These conditions will last about 2 weeks or until upgrades are completed in your area.

Thanks for the link but it would be a travesty for me to be on these forums on not know what NV is LOL

I was hoping you had info on schedules other than what's posted in the Sponsor forums.

Thanks anyway!

I get all my information here. The only upgrades that are not going to be NV are ones that are done in non major metros.

Ha ha. Yup, that's how I figured out there was a tower nearby. In fact it may be on top of the hotel where my conference is.

Edit: this forum runner app will take getting used to. I thought I was quoting a post from aerxx.

I am on the road for work this week and cannot look up specific sites for members. I may be able to this weekend if I come back across the thread.

From the maps in the Premier Sponsors forum, work for NY60XC155 started a few days ago and NY05XC315 is scheduled to start in a couple weeks. Scheuduled to be online in the mid to late July timeframe, assuming the schedule there still holds.

Anyway to know if the work is 4G LTE installation or 3G maintenance?

The maps on this Site are NV only. Not related to Sprint's 3G maintenance. You would have to go to the network.sprint.com site for that info.

That all depends though on when Sprint announces the NY market as live, even if the towers are live. As has been reported here for other towers/markets, LTE is live on many sites but at this point Sprint is blocking LTE for customers. Until they open it up, the site might be live but not accepting LTE connections.

I had Wimax way before it was officially announced in my market, hopefully it plays out the same way.

    • Since this is kind of the general chat thread, I have to share this humorous story (at least it is to me): Since around February/March of this year, my S22U has been an absolute pain to charge. USB-C cables would immediately fall out and it progressively got worse and worse until it often took me a number of minutes to get the angle of the cable juuuussst right to get charging to occur at all (not exaggerating). The connection was so weak that even walking heavily could cause the cable to disconnect. I tried cleaning out the port with a stable, a paperclip, etc. Some dust/lint/dirt came out but the connection didn't improve one bit. Needless to say, this was a MONSTER headache and had me hating this phone. I just didn't have the finances right now for a replacement.  Which brings us to the night before last. I am angry as hell because I had spent five minutes trying to get this phone to charge and failed. I am looking in the port and I notice it doesn't look right. The walls look rough and, using a staple, the back and walls feel REALLY rough and very hard. I get some lint/dust out with the staple and it improves charging in the sense I can get it to charge but it doesn't remove any of the hard stuff. It's late and it's charging, so that's enough for now. I decide it's time to see if that hard stuff is part of the connector or not. More aggressive methods are needed! I work in a biochem lab and we have a lot of different sizes of disposable needles available. So, yesterday morning, while in the lab I grab a few different sizes of needles between 26AWG and 31 AWG. When I got home, I got to work and start probing the connector with the 26 AWG and 31 AWG needle. The stuff feels extremely hard, almost like it was part of the connector, but a bit does break off. Under examination of the bit, it's almost sandy with dust/lint embedded in it. It's not part of the connector but instead some sort of rock-hard crap! That's when I remember that I had done some rock hounding at the end of last year and in January. This involved lots of digging in very sandy/dusty soils; soils which bare more than a passing resemblance to the crap in the connector. We have our answer, this debris is basically compacted/cemented rock dust. Over time, moisture in the area combined with the compression from inserting the USB-C connector had turned it into cement. I start going nuts chiseling away at it with the 26 AWG needle. After about 5-10 minutes of constant chiseling and scraping with the 26AWG and 31AWG needles, I see the first signs of metal at the back of the connector. So it is metal around the outsides! Another 5 minutes of work and I have scraped away pretty much all of the crap in the connector. A few finishing passes with the 31AWG needle, a blast of compressed air, and it is time to see if this helped any. I plug my regular USB-C cable and holy crap it clicks into place; it hasn't done that since February! I pick up the phone and the cable has actually latched! The connector works pretty much like it did over a year ago, it's almost like having a brand new phone!
    • That's odd, they are usually almost lock step with TMO. I forgot to mention this also includes the September Security Update.
    • 417.55 MB September security update just downloaded here for S24+ unlocked   Edit:  after Sept security update install, checked and found a 13MB GP System update as well.  Still showing August 1st there however.
    • T-Mobile is selling the rest of the 3.45GHz spectrum to Columbia Capital.
    • Still nothing for my AT&T and Visible phones.
