  1. sprint had them for years, scattered over cell sites, throughout the network.. you really pick up on them when tethering (esp. back in the day) in tcpdump & wireshark.. those dept of defense IPs get all in the raw packet dump..
  2. if you notice, the internal ip addy 29.107.28.227, is DoD.. sprint has lots of them..
  3. anyone in the dc area, i picked this up ealier this week in capitol hill on a stock nexus 5, might want to check it out - https://plus.google.com/100566062990321750433/posts/RXNFtYes33u https://plus.google.com/100566062990321750433/posts/AzsWLhF7JJ2 the fastest i've picked up in town..
  4. this is what i don't like (being pensive) but when i quietly connect the dots, after trying to figure out why the nexus 5 came with bands neutered from the gate (when they've could have been enabled) i read stuff like this from sprint - dated March 24, 2014 "...Saw explained that Sprint plans to use carrier aggregation to combine two 2.5 GHz TDD-LTE channels "towards the end of this year," though he said that launch could happen early next year. He said the rollout of two-channel LTE on Sprint's 2.5 GHz spectrum will result in peak download speeds of roughly 120 Mbps, though average speeds likely will be slower. He said Sprint will likely gradually roll out e two-channel LTE on 2.5 GHz spectrum across specific markets, though he didn't provide details. Saw said Sprint will add an additional carrier to its 2.5 GHz LTE network at the end of next year, giving the system three full channels and supporting peak download speeds of roughly 180 Mbps..." ooo.k , now - "Those are incredibly fast speeds," Saw said, adding that Sprint may even be able to increase speeds beyond that through additional technologies. "With smart antenna capabilities that we are putting in our systems we are able to leverage even higher speeds than those. We're talking about multilayer MIMO, and all that is being developed in our labs." However, Saw said that Sprint Spark users today will need to purchase new devices to be able to access those faster speeds. He confirmed that the Spark devices that Sprint sells today will not be able access two-channel and three-channel 2.5 GHz configurations, thus forcing Sprint customers to upgrade to new devices that can access those configurations in order to make use of the faster speeds..." http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/sprints-saw-spark-hit-120-mbps-peaks-end-2014-180-mbps-peaks-end-2015/2014-03-24 ...why the need to upgrade, when the spark enabled consumer hardware which is capable ALREADY - "..Gobi 4G LTE Advanced with Carrier Aggregation for speeds up to 150 Mbps.." http://www.qualcomm.com/snapdragon/processors/800 as current as the date of March, most *spark enabled handsets* have no less than the snapdragon 800 chipset, correct? then again, as i watch the market, & consumerism is being played on, i wonder of whatever spark update will come to THIS nexus 5 line, in fear of it cannabalizing next releases - http://www.engadget.com/2014/04/07/qualcomm-snapdragon-810/?ncid=rss_truncated (quoted as capable to doing 300 mb in 3 carrier agregation) i'm really wondering if in labs behind closed doors, the nexus 5 is seeing spark test speeds well above the quoted 150mb & doing it well, but the update not being released until watered down.. i'm just pensive.. it'll die when i see max speeds of lte 150mb flowing thru this device, til then..
  5. https://plus.google.com/100566062990321750433/posts/79zAAMR97Ng - there
  6. this is what i get from signl check pro - https://plus.google.com/100566062990321750433/posts/McXPjqPjsni
  7. no, didn't see a way.. just set it to 3g in *prefered network type* no sim card, no evdo nor lte data but OK for voice.. handset's number & imei already provisioned for service on the network side, letting the call thru? (fallback / failsafe for a lost sim, etc)
  8. last night, i switched to 3g only, turned the nexus 5 off pulled the sim out, booted up, got the 3g icon in the notification tray, but the swipe down read *no internet connection*, made a test call to the work line, it went through, (twice) & fast, tried speedtest - error came back that *there was a network problem* from the app, browser wouldn't load any pages... i noticed for awhile that no data was travelling through 1x, while on the metro subway underground, some parts where i'd roam on vzw, i now get native sprint 3g, w/o roaming turned on, texts thru hangouts only go thru while 3g showed, when back in the early days before evdo, sms & data went thru 1xrtt.. i type that only to say, that not only does the sprint sim provision lte, but evdo also! (this i didn't know) everyone equates the sim with provisioning lte only on sprint, but it seems it's all of it's data traffic (both evdo in addition to lte).. but not the 1xrtt voice channel - i could make & receive calls w/o the sim inserted, but not send nor receive data, even though the 3g channel was recoqnized by the handset in the notification tray..
  9. same place (at my desk) & i'm stubbornly idling on 1x800.. i switched it off lte, to 3g, going to take an extended lunch break & ride around dc to see something.. on prl 55018 no roaming
  10. i remember one saturday posting in the HD voice thread, i made some screenshot which showed 1x800 evrc-hw while making an outgoing test call right from my bed.. i wasn't even looking for 1x800.. thought i was connected to 1.9 freq.. odd..
  11. ok... i'm not sure how you're looking at things from your side of the keyboard & monitor... but from my side, **arguing** isn't hardly the thing i wanted to project from my end, i didn't see *argument* anywhere, from my end; you want me to just, accept that "people who have extensively researched this issue. In case you have not noticed, there are 260 pages and 5,187 replies to this thread. I am sure what you are discussing has been covered extensively... i was always told, there's never such thing a dumb question.. no1 has answerd technically, WHY the nexus 5 shipped with bands neutered.. but i'll leave it alone..
  12. i remember my last posts on that article about csfb on the wall - http://s4gru.com/index.php?/blog/1/entry-357-nexus-5-and-lg-g2-experience-temporary-sprint-lte-connectivity-issues-due-to-circuit-switched-fallback-technology/?st=75#commentsStart
  13. like how so? your reply to me as a mod, was "there's a nexus forum for that" then comments were moved here.. the focus was all over the place ABOUT the nexus 5, but my pointed inquiery, about why it shipped neutered comes off as.. trollish, when in reality, it seems the question is being brushed off, i'm looking at the replies, & i'm like "for real"..
