Oppo R9

I've been reading online quite a bit about the R9 smartphone by Oppo, which is suppose to be released in a matter of hours. While I'm considering getting the LG G5, I'm also very interested in the Oppo R9 for its advantages over the LG G5, which includes an AMOLED screen that is 6 inches on the Plus version, VOOC fast charging, a bit cheaper price at around $450 US dollars, and Oppo already has a very excellent DAC device for HQ audio that also includes an amplifier, not just a DAC module as what LG will be offering with the G5. Here is a link to the Oppo audio device :

I have a question though. Since the Oppo R9 is being made for the Chinese market, along with some other markets (I think), will it work on the T-Mobile network here in the U.S., even considering the bands listed are the same as what T-Mobile US supports? I'm not sure if the R9 will list those same bands, though other Oppo smartphones have. I'm concerned though that even if they are listed, there may be something about it that doesn't work and that reason itself isn't posted online, such as configuration issues, etc. I figured S4GRU would be the place to ask, considering the technical knowledge many people here have regarding these issues.

Arysyn,

When I first read your post I thought you were saying the R9 was going to have an integrated DAC and amp comparable to the HA-2. That got my attention, but after not being able to find any such specs, I reread your post and I think I understand you to mean you are considering the R9 in combination with the HA-2 vs the LG5 and its external amp. By the way I like that the R9 has an FM radio. I am getting into Apple Music on my 6S+  but I miss my FM radio in my previous Android device.

I picked up some new headphones in December to get the best sound out of my 6S+. I was able to test just about all of the models I was interested in as well as a few portable head phone amps. In the end the head phones I liked the most (for $700 or less) were the Oppo PM3, Hi - Fi Man HE 400 and 600, Grado RS1e, and Audeze EL8(open). The EL8 were the best all arounders with and without an amp in my opinion. Without an amp plugged into the phone's headphone jack these sound the best. Add an amp and they just get better. The Hi - Fi Man headphones require an amp to sound as good, they need an amp. I liked the Grado RS1e a lot but I think the EL 8 offered a truer sound for a wider range of music. I did not have a chance to test the Oppo headphone amp but did test two good amps on either side of it in price/performance. I think every review I have read about the HA2 has been excellent; to the extent it is not perfect, that is relative to amps that cost considerably more. If I were to get one amp and buy it and forget about it , it would be the Chord Mojo:

Thank you for all of the information regarding amps and headphones! There certainly are a lot of options, which from here it seems you've tried many of them, similar to what a friend of mine from Connecticut tries with audio. He got me interested in headphone audio quality, which once I tried the DAC on the LG V10 I then completely understood why he put so much importance on it. The sound quality made an amazing difference to me! If only the V10 I had didn't have the calling defect, I'd still have the v10. So now I'm trying to decide on getting the LG G5 or the Oppo R9 with the T-Mobile service I have, because I want the best audio quality with this, in either getting the LG G5 with the Bang & Olufsen HiFi DAC module or to get the Oppo R9 Plus with the HA-2 Amp/Dac adapter.

I've heard since my op that the Oppo R9 is first being released as a Chinese version then an international version afterwards. I'll want the international version, if it is going to work with the T-Mobile network here in the U.S. Although if there is still a chance the Sony Xperia X Performance arrives earlier, I could end up getting that with the Sony pha-3 :

Although I'm not fond of the expense between those items.

Also, I prefer to have in-ear headphones, which if I get the Oppo R9, I'm likely to get the top-of the-line Sennheiser, or if I get the Sony Xperia X Performance I'll get one of the high quality imports. Both of those options are the more expensive options in contrast with the LG G5, which despite being an MSRP of $629.99, I expect the Jump On Demand price to be at around $499.95. The HiFi module which is suppose to include the H-3 earphones by Bang & Olufsen I'm expecting will cost around $299-$349, which considering T-Mobile is giving me a $150 discount for the difficulties I've had with them involving the Samsung GS7 Edge, is the least expensive of the options. The Oppo/Sennheiser option, and the Sony option, will be around $2,000. So, I have a lot of thinking and planning to do.

    • Has anyone checked Verizon n77 in areas with more than 100MHZ active? This spectrum has been fully available since August of last year.  Of course they are not typically using SA.
    • I updated my other s21 ultra factory unlocked to the latest firmware... It behaves like the S24 Ultra n38 or n41 depending on 80 or 100MHz or their nr- arfcn.
    • I see everything correct. The two ARFCN's you mentioned earlier and they idenitify as n-41.  using 4.832b SCP. Only using one TM SIM.
    • I posted this in the Nebraska Premier thread last week, but just wanted to share in this thread the progress that T-Mobile has made in filling in the great coverage gap known as Nebraska. Between late last year and this year, they have added 28 new expansion sites filling in the coverage hole, plus 11 Sprint site conversions in eastern Nebraska and far western Iowa. Notably, in the last month n41 coverage was added on over a dozen expansion sites in western Nebraska that were added to the network last year. For comparison, here is the very first map that I created in October of 2022 after we noted expansion sites outside of Sprint conversion in Lincoln and Omaha. It doesn't show any western parts of the state, but just know there was nothing besides roaming coverage and a little B12 coverage leaking down from South Dakota to the west of Valentine, NE.
    • Sent a copy of my DB in an e-mail just now.  Couldn't leave the house today but can hopefully get a screenshot when I'm out on another cell site tomorrow.
