Poll for new sprint ideas - plan related

Possible to start a poll where we could vote what's important to us plan wise. Maybe different questions pertaining to different plans. This could then be forwarded to Marcelo for some real feedback on what the public wants.

One sounds like a good idea, but secondly, you do realize how many millions of subscribers cell phone companies have right? As of today s4gru's site only has 24,918, and even if everyone who is on this site gave feedback that would be a drop in the bucket and probably would not even be looked in reality. I am just saying how I see it. Its just my opinion.

  • 2 months later...

I'm posting about this here, since this thread is plan related, as I got to thinking about how Sprint is raising the rate of the unlimited plan, which is something I wonder if they will do with other plans, particularly with the Everything Data Plan. As great as that plan is, it certainly is one of the best deals not only on Sprint, but on any carrier.

I think if Sprint does something with it, perhaps they can eliminate unlimited along with it and do some other creative thinking in their working to cut costs. I suggest merging their prepaid with postpaid and create a hybrid service where governmental taxes and fees are included, and there is a choice to pay in advance, monthly, autopay, or a combination.

Make the plan simple, one base rate with a decent amount of data, along with an affordable overage rate that would satisfy Everything Data and Unlimited Data subscribers. I suggest 5gb with one line inclusive at $35 monthly, then $2 for every additional 1gb of data (Monthly total rate examples - 15gb for $55, 25gb for $75, 35gb for $95, etc.) However, no shared data, as it really isn't needed for this plan.

Also, I suggest a simplified, one-year lease rate of $5 for every $100 of the MSRP device cost. So, for example, a device costing $300, would be $15 monthly for 12 months, $180 total, and a device costing $700, would be $35 monthly for 12 months, $420 total.

I have some ideas about how Sprint could better serve customers through retail, I'll explain later...

The issue really is that simple is in direct disagreement with agile.

So, you can have a simple $60 unlimited and simple family plans but that means that you are no longer as agile as before unless you change all the existing plans as well. See: T-Mobile. They started out with uncarrier making big changes but now they are caught in a confusing maze of 3 different "jump" programs and all kinds of different plan levels that exist.

Similarly Sprint started out with family share super simple but now they have both iphone for life and iphone forever as well as the cut your bill in half and double data promotions so one person may have 4 lines on a 20GB plan @100 and the guy next to him is on like 28 GB (2 GB per line promo) or 40GB for double data or lower cost from the bill cutting promo. How Sprint employees keep track of all of this is mindboggling. Between these plans and existing legacy plans they must constantly be seeing all kinds of plans with different exclusions and costs. That is the price of being agile and able to respond to the market.

Very true, Cletus!

There are way too many rate plans and too many variations in these rate plans, which is why there needs to be a change to actually simplify the process, and without adding complications in it later on.

I'm very much against shared line plans, despite having created shared line plan concepts when trying to modify existing ones in examples posted on S4GRU. Shared line plans become more complicated the more lines are added, creating a need for the customer to figure out how much data each line needs, which may vary over time. Figuring that out just for one or two lines may be complicated enough.

Also, data bucket allotments end up costing more as they include the built in cost of voice and text not entirely covered in line charges, which is unfair charging of customers who use less, especially since the actual per gb data rates are more expensive in lower quantity data bucket options than in higher quantity data bucket options.

Data bucket plans essentially charge lighter users for what heavier users consume. It is like a buffet, despite the price difference. Although, if all data bucket options were the same rate per gb, then there wouldn't be a need for these data buckets at all, which a single rate with per gb overages would do fine, and would be vastly more fair to customers than data buckets.

As long as that rate starts affordably enough for every line to have that rate and is comparable to multi-line plan rates, then there isn't a need for multi-line plans either. I believe starting out at $35 monthly per line, each including 5gb, would work, which since it isn't a huge amount of included data, there isn't a need for sharing. Especially with overages by the gb.

Anyways, I'll write more here later...

I think the assumption is that these data bucket users are in same family, so there is really one unit paying all the bills. But I see a lot of adult kids staying on mom and dads plan too, when really they should be on their own. But I guess as long at the parents don't want to kick them off or make them pay extra...

Very good point. I think there is a convenience factor in that too, where adult kids don't have that responsibility of managing, besides the issue of money too. Plus, other issues such as credit responsibility, etc.

Sprint was going the right way with how they designed the Framily plan, in that regard. Everyone gets their own bill, while still maintaining a way to convince people to multi-line. It was similar, yet still a much better deal than T-Mobile at the time.

Good news for everyone who is tired of me talking about my own rate plan ideas! ????

The above quote of mine, regarding rates, is practically final, after the past months of thinking this through, and revising, etc. Although, I may make rate plan suggestions to carrier rate plan initiatives for holiday promotions, etc. Although, my own rate plan ideas as if I had my own carrier, is done.

I want to make a final add on here as to a lower "bundle" price of a simple 10gb additional to these rates, should a customer decide to have a consistent monthly rate of $55 or higher, instead of the basic $35 monthly rate, and agrees to permanent leasing. For example, $55 monthly - 25gb instead of 15gb and so on.

It goes further to maintain those customers with unlimited data that way, I believe, but it isn't completely catering to them either, due to those two provisions making it more of a "bundled" offer.

So anyways, this will stand as my official plan idea, no changes made, unless a carrier goes lower than this with their rates. This plan includes my idea for the network variable speed cap, which I made a thread for some time ago.

    • Was able to install the March 1 Android security patch. Seems slightly more accurate with 5g ca band id, but can not swear by it. Updated google play system update through the software information screen to March 1. *#73# still works. Froze updates waiting on SCP update beta to fix n41 showing as n38.
    • Just installed it. Thanks for the info.  71 mb mar 1st date.
    • There's a permit for a new 47 story building at 205 Montague St in Downtown Brooklyn. The problem is that  T-Mobile eNB 48352 is on the building next door and this new building will block two out of 3 sectors of the site. For reference, the new building will be roughly as tall as 16 Court St which is right across the street. This site is the primary site covering Cadman Plaza so I wonder what the plan is. Will they just try to change sector placement, move to a different building, or will this just speed up the conversion of the Sprint site at 25 Monroe Place?
    • At least not recently.  I think I might have seen this a year ago.  Not Sure.
    • Did they previously hop between n38 and n41 in prior version of SCP, or have you always seen n41 displayed properly?
