  1. This thread just came to my attention and I think I have some to contribute. Here's a list of Sprint DL EARFCN with city and state. There's a few EARFCN and cities not in your list yet. +------+--------+--------------+------------+--------+-------------------+---------------+ | band | earfcn | dl freq | ul freq | name | city | users have enabled. And, we're able to extract EARFCN from many devices. (Disclaimer: I'm the developer of LTE Discovery app along with SpenceSouth). This data is what has been gathered in the past week.
  2. @belusnecropolis, can you please send us a debug email from the app with more details? By default, all the LTE Discovery settings should be off, and none of the Android settings should be changing.
  3. New release: LTE Discovery v4.0.3 First, let me highlight the major new features and screenshot: - Signal Overlay: Current network and signal strength displayed anywhere/everywhere! (experimental, minimal for now) - Crowdsource: So much to say, so there has been a "Learn more" option added to the app Settings->Crowdsource - The much requested: signal strength in the LTE Logs - Large restructure of major features and settings. Notifications and things are more unified and streamlined now - In the app Settings->Live Mode, there is a new non-root radio cycle method for Lollipop and above devices (experimental, doesn't work on all devices, works on Nexus 4 Android 5.0 so far..) This version contains many large internal updates to the LTE Discovery code base, as well, so that it should be more robust on more devices. These improvements include performance optimizations. LTE Discovery has many hidden features to discover to get the most out usage out of it. To help alleviate this (a little bit), we've changed the "Recent updates" prompt to a quick "Tip of the Day" instead. These will contain the tips that have been most useful for people learning about the app and those that reach out to us. We hope people don't get too overwhelmed when they see the many advanced features, so we recommend one to get started easily. Currently, there are only seven tips and by default will only ever show once. The other 30+ tips we've shared in the past did not make the cut. Known issues: - Some devices must enter the settings before the master switch can be toggled. Active development: - Advanced features for users built on top of the sent signal data - Complete re-write of the widgets feature for more options (but will be superseded by the the Signal Overlay feature?) - And, maybe some other surprises In this newest release, now that all the major features have been unified, if any of them are on, then they will all be contained to a single notification. Very visible toggle buttons have been added to the Settings for most features. And, a single swipe of the app from the "multitask"/"recent apps" will stop all background processes and exit.
  4. @Jeff68005, sorry for the delay. Interesting, I was pretty sure that "Export" feature mentioned the location of the exported file, but I can now also see that it doesn't. The exported location is <device-external-storage-directory>/LteDiscovery/lte_logs_... Thank you for bringing this to our attention, I'll make sure to update the app so that it is more clear. Internally, all the LTE logs will be stored in the same database, but the next time you export, you can choose to export all or export just the new logs. We've already been rolling out our newest update for users. Currently a lucky 1% have it.
  5. Currently, there are two different databases for logs located on the device: One for LTE that you can see on the LTE Log page, and one for 1x that you can see on the Map page. And, yes, the text data listed on the LTE Log page is exportable and you can do just about any analysis you would like on it. Though, we are actively working on a better feature for this too. In the future, we will likely allow users to optionally send us their logs automatically so that we can make a nice map with more details than other signal mapping apps, but for now that feature isn't available. Spence (the other developer) is the main one working on this particular feature and eventually, he's going to be asking for a lot of Sprint volunteers to see if they would like to get an early beta preview. In my opinion, it's unfortunate that there are some apps with an "Exit" option in the menu. There are already three great options for Android users to exit the app (back, home, multi-task). If an app needs another "Exit" button in-app, then it could be an indicator that the app could be designed better. Hmm, as I think about it more now, perhaps you are talking about the "Live Mode" feature on the Discover page? That, in fact, needs to be designed better. I'm thinking it needs to be moved out from there because the other three options have to deal with radio cycling and that one doesn't, and could be independent of the others. There are likely more things we also need to improve. So, thank you for the suggestion and we absolutely welcome much more.
  6. Thanks Mike, for answering that. It feels like there are some posts missing from this thread, as we've updated the app quite a few times (currently v3.19 for public). Hi Jeff, thank you for your support! Currently, there are no broad instructions for all the features in the app. But, you can interact with most things that you see in LTE Discovery. For example, some info cards on the Signals page have another hidden feature when clicked or long-clicked. Try long-clicking the LTE card . Oh, and in most places we have added further information because many people have asked about the many different features. For example, on the Signals page most of the "cards" have a menu button on them with the option to "Learn more". If you have any questions, I'd be happy to clarify. Another set of in-app help that we need to make prominent is the question mark button on the Discover page. It contains more information about each of the "cycle modes", and changes info depending on which one is selected. Here's a quick preview of something we have been working on: As for the Pro upgrade, it just "unlocks" the Pro features. So now you have access to: - More settings options - The "Cycle only when not connected to LTE" option on Discover page - The "back" of the EARFCN card for more frequency and band-related items (just click the card) - An extra card called "LTE Band/Site Log" - Homescreen widgets (which we plan on entirely rewriting that code to make better) - On the Map page, Pro users also have more menu options for another mapping feature - On the LTE Log page, Pro users have more menu options Danial Co-Developer for LTE Discovery
  7. New Release: LTE Discovery v3.12 The main reason for this quick release is that we wanted to make sure everybody is adequately aware that Google has really stepped up their security/restrictions in Android Lollipop. This includes apps' ability to toggle airplane mode and cell radio. Many apps have been broken because of Google's changes. But, at least if you have root on Lollipop, then radio cycling is still possible. We'll continue to look for non-root workarounds, but at this time it doesn't look possible anymore. Google tried to block apps from toggle the radios back in Android 4.2. So, we have been fortunately to at least have it this long. Other Updates: - New feature: Alerts for 8T8R (Pro) - New feature: Alerts for LTE GCI (tower/area/sector) changes (Pro) - New feature: Ability to change alert delay time - New feature: "Pause LTE Mode on Wi-Fi" (Pro) - Location card fixes Sidenote: Finals for school are coming up very soon, so Spence and I will be having even less time to be working on LTE Discovery in the meantime. But, we do still have a very long list of great new features to add!
  8. Here's a sneak peek what it looked like in our developer console recently when we added more compatibility! ;0
  9. New version of LTE Discovery released! v3.11.2 Wow, it's been about two months since Spence and I last released to LTE Discovery to 100% of the public. In that time we have still been making lots of improvements, so the recent updates prompt is going to be long for those of you that still have v3.8.1. Here's some of the highlight changes from v3.8.1 (which 80% of users have): - More accuracy for many devices - Brand new alerts system (beta setting, with even more coming soon) - Ability to start on boot (Pro) - Added reset connection button to the "Live Mode" notification when not on LTE (Pro) - Lots of performance enhancements, especially for users with many logs - Greater compatibility for 2767 more devices - And more - Danial Goodwin - One of the developers for LTE Discovery
  10. Yeah.. and here's the latest weirdest bug we've found and fixed. TelephonyManager.getAllCellInfo() is supposed to be available for all Android API 17+, but a Samsung device with API 18 didn't have that method, nor most of the usual methods that are supposed to be in TelephonyManager (checked via Reflection).
  11. Great find! CSV files are really just text files and can usually be opened by any text editor. To attach it, you may be able to just change the extension to ".txt" and the file will still easily be human-readable.
  12. Yes, Trip, information directly from the engineering screen is very useful, thank you. One interesting note is how the PLMN ID in the engineering screen cuts off the trailing zero, I've only seen leading zeros cut off before this. There are about five different ways via public Android API methods to get the PLMN ID, and at least three different ways of getting all of the other signal info. And, at certain times/conditions, each of the different methods may be more accurate than the others. In the next version of LTE Discovery, the debug emails will include all of the different values from the different methods so that we can compare them all across devices (feel free to also cc Mike, if he doesn't already have it in his diagnostics ). By combining all the different methods in different ways, internal testing has already found this to be slightly more accurate than just using a single method throughout. - Danial - Developer of LTE Discovery, along with Spence (SpenceSouth)
  13. Yes, the single antenna was the cause of the problem. Thank you very much for bring this to our attention. This issue has now been fixed for the next release of LTE Discovery (available in a few hours).
  14. When you get your Nexus 5, you can drastically speed up your apps with Android's new virtual machine in 4.4. They are calling it Android Runtime (ART) and it's replacing the old Dalvik runtime. Summary: Go to Settings->Developer options to change runtimes. With ART, apps may be up to twice as fast because it uses the Ahead-Of-Time (AOT) compiler rather than Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler. More info: http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11/06/meet-art-part-1-the-new-super-fast-android-runtime-google-has-been-working-on-in-secret-for-over-2-years-debuts-in-kitkat/
  15. Excellent! It's great to hear that because it's hard to test it in an area without the 800. Also, because of the recent posts in this thread. We will be updating the information for the towers so that users will know that they aren't always accurate to the defined area currently in the app. We also have a few future plans for making the reported tower location more accurate.
