  4. Essentially a sprint exclusive.

I posted the below on the essential subreddit. Wonder if others on sprint have the same issue? "It is well noted that the essential has reception / radio problems but today, when I roamed on to US Cellular, it completely abandoned 1x and connected to LTE only. Which is fine when connected to Sprint because the phone can pass text messages over LTE. However, while roaming, the phone would not send or receive text messages and could not make or receive calls because it was latched to USCC LTE and needs a 1x connection to do this. My 5X (and I assume every other phone), when it connected to USCC LTE, would somehow get notification of a text or call and idle back over to 1x to take care of things and then dump the 1x connection until needed again (signal check shows all of this happening). Same deal when I would try to send a text as well. Seems the essential is dead in the water under these conditions and just can not bring it self to go to 1x when needed while roaming, at least on USCC. I do not have other roaming carriers up here to test with. I am sure we do not need to go into the problems with being completely unable to make a phone call in the very large areas that Sprint uses USCC to roam on. I can accept if it was just the area I was in. So in that case, any other Sprint users roamed on USCC LTE without any voice or text problems recently? I am on Oreo Beta for what its worth."

Essential's reception to the reception issues was not very receptive because their reception at the time was poor and they did not receive full receipt of the reception issues. AJ

  12. I need some technical terms so I can raise an issue with the Essential Phone team. It is well noted that the essential has reception problems but today, when I roamed on to US Cellular, it completely abandoned 1x and connected to LTE only. Which is fine when connected to Sprint because the phone can pass text messages over LTE. Howevever, while roaming, the phone would not send or receive text messages and could not make or receive calls because it was latched to USCC LTE. My 5X, when it would stay connected to USCC LTE, would somehow get notification of a text or call and idle back over to 1x to take care of things. Same deal when I would try to send a text as well. Seems the essential is dead in the water under these conditions. What may be happening here? Anything I could mention to essential about how sprint handles this so maybe they could pin the problem down?

Which Sling package did you get? Since I discovered that the YouTube TV package doesn't include Turner (CNN, TBS, TNT etc..) I have had to rule it out for now. Trying to decide between Hulu TV or Sling now.
  14. LG G6 to be Sprint's first HPUE-capable device

My texts always got split or were out of order, even on devices that were sending over LTE. The speed at which I was getting texts would suggest to me that they were still being sent over LTE rather than 1x. This is on the G6 though. Now that we have Calling Plus, texts definitely appear to be going over WiFi or LTE rather than 1x.

They arent very receptive to the...reception issues though so I am not sure what to make of that.

Are you sure it was the G block and not just At&t using MFBI on their PCS band? Because I've gotten LTE roaming to show up as B25 from At&T's F+C block

Same here. I got rid of Spectrum about 6 months ago and moved to Sling. Never looked back!! I initially started with the fire stick but then got an AIrTV from Sling. it has the OTA Antenna, tuner and integrated TV guide. Plus the standard Android TV apps. never been happier to pay 39.99 monthly bill for my Fios 50/50 internet.

  20. Sprint 2017 handset SRLTE mode survey/discussion

Google Pixel 2 XL always has SRLTE engaged. It uses ISIMv2. SMS seems to always go over CDMA rather than over LTE via IMS. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

I cut the cord today and got Sling. The retentions department of my cable provider seemed pretty mad. The person that I was speaking to kinda had an attitude the entire time. In total I am saving about $60 while also getting all of the channels that I love. I also have Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and YouTube Red. All I need to get is an indoor HDTV antenna to get a few missing channels and then I am all set.

  25. Many Sprint 2017 handsets operate in continuous SRLTE mode. For the uninitiated, SRLTE means that the handset is camped on both CDMA1X and LTE simultaneously, using LTE primarily but also monitoring CDMA1X every few seconds per the slot cycle index. Some Sprint handsets prior to 2017 would fall back to SRLTE mode in areas of low signal. More recent handsets, however, operate continuously on SRLTE. The easiest way to check for SRLTE is to use SignalCheck Pro -- if it constantly displays both CDMA1X and LTE signal metrics, then the handset is in always on SRLTE mode. To gather further info on what appears now to be permanent SRLTE operation and to allow for discussion of the advantages/disadvantages of SRLTE, we have opened this thread with an informal poll: Does your Sprint handset operate continuously in SRLTE mode? If so, what year, make, model? Also, does the handset require a new ISIM, as there may be correlation between SRLTE and ISIM? Lastly, lest this get confused with SVLTE, VoLTE, or Calling Plus, SRLTE is not connected directly with any of the aforementioned, nor does SRLTE enable simultaneous voice and data. AJ

  27. LG G6 to be Sprint's first HPUE-capable device

We probably should create a separate thread or write an article. But, yes, many 2017 handsets operate continuously in SRLTE mode. This may correlate with those handsets that require a new ISIM. Edit: I went ahead and started a new thread: AJ
