  1. I don't.

There may be some unexplained artifact or anomaly on the GS3 that you have experienced and I cannot replicate. But whatever that is, I do not believe it is caused by "the radio" changing the received signal strength at the antenna.

I just sat and watched my phone for a half hour. I set the screen timeout to a half hour and watched the signal the whole time. It bounced around varying about +- 6dBm from the average. Then when the screen hit the 30 minute mark and timed out, I unlocked it and started a data session. Then after a minute or so of using data, I checked the signal and it was on the bad side of the average signal from the half hour.

I was not able to replicate it either...

  2. In my experience, the St Cloud Sprint store employees are friendly and helpful, but lack actual knowledge about the network and future plans. They tried to talk me out of buying the HTC Hero before the OG EVO was released because "4G was coming 'any day." It is now almost 3 years later... still no 4G.

They seem to be very good at everything else. I think they just buy in to rumors. I don't think they are misleading customers maliciously.

  3. Do you have a time range of when LTE will be finished in Minneapolis?? And on sprints website under network.sprint.com there are capacity upgrades on some of the towers will those have LTE to

It is too early to make an accurate estimation. We were given a schedule from an internal source, but the dates are not matching up with what is actually happening, so any guess would be just that, a guess.

What we have determined is that some data speed upgrades on that network.sprint site are LTE, but capacity upgrades are usually just adding more carriers to 3G or voice. Nearly every sprint site nationwide is being upgraded, and will receive LTE, it is something like 99 percent. A large majority (about 80%) will also see future upgrades with LTE 800mhz being added. The reason for less 800mhz sites, is that when there are densely packed cell sites, the increased range would cause interference if they all received 800 LTE. The consumer shouldn't see any holes in 800 LTE even though it is not on "every site"

  4. This is the one I use. I love it. My wife uses the same one for her Kindle too.

I bought this one before I got the N7 http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimbook-Leather-Android-Function/dp/B008IEGSGU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1358130606&sr=8-3&keywords=poetic+nexus+7 I like it, but then again I only paid $7. I planned on getting an official one once they were back in stock, but I liked this one so much, I stuck with it.

  5. NavFree is an offline navigator. I have never used it though. Google maps will allow you to cache an area allowing for offline navigation, but you have to tell it to cache the area ahead of time and it only saves it for a little while.

  6. This is currently an annoyance, and it's a shame they didn't require OEMs to include Band 4 earlier.

Would a MetroPCS LTE handset attach to Verizon's Band 4 LTE (once deployed) or they're using a different authentication method?

I could have sworn I saw that the Droid DNA and Nokia 822 also supported AWS LTE, but I can not find anything to back it up now. Maybe I am misremembering...

  7. Verizon's LTE rollout is more like Sprint's WiMax rollout (except that they are not contracting it from someone else) they are essentially deploying another separate network. In contrast, Sprint is updating the equipment on nearly every site, adding LTE and modernizing EV-DO and 1xRTT. As far as Nextel and WiMax, they are converting a few nextel sites but nextel sites were not usable for "sprint" customers anyway, so how does that have any bearing on this. WiMax speculation is just that, speculation, so that has zero bearing on the discussion.

Edit: AJ beat me to it...

  8. I have yet to hit an area with the blazing speeds that others report. this area has not officially launched yet so I am hoping that it is still in the testing phase. would love to consistently pull 10 down and 3 up.

Once more sites come online, the downtilt will be adjusted. The combination of more sites and better downtilt will result in stronger signal and faster speeds.

Just my theory based on user experiences in more developed markets.

  9. So just a quick question, I pick up a 4g signal all over West Springfield ,Agawam ,Westfield ,most of Holyoke and downtown Springfield as well as the hungry hill neighborhood and east springfield neighborhood. But my speeds are nowhere close to what I see being reported for other areas. I am barely getting 10Mb down and 2 up, averaging 1.5 down .9 up. Speed test says LTE but is this for real, my brother gets these speeds on VZ 3g.My 3g has improved greatly to the point of matching the supposed LTE. Is the best I can expect or is this still in the testing phase.

You likely have a weak signal. LTE speeds are highly dependent on signal strength.

  10. T-Mobile is really making a mistake on this. They may potentially miss out on some iPhone Business as a result.

I'm sure they will finance them, just not "subsidize" them. That is how they handle the rest of their phones on the value plan. You pay a down payment and then finance the remainer of the phone price with your monthly bill. Or you can pay for the whole shebang up front...
