Honestly, that article kind of scared me. I mean, there's a lot of talk about potential in the future, but Sprint has a long history of underperforming on promises. Then, you've got Verizon exiting CDMA/LTE (how does that work? Is it cuz they're going to pure LTE with VoLTE instead of falling back on CDMA for voice?) meaning Sprint is on a tiny little island in terms of phones. Should up cost and drop variety. Meanwhile, T-Mobile looks in excellent position for the future. They're already set up for urban areas and just need to expand into suburban. I mean, the article talks about 30Mbps for Sprint, but haven't a bunch of people said that the goal is 8-9Mbps consistently? That's a huge difference. I've only seen the 30Mbps for Sprint in a few select spots, and after just a short while, some of those areas dropped down to 2-4. There was a CNET article (I think out today also) that also made things seem a bit bad for Sprint.

Ahh, ok. That explains it. I wonder which tower is sending LTE to my neighborhood (NorthWest of the softball fields) then.

Interesting. I've stood underneath that tower and got only 3G. I wonder if my phone was pulling from another tower at the time (I only learned about the turning on airplane mode trick very recently). It would explain how my neighborhood gets LTE now and why T-Mobile is the only other one that sometimes gets reception into my neighborhood.

Could also be your individual phone. DW and I both have iPhone 5s. Bought at same time. Hers picks up LTE a LOT better than my phone. We've had them side by side and seen this behavior all the time.

Congrats! LTE is on in Roseville/Rocklin from at least Pleasant Grove and Rocklin all the way up North on Lonetree through to Lincoln. That's gotta be 2 or 3 towers live beyond the very first one in the whole Upper Central Valley one down in SW Roseville. In the past week, my house in Rocklin went from on/off and 2 bars at I think 4 Mbps d/l to a solid 3 bars and about 11 Mbps d/l.

There's gotta be two new towers live in Roseville and Rocklin/Lincoln. At least from the Krispy Kreme on Pleasant Grove to the Target up at Blue Oaks, LTE is live. Speedtest was showing about 8 Mbps down and I forget how much up. 6 maybe? Also, the Whitney Ranch area of Rocklin to at least some parts of the Twelve Bridges area in Lincoln gets LTE too, altho it's intermittent on my phone. Maybe it's turning on and off or that area is between a tower that has LTE on and one that's still 3G, but my phone keeps switching between the two in that area. If LTE, I only get 1 or 2 bars (and only about 3 Mbps down and around 2 up). 3G I get about 3 and sometimes 4 bars (still with crappy data speeds tho).

I'd be stoked with even 8 Mbps down. Certain parts of SF (mainly downtown) are down to a consistent 2-4 Mbps (near the Costco for example). That said, AT&T and Verizon have also suffered from areas where it's dropped to near 3G speeds. Far sight better than the 3G I get now from Sprint, but still noticeably "slow." A consistent minimum of 8 would be fabulous though. On a mobile device, that's still fine for streaming video IMO.

I'm a little surprised Roseville is first, but this is really cool. Now if only they'd get the one that services the Galleria mall cuz reception in there sucks and the free wifi is worse than 3G. I wonder why there were no towers on the mall itself. Too expensive perhaps? I know the last general manager there would have gotten things done quick if a deal could be struck. This current GM doesn't strike me as particularly competent.

Well, I left at end of 2009. For a variety of reasons. My old neighborhood had a fire that stopped at the farm across the street. Because of the idiots in charge, we had no way out. They were supposed to build a road so we wouldn't get trapped by the 65 Bypass, but they never did. So, when the fire hit, it was clear proof that we were dead if it had jumped the road since the only way out was Moore Rd and through the fire. They finally put in a road, but it's kinda dangerous with how windy it is and how it connects to Moore. And it's not at the spot where the road was supposed to be. The road was supposed to extend from one of the two main roads in the neighborhood to Lincoln Crossing. The new road is outside the neighborhood so if that fire jumped, everyone is still screwed. On the East side of Lincoln (Twelve Bridges area), there are whole neighborhoods where streetlights are in place down some streets, but then they just stop. But, the city apparently has those street lamps on its books. Someone embezzled or did some major fraud on that. Prolly lots more, but I knew one guy who was really pissed about that cuz he lived where there were no streetlights and he couldn't get any traction with his complaints cuz the city kept saying their records say there were street lights. I'm sure that's part of why that one Supervisor is no longer there, but my road problem was not the fault of just the supervisor. The mayor, city council, all those idiots had a hand in not getting that road built. Moved to Rocklin and have been light years happier. Don't even have to camp out the night before to enroll my kid in school. Got a friend to move just a few blocks over from Twelve Bridges to where we are and they're way happier too. I really gotta try and get some info from Rocklin's Planning Dept cuz I have no idea which tower services this area.

So what do you ask for to find out about permits in these cities that don't post online? You have a sample script or something? Rocklin's likely on the slow end anyways, as is Lincoln (internal fraud pretty much has that city near bankruptcy so being run on a skeleton crew). I'll see if I can swing by sometime during business hours. Does County matter? I mean, Upper Central Valley covers a pretty broad area doesn't it? Roseville is part of Placer County, as is Rocklin, Lincoln, Newcastle, Loomis, Auburn, etc. I'm not even sure where Nevada County starts but I don't think it's near any major population zone.

Definitely LTE. My wife works in that coverage zone. The past couple days, she's taking full advantage showing co-workers how fast internet loads, calling me to test Facetime, etc. We both have iPhone 5's and it says LTE instead of 3G when a LTE signal is found. Man, looking at lilotimz's map, Rocklin/Lincoln have like 1 Sprint tower. That's pathetic. And very bizarre that in my neighborhood (well, the Eastern half of south Lincoln also), only Sprint works when the nearest tower looks to be all the way down on Blue Oaks on Industrial or so.

Pretty sure it's the same tower, but my wife reports that she's getting LTE in the Kaiser medical center off Cirby and Riverside. 27.5 down and 7.7 up. Sweet!

That's what I'm talking about! That's why I stuck with Sprint. I like the company. My 3G speeds are atrocious, but I just needed a little hope. Seeing concrete examples now that the hope is turning into reality. And fast too! My last hope is that the one tower even remotely near me puts out a much better signal (or they do micro cells or whatever they need to do). But it seems Sprint is the only one (possibly T-Mobile) even using that tower so I really don't have much of a choice I guess.

Dang, looks like my stupid city doesn't show permits online. I wonder if Roseville does cuz they're the big shot city around here and should have more money n be more sophisticated.
