The next market in our Network Vision/LTE deployment schedule update series is...Oregon/SW Washington.  The Oregon market has yet to be announced by Sprint, and may not be announced until as late as this Fall.

The Sprint Oregon/SW Washington market covers the State of Oregon and the part of Washington in the Portland Metro Area and along the Columbia River.  This includes Portland, Salem, Eugene/Springfield, Bend, Corvallis, Astoria, Medford, Grants Pass and Klamath Falls in Oregon and Vancouver, Battle Ground, Kelso and Longview in Washington State.  Sprint's Network Vision OEM Samsung is scheduled to begin mobilizing their subcontractors around the market in October.  The first completed Network Vision sites are scheduled to start coming online before the end of that month.

Anticipated Sites Complete at Market Launch.  According to the Network Vision schedules that S4GRU has reviewed, if Sprint launched the market in June, these are the anticipated sites that would likely have LTE complete at that time.  This would provide fairly good LTE coverage over many parts of the market.

Schedule details and the bottom line

Sprint has not yet selected a date to formally "launch" LTE service in Oregon. It is difficult to try to pick a date now this far out, but we have attempted to do that.  In looking at the schedule as of today, it would indicate a June market launch (going on a 40% - 50% completion for launch).  But there is no way to know if Samsung and their subcontractors will actually hit their schedule dates before deployment in this market begins.  We will be able to gauge better after a few months of production is achieved.

Samsung needs to hit a production rate of approximately 45 sites per month to stay on schedule.  This is a normal production rate when compared to other markets.  They shouldn't have any schedule issues with the appropriate amount of resources allocated.

S4GRU has examined the schedule in great detail in this market and sees that most of the sites will be complete by September 2013. However, there may be a few sporadic sites that will linger past the completion.

Nice. Looks like they plan to have a lot more LTE towers compared to Wimax. Looking forward to the day we'd get LTE coverage all the way down I5 to Portland :-)

Once the market is 100% complete, LTE coverage will be pretty much identical with Sprint 3G coverage. It will take a lot of time to convert the entire market, though. About a year, start to finish.

This is great news. Any updates? And just to clarify, as the 4G infrastructure begins to be built out, will access to 4G happen as towers are installed, configured and connected, or would the new network not be enabled until all infrastructure components are in place?
I have a question on your dates. When you list the first LTE sites being in December does that mean they will be up and running on those sites around that time or is that when they begin work on the sites?

No updates yet on this market. Work still planned to start this quarter.

It is the time the first few sites should be completed and LTE active. Of course, it will take several months from then to have broad coverage. If they start on schedule in the market, then there will be a few sites completed before the end of December.

Do you have a map showing planned LTE sites in the NE Oregon (Hermiston - La Grande) and Southeast Washington (Richland, Kennewick, Walla Walla) areas?

We have maps in our Sponsor section, which show all the sites in the country that will receive NV/LTE upgrades. Including NE Oregon. You can find out more information about how to become a S4GRU Sponsor here: http://s4gru.com/ind...come-a-sponsor/

So if they are on schedule, is it possible that we will see LTE signal shortly (within about a month or so?) in the downtown or suburb areas of PDX?

They are about 3 months behind schedule. But work is under way. You may see the first testing signals in the next few weeks around Portland. However, it will be very spotty at first. Once the very first sites go live, more and more will be added every week over a 6 month period.

when will salem oregon be getting sprint lte
The first tower in the area just became active in Lake Oswego on the 16th. My verified sources tell me it is LTE and the first in the area that has completed Network Vision.

Seems like we already have it in some areas. I work just off the parkway near Cherry Ave and get LTE there, but not at home in West Salem. Fastest speeds I achieved are 24.64Mbps download 9.96Mbps upload (according to speedtest)
Beginning to show up in a few more places, specifically 26 and 217 interchange and Hillsboro airport:

Saturday Feb. 16. 2013 I called a Sprint store and they told me an LTE Tower is lit up in Boring Oregon near the U Pull it. So I decided to drive out there and check it out(better than driving to Hillsboro since I live in Happy Valley) Sure enough my 4g Lit Up! 1st Lte tower in SE Portland! KEEP GOING SPRINT! I Love It!
LTE is up and running in several areas around Gresham (East suburb of Portland)
Troutdale (East suburb of PDX) also seeing 4g (perhaps from a tower in Gresham), best I could get so far was 3 bars (5680 down, 4009 up)
