Sprint during CES

Recommended Posts

I have been for the last four days at CES and Sprint has been very good this year. I had Sprint, Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile available and Sprint was the most reliable network.

North Hall: B41 (speeds between 12-30MB down)

Central: B25 (2-12MB down)

South Hall Upper/Lower: B41 (10-25MB down).

Verizon has massive issues and people had signal but could not connect to LTE. I have not seen any XLTE (aws) in Las Vegas so their main band is just congested.

AT&T had voice issues and dropped down to Edge several times too.

T-Mobile was giving free prepaid sim cards away (I guess they need it to beat Sprint) but their network was okay but speeds was between bad and ok, not very reliable.

Personally, Sprint made a lot of improvements and if they continue to tweak and improve it, it will be able to handle much more next year.

Thats just in one area.... Every carrier is different from city to city, etc....

Yeah, well the title says it all Sprint during CES. The op was making a claim about sprint service in that one location and time, nothing else.

Performance in Vegas during CES has been a nightmare for Sprint since the beginning of Network Vision.  Glad things have improved significantly over years past.

That is true but Sprint has been bad before NV. Wimax works too and I am getting about 5MB down without any major issues. Sprint's NV has made such an improvement in the network that you're finally able to use it during a major event like CES.

Did they have a DAS or temporary COW there, or was such performance able to be provided by the macro network? Any B41 2nd carrier sightings?

I know that the general deployment of additional B41 carriers has been delayed, but I'd expect them to make an early appearance at events like this, like one did at the World Series.

If the macro network was able to sustain such speeds with just one B41 carrier, then perhaps it's an indication that relatively few there were Sprint subscribers, which wouldn't be that surprising, given the tech media's general disdain for Sprint. Regardless of the reason, it's very nice to hear that it has improved so much.

I think there was nothing extra installed and B41 speeds went down a little bit during the day but still outperformed the others. I know that the LVCC has a DAS but I am not able to say if Sprint got to upgrade it. What I can tell you is that the average dbm was between -67dbm and -90dbm.

That's pretty strong for indoor B41 based on my experience.

As far as I know, Sprint does not bring any COW's to Vegas. As for DAS, I do believe there is one at the LVCC. There are also a few Macrosites that serve the Convention Center, and some of those have been upgraded.

Nothing inside the LVCC has been upgraded that I know of.

Yes, those are strong, but there is a macrosite or 3 nearby, and any of them or all of them could be broadcasting Band 41 LTE. I would have to confirm that.

DAS or no DAS, either way that kind of signal is great news. I often have to get work done on the convention floor.

    • The March Play System Update that PythonFan referred to in the S24 thread is also out for S22
    • Has anyone checked Verizon n77 in areas with more than 100MHZ active? This spectrum has been fully available since August of last year.  Of course they are not typically using SA.
    • I updated my other s21 ultra factory unlocked to the latest firmware... It behaves like the S24 Ultra n38 or n41 depending on 80 or 100MHz or their nr- arfcn.
    • I see everything correct. The two ARFCN's you mentioned earlier and they idenitify as n-41.  using 4.832b SCP. Only using one TM SIM.
    • I posted this in the Nebraska Premier thread last week, but just wanted to share in this thread the progress that T-Mobile has made in filling in the great coverage gap known as Nebraska. Between late last year and this year, they have added 28 new expansion sites filling in the coverage hole, plus 11 Sprint site conversions in eastern Nebraska and far western Iowa. Notably, in the last month n41 coverage was added on over a dozen expansion sites in western Nebraska that were added to the network last year. For comparison, here is the very first map that I created in October of 2022 after we noted expansion sites outside of Sprint conversion in Lincoln and Omaha. It doesn't show any western parts of the state, but just know there was nothing besides roaming coverage and a little B12 coverage leaking down from South Dakota to the west of Valentine, NE.
