Forum Newbie, please be gentle.....

 

Is there a map that will list Sprint towers in a particular area?  I'd like to know where the towers in my area are, how to check them out, etc.  With Sprint sucking bad in my area, I'm contemplating leaving them.  But, if I can get an idea of where towers are, and find out what sort of upgrades if any have been done, I might find a way to convince myself to stay! (I'd almost hate to go back to Verizon!)

Let me be the first to say, Welcome to S4GRU. We do offer maps that show where sites are in your area as well as other maps that show the progress of Sprint Network Vision upgrades in your area. Sacramento is definitely not in the best place right now, but take it from someone in sf (the other most behind market on the west coast) things get much better.

As mentioned above, look at the FAQ and in my sig is the directory of maps. Some are accessible, while others are accessible only if you are a sponsor, 

 

Read, post and learn, but have fun doing it.

For what you get, the price of the maps is very cheap.  It's really cool to be able to watch progress happen almost live.

 

Also, it's an interesting study in network design, at least if you know the areas and their population densities.

Yep, that's the public site. Doesn't show every site. Just ones that have received some sort of enhancement in the past six months. And Sprint doesn't provide details.

 

S4GRU sponsor maps are color coded and show exactly what kind of 3G/4G upgrades have occurred, and data about each site. Like Site ID numbers, switch locations, markets, etc. Also, our maps get updated every couple of days and show exactly what changed from the last update. Best for tracking Network Vision/LTE deployment.

I agree the public site is VERY generic, and its map is blah at best lol.  I love how you have yours color coded and all, its been very helpful ever since I have been a member of your awesome site!

      Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.

      Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.

      Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
