Current & Coming Soon Sprint Communities - LTE Status

Recommended Posts

I put together a map of cities where Sprint has already announced LTE, and the communities that Sprint has announced will have LTE soon. I have also marked the cities that have LTE available in the area, but are not yet launched. These are marked as Pre-Launch cities. In total, there are about 570 cities or communities that have LTE or are slated to receive LTE soon.I will update the map as more cities are launched, or Sprint adds more cities to the coming soon list.

Current & Coming Soon Sprint Communities - LTE Status

KEY:

Coming Soon: Sprint has announced LTE will be coming in the next several months

Launched: Sprint has formally announced LTE in this area

Pre-Launch: This city has been announced by Sprint, LTE is available, but not formally launched.

LTE Available: This city has not been announced, but LTE is available in some locations.

Very cool and awesome work.... But I do take offense that Mooresville and Statesville, NC combo Mooresville is not Statesville and Statesville is not Mooresville.. The only thing they have in common is that they are in the same county and both are on I77...Same really goes for Durham/Chapped Hole (different sides of the Interstate - and not to mention the gang sports rivalry) and then Cary/Raleigh (although the are more attached than anything else, Cary would like to disavow Raleigh and Raleigh wants Cary's Tax base LOL!)

Anyone not from these areas would probably care less about but from those of us that have grown up in them, it is big deal.. in any case, rattling chains :) and you are just working from document that probably show them combined, but really they aren't....

Look forward to future updates!

They were listed together, but I went back and broke them into individual cities so that they could have their own pin. The description that you see when you click is how Sprint lists them. Not sure how they come up with their combinations. Happens like that all over the place.

Not to be pedantic but the Philly market will probably launch many outlying areas before Philly. I'd add Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton at the very least.

Agreed. But these locations are based solely off of Sprint documents. When they announce additional cities around Philly, I'll add them on. I could guess and just stick random locations in there, but I'd rather not.

Ah, I see your point. It is odd that much work has been done in the areas around Philly but none of the lists have included them.

You have to look at it in areas man, especially cities like Statesville and Mooresville. If they grouped Kannapolis, Concord, and Harrisburg all together, I wouldn't think twice about it, b/c it's the same general area. I'm really hoping Kannapolis and the rest of Cabarrus county are all going to be lopped in with Salisbury and/or Charlotte for that matter.

Nice job on the map!

Some locations get announced many months before hand, some show up on the list less than a month before launch, so it's really anyone's guess when more get added to the list. I do expect a few more communities to be officially launched for LTE within the next 7 days.

From what I've seen in other areas, I would expect that Kannapolis, Concord, Huntersville and Harrisburg etc areas all fall under the Charlotte umbrella.

Yeah, figured as much.. Again kudos for the work! I just love how marketing lumps all these little cities into one Metro Area, or what ever they call them these days.

I took a trip to another iDEN site today and you can see what I found below. I used the pics from the American tower site as they are better than what I took. Everything is still the same as the pics on their site. The site is also using communications from the local fiber provider (Cass Communications). That is a recent change as they were not the provider not that long ago.

Info from the American Tower Site:

Site Name:PRATHER IL

Site Number:274044

The Sprint site in Rushville, IL. These pics are also from the American Tower site as they seem to take great pics. Nothing has been done yet but these provide a great reference point.

Perhaps Sprint is on another level, but those are not Sprint legacy nor NV panels.

Now for a tower that has a mess of panels and cables. This too is an AT site but unlike the others it has several carriers. I will post a few pics but also provide the link as they have a lot of pics of the site. You can play name the panels with these pics.

There is no other level...this is at the address I have from when iPCS deployed the tower. I have the maps from iPCS birthing announcements and this is the tower given in those.

Edit: iPCS did use different panels compared to Sprint. This was one of the last sites iPCS installed before Sprint took over. It was thrown up in a hurry and probably used leftover parts from the iPCS panel bin. I will go check a few other places to see but there are a very limited number of towers in the city.

Got to thinking they may have just used that site in the announcement as it is right along the main highway. You are probably right that it is a different tower. That is how iPCS operated. I had to tell them what was needed on their network as they couldn't figure out a handoff issue. The problem was the other towers needed the neighbor tower list updated. I wouldn't think that would be hard to figure out but maybe so.

If you are interested the tower I'm looking for is AW344821

I figure iPCS won't care if I give out some of the information they shared with me.

Site 821 is a ’08 carryover site and is the last of the footprint expansion sites in west-central IL

What is the tower location? We can check it against the maps that we have that contain all of Sprint's towers nationwide.

These are the types of panels I would expect to see with a Sprint site.

It was misplaced on some of the maps provided. The ones with actual signal propagation do show the correct location. The others have the wrong location. Thank you Dkoellerwx for your knowledge. Unfortunately where the tower likely sited is on a private road. It is a very short tower that just peeks its panels over the top of the trees. That explains why the propagation maps show no signal just a few miles from the tower. Bad thing is the signal does cover the main roads which is what was one of the objectives. The other towers are a mixed bag with propagation. One is on a flat open area and is even worse. Signal barely goes about 3 miles, I think it is low on the tower. I will probably venture out tomorrow and get picks of it. One upside to having a camera with great zooming capabilities.

What is the deal with those iDEN antennas? I guess I haven't seen them use omni-directional antennas before. Does anyone know how often they use the omni gear? I am keeping an eye on the iDEN towers as they have been running fiber to some of them in the area. As Nextel is the only one on the tower I don't see that as needing fiber so maybe, just maybe it is one of the select few to get converted over. I posted a few weeks ago that Sprint sent a brochure touting increased coverage coming soon for this area.

I have seen omni quite a few times around here.

WOW...What happen to the Las Vegas market we must be low rent in this end of the world lol !!!

Work has been confirmed in the Las Vegas market, however it is easier to complete the smaller towns first. It will probably be another few weeks to a month before more Las Vegas market cities are announced.
