S4GRU
Although the Winston/Salem market is a later 4th Round market. Activity should begin soon in Mid 2013 from vendor Alcatel/Lucent. I am creating this thread as a placeholder for our members to discuss Sprint Network Vision deployment in the Winston/Salem market.
TraumA
I work for a Sprint store in the Winston Salem Market and talked with a representative from Alcatel Lucent about the Winston Salem market which includes Greensboro, Winston Salem, Burlington, High Point, and other surrounding cities. He informed me that this area will get a test run of about 14 towers in about 2 weeks but the full deployment will be started around the first of the year (2014). That is a big delay from the August - September we have been told for the start of the full deployment but I am glad I have finally heard some hard facts for this market.
Paynefanbro
I am doubtful about that. Do you think he means that the deployment won't be complete until then? I don't see how they'll only do 14 test towers and then wait until next year to do the rest of the market.

But considering that Charlotte and Raleigh are still not complete I cannot imagine this market could be 100% by the first of the year. Paynefanbro
Seems to me like Greensboro and its surrounding areas have a bit more tower spacing which could explain how they'd be able to get it done faster. But it isn't like there is a certain pace that cities have, for instance a market could have over 100 updates in 2 weeks or under 10. But it isn't like there is a certain pace that cities have, for instance a market could have over 100 updates in 2 weeks or under 10. This is very true. The strangest thing about this is that I talked with someone that was with Ericsson about 2 months ago and they confirmed that the network updates would start in September when they were contracted to do it. The rep I talked to said that Ericsson no longer has this contract. Any ideas what happened and why Alcatel Lucent has taken over? Could that explain the delay? Paynefanbro
Alcatel Lucent is in charge of upgrading the sites but Ericsson is in charge of maintenance of the sites and band-aid fixes after the site has been upgraded.

S4GRU
I work for a Sprint store in the Winston Salem Market and talked with a representative from Alcatel Lucent about the Winston Salem market which includes Greensboro, Winston Salem, Burlington, High Point, and other surrounding cities. He informed me that this area will get a test run of about 14 towers in about 2 weeks but the full deployment will be started around the first of the year (2014). That is a big delay from the August - September we have been told for the start of the full deployment but I am glad I have finally heard some hard facts for this market. Alcatel Lucent was always the Network Vision vendor for this market. And Winston Salem was always going to be one of the last markets to start. Ericsson has the Network Maintenance contract, not NV deployment contract in your area. It is most likely there are 14 sites under way now, and then deployment will continue after them and the market will wrap up in the first quarter of 2014. If for some reason, it does end up happening like you say, it will be the only one of Sprint's 97 markets that went that way. There probably in some confusion in the communication chain. Another thing that it could be, is that in general, AlcaLu tends to deploy 3G first for manymonths, then comes back and does the 4G LTE light ups. So this may be what they're referring to. However, in the Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte markets, AlcaLu bucked the trend and did 4G LTE first. I guess we will know what's up soon on the NV Sites Complete maps over the Sponsor section. Every time Sprint accepts a site, S4GRU finds out and we update our Sponsor maps to show them. Robert
TraumA
My Samsung Galaxy S 4 got a very brief LTE signal while in Winston Salem, NC. This must be one of the first 14 test towers that I was told about by an Alcatel Lucent worker about 3 weeks ago.
raptoro07
My Samsung Galaxy S 4 got a very brief LTE signal while in Winston Salem, NC. This must be one of the first 14 test towers that I was told about by an Alcatel Lucent worker about 3 weeks ago. I was having some data issues this afternoon around 5pm. I did a reboot and when I did I had LTE for around 5 minutes. This is near Business 85 and 311 in High Point. I was pulling around 8-9 mbps on my One. I didn't have any data the rest of the evening till around 8pm. When I saw that LTE light up and actually work I nearly crapped myself. I've been sooooo waiting to get LTE in the GSO/WS/HP market. Woo!
johnnygn2
I got 23 down and 8 up from the test tower on Robinhood.
MissKameron
I work in Winston and live in Greensboro. I do remember either Tuesday I was coming home on Bus. 40 and I ran into a spot that had LTE for a brief 3 minutes and it went away. I ALMOST LOST MY CAR AND MY MIND when I saw it come on my phone! I was like FINALLY after all these payments I've made and ever since I got my iPhone we finally got it here, but then it went away but that just assures me that IT'S COMING SOONER THAN EXPECTED!! TraumA
Make sure everyone is running Sensorly when you get it or drive around the areas you think it may be. I am keeping an eye on it every day to see how it is playing out. It looks like so far Winston Salem and possibly parts of High point are the only areas getting the test towers. Greensboro and Burlington are still in the dark for now.
Kowskaa
Looks like four were up as of this morning, be nice to see them do a bit more than that each week, with this area seeming to be much smaller than the other two markets in the state, I hope it gets completed on a quicker time table. jaylexus
I had LTE for 10 minutes until I stopped drinking and then it went away. Guess I need to start back drinking, huh?
unccjester
I was coming back from the Raleigh area and mapped the area around I-74 & I-85. I only caught it because I randomly decided to reset my data connection while running Signal Check and was already running Sensorly. I did a speed test about a 1/2 mile south of I-74 and got 8 down and 3.3 up... My RSRP at that point was almost -100, so not bad.

From what I was told by the rep at Alcatel Lucent this is a more complicated market due to the fact that every tower has much older equipment and all of them will need to be completely overhauled. Hopefully he was exaggerating but my Service and Repair Rep for Sprint confirmed this.

The network vision project replaces everything from end to end.
tonyrgreen
Thanks for setting up this site up for the Winston-Salem market and thanks for the users' heads up on Sensorly. Looks like the Meadowlark/Robinhood area is the place to be for the test towers. I'm not too far away, so I'm going to try and go by there tomorrow to see how my new S4 handles it. Not sure where the idea that these are "test towers" came from. This is the beginning of the buildout! We should see a steady stream of completed towers, at least a few every weeks, hopefully more, until the market is complete. Should start to see LTE light up in more and more places over the next few weeks.

We should see a steady stream of completed towers, at least a few every weeks, hopefully more, until the market is complete. Should start to see LTE light up in more and more places over the next few weeks. That idea came from the Alcatel Lucent guy I talked to. He came in to activate a few LG Viper's to use for testing. Badge said AL, the big black cases that carried the Viper's said AL, and his truck said AL. He was there to activate these Vipers so he can use it to test real time speeds from an actual device on Sprint. His words were that they were putting up 14 towers in the area to test with. Whether he was really that informed is up to anyone's guess I was just quoting what he said originally.
digiblur
Seems odd for them to come into a store with all the connections they have with internal sprint systems. I don't even need to go into a store to activate a phone.

I went to a known tower and was darn near out of its range before my phones (Note 2 and iPhone 5) switched over. I decided to pick up a vehicle mount for my Note after nearly driving off of the road looking for towers, lol.
