Since I am in San Diego, could I get the update eventhough not a launched market.

Do not grab the update if you use Calling Plus and are not in one of the launch markets.

My unlocked Essential Phone did a profile/SIM card update when I restarted just now, and I'm not sure if it did before, but it has the toggle for enhanced 4G LTE mode (VoLTE). I'm not in a soft-launch market so I'm unable to confirm whether or not it's enabled. Theoretically the IMS app on the SIM card is the only thing needed if the phone's firmware supports VoLTE.

I got the "Welcome To VoLTE" screen too but I am in Raleigh which is not listed as a VoLTE market.

So maybe everybody everywhere gets that screen if they click the toggle to turn it on.

I assume T-Mobile roaming has been enabled in all of these markets???

Just updated one of our lines which has an S8+.

When I move the toggle to enable VoLTE, I get a message that VoLTE is not available at this time. I’m in Bethesda, Maryland just outside of Washington, DC... which I figured would be considered part of the Washington, DC market.

☹️

EDIT: Just tried it again... now it works! Very cool!

That would be my assumption as well, and it is in the LA market, but I was in the South Bay last week and it was not enabled, so I'm not sure what's going on or what the delay is.

That toggle has been there since launch. Not sure what it's for in relation to Sprint.

How is VoLTE different than what I have under Calling Plus on my S9 Plus?

QOS and other backend work though the most important is the QOS part.

Calling Plus is just VOIP over Data and quality is hugely affected by the data connection whereas with VoLTE the connection is the highest priority which massively increases quality and reliability.

VoLTE is live in the Missouri Market. Updated my wife's phone and it connected. Can't verify the quality as I haven't used it. Hoping it comes to the LG G7 soon

Does anyone know if the unlocked version of the S8+ works with VoLTE?

I heard from my contact that VoLTE will work with unlocked S8 so I'm assuming the S8+ is in the same boat but it will become "live" with the release Android Pie release and upgrade. No timeline given but at least something to nibble on in the meantime!

S8/8+ SE's (unlocked from Samsung) are capable.

I'm in Denver (Longmont Hampton Inn) area and woke up this morning (10/12) to have my VoLTE on my S8. I'm not sure if it is only the site serving this area because I've not roamed outside of my hotel room yet but wanted to alert fellow Denver market members on here!

I also was told from my contact that VoLTE will be available for the S9 series next! Woohoo!

Finally! Does your contact happen to know when it will get it?

No timeline given but they're working diligently on it. This is a total guess is soon. When I asked him about the S8 then it was about a month later the soft launch occurred. This it total speculation but I'm guessing the S8 was the biggest hurdle to jump over and now bringing on additional devices is a bit simpler maybe? This is pure speculation and guessing from my end. He had to help during his vacation time to get the initial VoLTE deployed so they're working hard. A lot of it is they're doing simultaneous things while deploying VoLTE so a lot of moving parts to coordinate.

S8 was selected as it was the test device with the largest concentration of users.

S9 is newer and was not as widely adopted so it was on the backburner.
