Alcatel-Lucent 1900MHz RRU Deployment Question

Recommended Posts

I've noticed some sites in Tucson are being set up with 2 RRUs per sector, while others are receiving only one RRU per sector. Was it ever determined if current Alca-lu RRUs can run CDMA+LTE? Are they possibly skipping LTE deployment on otherwise full-build sites?

Yes, AlcaLu re-certified their RRU's for dual-mode CDMA/LTE about 2 months ago, so don't be surprised that you only see 1 1900MHz RRU per sector.

That's correct. A low capacity site in Tucson could have as few as one RRU per sector. It will not receive a second RRU until either 800 is approved for use or they needed more than four LTE/CDMA carriers combined on the site. The AlcaLu 800 and 1900 RRU's both run CDMA and LTE together.

So if AlcaLu's RRUs can run both modes, can the other OEM provider's equipment do the same?

In the beginning, only Samsung could run both CDMA and LTE on the same RRU. Now all three OEM's can do that.

But yet I see Ericsson still rolling out 4 RRUs on sites. Not going to complain one bit though as that just makes things easier in the future.
