Just wanted to point out Sprint solved the signal drop / hand-off issue with an update pushed 1/4. Hooray!

FYI: there is an increasing number of people on the Pixel forum reporting the exact issue I'm experiencing—complete loss of signal, seemingly when handing off between towers. To recap:

I noticed it most while on a fast-moving train, and moving through NYC -- both situations where I would expect frequent handoffs. I haven't seen it nearly as much when I'm stable. Thanks for the data point.

Has anyone noticed their device dropping from a perfect LTE signal to no signal, momentarily, then returning to full signal? This has occurred for me since I got the device (regular Pixel). This happens many times a day during active usage in multiple major markets. Not sure if it's just a software bug, maybe related to this one, which will be patched soon, a Sprint network problem, a tower hand-off issue, a SIM card problem, or a device problem. If the last of those, I want to RMA quickly. Thoughts? Thanks!

This was my experience as well. I also used a universal SIM (I had to call four stores before I found one with it in stock). The Sprint website recognized the device as a Pixel (regular) immediately upon entering the IMEI/MEID. Very smooth transition, including Sprint Google Voice integration.

(I will grant I'm assuming your preorder led to the standard shipping date.) Preorders are charged as they ship. The date of the first official price drop was January 12, 2016. The price drop was $30. The number of days between those two dates is 85. For a person to have received a credit, his or her protection plan must have been at least 85 days. Anything less was insufficient. Some plans last 60 days (see the Citi plan referenced above). Some last 90 (see this Discover plan: https://www.discover.com/credit-cards/member-benefits/price-protection.html?icmpgn=publichelpcenter). Even if a protection plan lasted 90 days, the credit should have been $30. ∴ Anyone planning to take the advice to rely on a price protection plan when placing a preorder shipping 10/20 should be aware that, if there is a price drop which follows previous patterns (already unlikely given the upmarket shift), a 60 day plan is unlikely to help. Even a 90 day plan historically would have only returned you $30.

The key question, not answered in what you wrote, is the duration of your price protection policy. For instance, Citi Price Rewind works for 60 days. You'll be charged as the phone ships--around 10/20. That means you'll only get a credit with that policy if a price drop occurs by December 19, 2016. Last year's price drop occurred around 1/12/16, so it would be outside the rewind range if the charge occured on the same date last year. (Why you got a credit when the price drop didn't occur until January is a bit of a mystery).

Right. I was just pointing out a few of them. Most didn't come in the box with Nexus devices.

Some prior Nexus phones came down, but usually not by much at first, and probably outside the range of any price protection periods. And now that Google is switching to a premium pricing model, who knows if they'll do discounts again.

Black 32 on the way. It's pretty much everything I've been asking for from Google for some time. The fact that we knew every spec from leaks made the announcement slightly less exciting, but still exactly what I wanted. The only fun things we didn't know in advance: - There is an RGB notification light. - A ton of wires and accessories (OTG dongle?) come in the box. - Free Daydream (maybe can sell for like $50 and recoup some of the price...). - The supposed extent of the improvements to the camera.

These leakers are traditionally very on point, so I don't there's much left to see. The only surprise which could help justify the price is a commitment to something like 5 years of updates. If you charge prices identical to the iPhones, you should support the products at least as long.

$650 starting price for the cheapest, I'd wager. I'll still probably do it, but not thrilled. Live stream:
