#497566 SignalCheck - Android app to monitor your 2G/3G/4G LTE signal strengths

Posted by lilotimz on 23 January 2017 - 12:04 PM

Anybody know what this Signal check screen is showing.  A friend sent it to me.  This friend does not know how to get into engineering screens and see what he really has found.  Signal check is not identifying the band.   It is a galaxy S-7 Edge phone.
This is in Tucson, Arizona within a dog park.

Here's a link to the full res picture, but it's just an iPhone pic:

And here's a much better closeup of a similar setup from Jonathan Kramer's site.  The only difference is a missing cover on the post of the top mounted antenna:

Nice to see Nokia FTHC LTE UE Relay antennas are now in service.

So far I don't see anything that proves a 4th carrier.

4 unique EARFCNs from the same site with the same serving cell and nearly identical RSRP levels. With one of them being 100 MHz separated from the three contiguous carriers (39926 vs 40978+41176+41374).

Did you even click the post link?

I'm in an ALU/Nokia-A market so I'm not great at recognizing non-ALU 8T8Rs, but I'm pretty sure the lower right antenna in the first image is an 8T8R.

Oh, and it's super important to keep in mind that (IIRC, Tim please correct me if I'm wrong) 8T8Rs can't do more than 3xCA. So you won't see individual speeds higher than what we've seen so far.

Future software updates needed.

so the site does have 8T8R install on it

Six this year no. The 4th isn't even planned. Only plans more B41 towers that don't have it, small cells hopefully macro sites. Along with B41 3XCA possible B25 CA. 4x4 mimo 256 qam.

The 4th B41 carrier has actually been found and confirmed in the wild.

Maybe I missed it, but when did Sprint set the inauguration as the deadline for enabling 3CA on their network and phones? I thought they announced 3CA was going to be enabled early 2017 and not necessarily the inauguration.

Q1 2017.

#496738 Router recommendation

In my previous desktop IT consultant job/'former life', we installed Ubiquiti UniFi's (think the original ones though, not the model you suggested) in many businesses, so I can vouch for the hardware and actual usage/service quality - the only real negative I remember hating about it was how quirky the software client was to install so you could configure it. I know in a couple locations we could never get it working on Server and had to run it on one of the workstations instead.  Have they improved the software configuration client to any degree?

Much much better since the original UniFi Aps.

They've created easy "how to" walk through guides on how to get a basic network up on the Edgerouter X / Lite now with the constant software updates and revisions. The APs are super simple to set up too since it can be done via phone app and seamlessly works with the router or as stand alones.

Ubiquiti AC Pro/ Lite + Edgerouteri.

If you want an AIO then a Tp link c9 or an Asus AC1900 will work on a dime.

Make sure you get the ethernet port of the ONT activated and a cst5/cat 6 cable ran to it.
