Anyone get the RCS update yet?

Recommended Posts

Just curious if anyone's had RCS get enabled in Google Messenger yet? I have the latest version (2.0.069), but still no RCS. Google and Sprint seems to indicate having the newest version is enough, but I'm wondering if there is a server side switch as well?

Yeah, it enabled for me yesterday. It took a couple of days after I updated the app. I haven't been able to test it out because unfortunately most of the people that I know with Sprint have iPhones and naturally use iMessage. It'd be nice if Apple baked RCS into iMessage, but of course they have no incentive to do so.

Have the update on my HTC 10 but not enabled yet. For the record, both parties need to be using Messenger, right?

To take advantage of the enhanced features, yes.

How do you know if you've received the push?

I opened the app and it asked if I wanted to turn on enhanced messaging and then some wizardry happened about sharing your sim info with the mobile provider. Didn't get any other updates.

If it will also do regular MMS over WiFi in lieu of RCS I'll be pleased as punch. I really do like Google's messenger but I'm not leaving the stock messaging app without it.

I was bummed when regular sms wouldn't even work with sprint wifi calling
