Pryroscott, We had wimax through Clear wireless in Hawaii for sometime before sprint launched it as their 4g platform. Also, why do you speak of Banning people just because we/I are inquiring about LTE? Where in this thread am I coming across to you as complaining? I for one think people who quote other's post and make a comment That is not even about or contribute to the thread at hand Should be banned? Agreed? Sent from my Coconut Wireless

I don't think you fully understood his response. He wasn't saying someone should be banned for asking about LTE. He also wasn't saying you should be banned. And he also happens to be site staff, a moderator, so I wouldn't encourage banning him.

I meant the other islands got Wimax toward the end. Was thinking of one thing and typing out another.

Virtualbot,

Are you speaking about wimax

With sprint or through Clear wireless?

Because, yes I agree if you were referring wimax through Sprint.

I do know though.... We had clear

Wireless 4g(wimax) for some time before the Evo4g came out for Sprint.

Yes I was referring to Sprint Wimax, since Clear was only based in the Honolulu area at the time which is probably the reason you had it before you got Evo4G. At that time, I was living Kailua, so it took way more time for any upgrade to swing over there. Friends from the other islands weren't so fortunate since some of them never even got Wimax where they live and was spotty at best.

I'm sure pyroscott was making an opinion. I don't think HawaiiD was complaining, etc., but there are others around the forum who do whine and complain about the LTE rollout not moving to their neighborhood at their speed. :P

Clearwire launched their first WiMax market in January 2009. Not quite what I would consider "years" before Sprint unveiled the EVO, but a while, indeed.

Inquiring is fine, but complaining is another thing. I read every post on this site and I remember the members who are continually skirting the line between complaining and "asking questions."

Yes, I was stating an opinion. I know there are a lot of members in 3G only areas that would LOVE to have WiMax right now. (looking at you, Detroit, Phoenix, every rural area in US)

Sony very rarely makes CDMA phones for the US. I think the last was Xperia Play for VZW.

You know Robert, I can't believe

Sprint has let their data speeds

Go to the ground here. I remember

Just last summer 3g could get upwards of 2mbs DL. Now 100-300kbs is the norm.

I can no longer stream anything with out buffering every 5 seconds.

Wimax is ok, but if you move 10 feet to the right or left it drops the signal. And walk into a building?

That's a guaranteed drop of signal.

When you say no announcement soon? More than 6 months? A year?

Any suggestions on how to speed

Up my data speeds Robert?

This is today's speeds. I called sprint csr and they said that the towers in my location are working fine? Btw, I am at a shopping mall outdoors.

There is no way. You may need to get an inexpensive WiMax hotspot to help you in the interim.

Also, do you know why

My voice signal shows full bars.

And why my data is at 1x?

I see it bounce between 3g and 1x a lot now. I rarely used to see 1x

Thanks

Ahh...

Spirit says all towers around my location were working fine?

At least wifi at home makes it bearable

Saying a site is working fine is not a contradiction to it having too much traffic. I'd call and insist on opening a ticket on the site.

Robert this is about 10 miles from my work Place. From where the other speed test were taken. I think Honolulu in general is just slow

The entire legacy network is overwhelmed. Network Vision, additional capacity and backhaul are required to right the ship. It is going to be painful the next few months until AlcaLu gets started on Oahu.

Damn I'm visiting HNL next week. Speeds look bleak. And hotel wifi is pricey. Any good wifi spots in town? Any tips?

Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

Speeds are hit and miss you can sometimes get lucky.

Forget YouTube and Netflix streaming over 3g.

If you have an old evo with wimax? You can sometimes get decent speeds if your standing still.

Wifi pretty much all over the place. Only thing is if it is offered for free say like I place like mcdonald's?

You will need to get a password from the cashier.

Apple stores at the major malls have free unsecured wifi. Most hotels I think now offer free wifi or wifi service in included with a resort fee per day.

Aloha.

Aloha Robert,

April, is among us now. Speeds in Hawaii

Continue to be very slow. Have you got any information if any? Regarding NV in Hawaii?

My OG evo is still chugging away. But

The newer phones I.E. the s3 are making

My evo look like a 78 Granada. So I am really

Itching to upgrade. The htc one on t mobile

Is looking mighty attractive

    • Definite usage quirks in hunting down these sites with a rainbow sim in a s24 ultra. Fell into a hole yesterday so sent off to T-Mobile purgatory. Try my various techniques. No Dish. Get within binocular range of former Sprint colocation and can see Dish equipment. Try to manually set network and everybody but no Dish is listed.  Airplane mode, restart, turn on and off sim, still no Dish. Pull upto 200ft from site straight on with antenna.  Still no Dish. Get to manual network hunting again on phone, power off phone for two minutes. Finally see Dish in manual network selection and choose it. Great signal as expected. I still think the 15 minute rule might work but lack patience. (With Sprint years ago, while roaming on AT&T, the phone would check for Sprint about every fifteen minutes. So at highway speed you could get to about the third Sprint site before roaming would end). Using both cellmapper and signalcheck.net maps to hunt down these sites. Cellmapper response is almost immediate these days (was taking weeks many months ago).  Their idea of where a site can be is often many miles apart. Of course not the same dataset. Also different ideas as how to label a site, but sector details can match with enough data (mimo makes this hard with its many sectors). Dish was using county spacing in a flat suburban area, but is now denser in a hilly richer suburban area.  Likely density of customers makes no difference as a poorer urban area with likely more Dish customers still has country spacing of sites.
    • Mike if you need more Dish data, I have been hunting down sites in western Columbus.  So far just n70 and n71 reporting although I CA all three.
    • Good catch! I meant 115932/119932. Edited my original post I've noticed the same thing lately and have just assumed that they're skipping it now because they're finally able to deploy mmWave small cells.
    • At some point over the weekend, T-Mobile bumped the Omaha metro from 100+40 to 100+90 of n41! That's a pretty large increase from what we had just a few weeks ago when we were sitting at 80+40Mhz. Out of curiosity, tested a site on my way to work and pulled 1.4Gpbs. That's the fastest I've ever gotten on T-Mobile! For those that know Omaha, this was on Dodge street in Midtown so not exactly a quiet area!
