Did some searching and found a couple of articles with rumored specs/design and a supposed leaked image via TechRadar and GottaBeMobile Droid Life respectively:

The removable 'battery tray' design seems kind of interesting, although I'm not sure how I like how that may affect the ability to use extended battery cases.

I hope we start to see more information pop up on this device... my G3 will be paid off in July and I've been tempted with the Note 5 but I REALLY like the LG interface over TouchWhiz.

 

So I'm hoping, begging, pleading that the G5 will impress me and rock... and that it actually will be with Sprint! If history repeats itself, would this phone be released yet this year or next year?

i hope this ends up being really good! i have the flex 2 right now and my yearly framily upgrade is in march. i really wanted the nexus 6p but since i can't get it through sprint on easy pay it isn't an option for the yearly upgrade thing. i'm kind of disappointed with the options available.... i don't like touchwiz so i stay away from samsung, HTC doesn't have a new phone over 5" screen, not an apple fan, and can't get nexus phones through sprint. so that just leaves me with LG, hope they come through!

I've always been a fan of LG devices, but the older UIs really turned me off from using them. I'm hoping this time around LG goes with more of a "stock" look.

I've used Nova for long enough that at this point I never bother with whatever comes native on a phone anyway regardless of the situation - I love the depth of customization it offers.

I've used Nova for long enough that at this point I never bother with whatever comes native on a phone anyway regardless of the situation - I love the depth of customization it offers.

 

It's funny you mention that. I used to try different launches back in the day, but finally just gave up because I told myself that my phone should work fine out of the box, and not require me to rebuild the GUI just to make it usable.

 

One of the reasons why I've always liked HTC over Samsung is that they butcher the UI less.

I've been an LG user since the G3 premiered... And totally loved the design. The biggest reasons were:

1. The back buttons. Says it all
2. Knock on. made things just simple, as they should be.
3. The quality. No gimmicky junk that nobody really uses (*heartbeat sensor, really?)...

I moved from Samsung galaxy devices after the S3..to LG..And never looked back. The s3 was a solid device and had useful features...but the S4 just wasn't my cup of tea. The gimmicky stuff they put in it and the sluggishness of Touchwiz just turned me completely off to it. My wife got the S5, and I saw quickly that Samsung was still doing the same crap, so I went to the G4.

 

Now, I'm reading the stuff about LG moving the back buttons to the side...and the screen size being either smaller or the same as G4 & G3..and that's enough to turn me away. I originally loved the innovation of the G3 back button and knock on...

But now, I've had to do something with my daughter's phone...her s5 screen cracked, and kept cracking...but was still usable for a while...but the last couple weeks it got so bad that she couldn't use it anymore...

So I had to do something. Nothing has come out the last couple months so I had to choose something that's been on market for a while. I decided that I wasn't going to get my daughter a brand new premium phone to carry around and have "accidents" happen. The S5 screen wasn't her fault, per se, but it still happened. And I went to Sprint's store on Monday without knowing much of anything about current devices...and wasn't ready to get myself another phone...but had to choose quickly..

 

I wound up deciding to move back to Samsung, and got the Note 5. The only thing I'm unhappy with is the stores don't carry 64gb versions, and I'll be fixing that problem on Monday...I'm using my 14-day to take the 32gb back, swap for the 64 and have it direct ship to store. They said that was the only way I could get it...they won't ship to residence...

 

Other than that, I'm completely happy with the Note 5, aside from not having SD storage. The only reason 32 won't be sufficient, I've had it 4 days now, and I'm at 18gbs filled up now.. I have yet to download my Rhapsody playlists to the phone so I know in a year or 2 I will be maxxed out.

If LG had continued it's current path and kept things the way they are now....except bring a little bigger screen this time, and a Note-type stylus and interface like Samsung has with the Note...then I would've done things differently with my daughter and got the LG phone when it hit. I do have an extra phone (G3) that I could've put my daughter on until the G5 arrived, then upgrade ...

LG had my support until now, and deciding to do it like everyone else is just a fail to me. Nothing it seems will set the G5 apart from anything else out there..where used to people could tell by the way your phone buttons were placed and know you had that LG phone..

Or they would see you tap the screen 2 times and know what you had.

Now, if you get a G5 and put a case on it...what's gonna be the "hey, thats the new LG phone isn't it?" factors? Nothing.

 

I'm more pleased that I can handle more with my Note than I could with G4 and G3...

All the testing I do for companies, I can download and sign my NDA's with the Note and do some pretty neat stuff with that S-pen.

That's one way to look at it I guess, but another is, there's something worthwhile about being able to upgrade your hardware while maintaining the same usage experience and customization across multiple devices (assuming Android based). Most of us pretty much do the same thing with PC's when we upgrade them - why not our phones too?

Btw, Nova at least allows you to backup and import your setup too I believe - obviously you'd have to reinstall all your previous apps first, but you'd be doing that anyway even if you stick with the built-in/native launcher.

I feel like the current LG OS is pretty close to stock Android. Much closer than Samsung, about like HTC. Of course it's still got it's gimmicks, but I haven't had any issues going back and forth between my Nexus 5 and my G3/4.

Haven't seen anything regarding weight, though I wouldn't expect more minutia like that to be documented until its in hands for reviewers...but speculation/rumor from the TechRadar article in the initial post states:

 

"It also includes dimensions of 149.4 x 73.9 x 8.2mm, which would make it taller but thinner than the LG G4."

Personally I will probably avoid this device since I have had bad experiences with LG devices (G2, G3, and G4).  The devices lose their value way too quick and I feel that they are built on cheap materials.  These leaked pictures make the device look cheap.

I was displeased with the G2's persistent GPS issue, enjoyed the G3, and felt no need for a G4 upgrade.

 

Regarding value, the initial price point is usually much cheaper than Samsung and definitely Apple, so that somewhat balances out the quick depreciation.

I'm not absolutely getting it by any stretch yet, but definitely keeping an eye on it.  I'm in the opposite end of the spectrum from Overstew - I've never owned/used an LG phone at all.  However, I'd been thinking heavily for months about moving to a G4, until news started coming out about the G5, so I'm intrigued enough at this point to see how it actually turns out after all the reviews start pouring in.

 

Value/depreciation on a phone seems silly to me, as I (at least thus far) don't switch up phones any more frequently than a year and a half or so at best - and that last time was only because my Photon Q had a whoops-ident whereby the screen cracked and I had to have an immediate turnaround for work purposes (that's how I ended up on the S4).   Also, particularly given so many people seem to require cases that cover the majority of a phone's outer housing anyway, the whole 'cheap' vs 'expensive looking' argument is a pretty silly one to my mind as well.

Other than the obvious G2 GPS issue, and the recall on the G4, why did you have a bad experience? I did not own the G2, but have had the G3 and G4, both of which have served me well, no complaints with either device.
