SMS issues

Recommended Posts

I've been doing a lot of traveling lately and I'm having bad SMS experiences. This is occurring on a LG G2 with Android 4.4.2 and a Nexus 5 with 5.0.1.

It has occurred in Chicago, Tucson, Des Moines and Champaign.

Sending SMS gets stuck on "Sending" and might eventually send or might fail. Incoming texts I'm getting 3 or 4 times each with different time stamps.

Known issue?

Are you using the default messaging or a 3rd party messaging app via Google Play?  Are you able to make and receive calls?  Have you tried powering down both handsets for a few minutes and then re-attempt sending SMS messages after you power them back up?  Have you done a PRL and data profile update?

Using Google's messenger app. Calls are fine. Data is fine. Phone has been rebooted and also toggle airplane mode. PRL and profile is current. Very intermittent problem. Sprint responded to a tweet tonight saying its a known LTE issue without a fix yet and to change to 3G to get the SMS out if it happens. Not sure I believe that because I'm pretty sure my phone had kicked back to 3G indoors in Chicago this weekend and I still couldn't get a SMS out.

I have had this issue as well and it seems to be either a registration issue between the device and the tower or you are in a spot where the network has trouble assigning you to a band because you are bouncing between them. Where i work i had the issue for three months but was finally able to get it resolved by them adjusting either the power level or tilt of the panels. After the resolution the band 41 signal seems to travel further as well.

    • Was able to install the March 1 Android security patch. Seems slightly more accurate with 5g ca band id, but can not swear by it. Updated google play system update through the software information screen to March 1. *#73# still works. Froze updates waiting on SCP update beta to fix n41 showing as n38.
    • Just installed it. Thanks for the info.  71 mb mar 1st date.
    • There's a permit for a new 47 story building at 205 Montague St in Downtown Brooklyn. The problem is that  T-Mobile eNB 48352 is on the building next door and this new building will block two out of 3 sectors of the site. For reference, the new building will be roughly as tall as 16 Court St which is right across the street. This site is the primary site covering Cadman Plaza so I wonder what the plan is. Will they just try to change sector placement, move to a different building, or will this just speed up the conversion of the Sprint site at 25 Monroe Place?
    • At least not recently.  I think I might have seen this a year ago.  Not Sure.
    • Did they previously hop between n38 and n41 in prior version of SCP, or have you always seen n41 displayed properly?
