Permitting is a local issue, not national.

Sprint has shown support for net neutrality, so I doubt they're lobbying to get rid of it.

FCC did affect local permitting, and that's one reason Mobilitie feels as empowered as they are, deploying in non-zoned and government locations.

Hard to not speculate when you trumpet such a big decision alongside the newly president elect.

Something is brewing.

Maybe Sprint wants to get the contract for First Net. So they can have access to the government slice of 700mhz spectrum so that they can expand their foot print.

How likely is that?

They did not apply. AT&T is one of the finalists and the most likely winner. Verizon is the other.

Too much speculation going on here, let's just take things day by day lol

That's why we have forums so we can speculate. Otherwise these forums would be boring! If we can't speculate and bash Sprint what is this site good for?  :P

Permitting is a local issue, Trump has nothing to do with it.

One thing he could do is shorten the "Shot Clock" to force an answer faster.  Claim technology has increased so that they can review things faster and cut the time in half. That is more probable than any merger of the big 4.

That's the problem here, there are some that keep speculating merger when it isn't in the picture. The business environment is about to change where even a 2 percent drop in the corporate tax rate would spur on hiring. Changes in the tax code and killing Obamacare aka affordable Care like there's a OXY moron of I ever seen it could get repealed and save companies money in which they could hire. Spend more on company infrastructure. Improve the network greatly. There is no merger happening for at least a couple of years. The merger people are the same ones that are saying 600 MHz will be a panacea and that's turning out to be a crook. Get your heads away from mergers, you will only disappoint yourself again.

Totally agree with u 100%. All this speculation about a merger just because we think trump "owes us one" is nonsense just because 5k jobs were brought back. I think if it was this easy to get a favor, I am damn sure VZ, ATT and Tmo will follow suit. Mergers are a very big deal and need to be considered wisely. There are no takebacks if things go south post merger. Do we really think a merger is in the best interest for all of us? Who would run the new SprinTmo company and the rest of the leadership team?

The T-Mobile team.

You think Masa is really going to dump the entire sprint leadership team for tmobiles leadership? If u are marcelo or any of the sprint leadership team, why would u want this? I agree with u that it should be the tmobile leadership team that runs sprintmo.

No politician truly "cares" about the merger, it's just what benefits them the most. Hillary could care less as long as son put a nice chunk of $$$ somewhere she could eventually get to. Same with Trump...

Like the Clinton Foundation  sorry I couldn't help myself.

I forget if it was last year or this year, but the FCC passed a rule requiring localities to approve permitting requests within x number of days of filing unless they can provide a good reason not to (RF safety is not one of the "good reasons" as long as it complies with FCC rules).  If no approval is provided, it is deemed granted.

As noted elsewhere, that rule could be modified further.

Tell that to San Fran, Berkeley and every high priced suburb in the US.

I'm sure they're aware.

They seem to flaunt those rules and dare you to take them to court.

And how many where blocked in courts? 1 Maybe.

You can't stop a tower because of health reasons and you have to grant new technologies access both are federal laws.  The only way to block a site is the way it looks with small cells now you can't even block them for that reason. The only thing locals can do is limit height and some placement rules. The federal government could pass a law like Ohio just did and limit locals on placement rules then all they have is height limit rules.

Let's keep from getting overtly political with this. Of course, a political discussion is allowed when it is specific to Sprint and telecommunications policy, etc. However, please keep it from getting partisan or vitriolic.

And it is OK to speculate on subjects. Just make sure to use some rational explanation to back it up why you believe it could happen. Otherwise you open yourself to a lot of critical analysis.

That's exactly what I was getting at.

However, there's no way to know if the same announcement would have happened had there been a different election result.

Sprint would probably try to work with any administration to make its business more competitive. Of course, the question is how much of Sprint's outreach is reciprocated by the administration.

Quick question:

When I look at OpenSignal Sprint's 3g/lte map, its coverage map is about 20% more extensive than Tmobile's 3g/lte map.  But upon removal 3g from the map, Sprint's lte coverage is slightly less than tmobile's.  Is it fair to say that many Sprint's towers are still 3g and not yet converted to lte? If that is true, what are the reasons for not having these sites converted to lte? lack of backhaul, equipments?
