  1. It seems like Sprint is putting LTE in all the states around Ohio and not in Ohio except for the 1 tower in Cleveland. Anyone heard a reason why it has not started in Ohio
  2. As I live about twenty minutes from Boston, I venture to boston once a while, as bordering Lowell, I sometimes get 4g WiMax if I go near the border of Lowell/Tewksbury.... As there is a cell phone tower next to my house i'd be hoping it could get LTE, which is highly unlikely. I'm just curious when Boston area will get their upgrade... I understand its in the first roll-out stage, im just curious about the date P.S Boston has WiMax if some may not know.
  3. does anybody know when sprint will rollout 4G in san diego? i've apoken to a couple of reps and they told me by the end of this year. but i dont really believe that. does anybody have more reliable information?
  4. i wanted to know what round will maryland be in and is nv going underway in this market right now i have seen speeds 1.5 to 2 megs down consistantly before it was under 600 kps so i wanted to ask
  5. Hey Everyone I apologize in advanced if there is a thread for this. I looked (yes, even with search) to find a thread regarding the south bay market. I am certain there is one since there was a topic regarding the first LTE sightings in Palo Alto and Cupertino, California. Anyways. I just wanted to know if there are any new updates to NV for these areas. Specificially for Salinas, CA and King City CA (zip codes: 93905,93906, 93901,93930) I ask because I have debated on either switching completely to T-Mobile or just suspend my Sprint line for 6 months and wish for the best at the end of that timeframe. Just pure drama right now with Sprint Tech Support.
  6. Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone had any idea on when the LTE upgrades would happen in St. Louis? I have been a loyal sprint customer for a long time and just realized that my 3G speeds are around 120kbps and that is horrible! Also 4G is around 1-2mb! I work right in the middle of STL and these are the speeds I get? I am excited about the new LTE and cant wait but I am hoping for a nice 3g speed increase too.....
  7. Was in olathe, ks and by 5 nv towers and had almost no luck with lte. Did have 4g pop on for 2 seconds and before I could launch a speedtest went to 3g, then back to 4g one more time then 3g. This was on santa fe between kansas ave and hwy 7. Try more parts of kc next Sunday.
  8. I'm here looking for answers to a simple question. Where is this mystery Sprint signal coming from? For the past few weeks I've received a signal on multiple Sprint devices, two Sprint devices with roaming turned off, and two Virgin Mobile phones and Virgin Mobile phones can't roam, the other rate plans might be able but I'm talk about Virgin Mobile devices from before they introduced all those other plans. What I'm making clear is these devices have to be picking up a Sprint signal, plus I've downloaded the SignalCheck Pro app which has indicated two different signals 1XRTT and 1X800. The signal only last for about 8 hours each morning and begins coming in and out towards the end of each morning. I try making a call and it fails, and it doesn't get any data at all. I try each device and they all do the same thing they have a signal and very strong signal with no data, and voice doesn't go threw, I haven't tried sending a text figured no data, no voice then there must be no text. I read about some "projects" that Sprint has going on Project Ocean and Project Cedar. Since Project Ocean is suppose to be taking place in Missouri and I live so close to the Iowa, Missouri line, I figured if there is a tower going up maybe it is possible I'm getting a signal from it, in the early stages. I really don't know what is going on, if Sprint is launching service, putting up new towers and that signal finally comes, and stays, and works. I'll be back full time on the Sprint ban wagon. Unfortunately, I live in an area not served by (according to experience and coverage map) Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Not even the two Iowa carriers i Wireless or Chat Mobility serve my area, go 10, 15 or 20 miles in any direction your good, here, wireless dead zone, no choice of carriers. And if Sprint puts a tower here if I finally get an answer and learn that signal will soon come and stay and work I'll finally have a choice. So if anyone has any ideas, has experienced this in other parts of the country or has any idea what could be going on please say. Any information is better than not knowing, and together maybe this will be answered.
  9. Did you know that with many Sprint (Uniband) LTE Android devices, the signal strength indicator at the top does not show your LTE signal strength? Even if 4G or LTE is displayed next to it? That's right! This signal displayed here is your 1x (voice signal), and it is not your 3G EVDO signal strength, nor your LTE signal strength. Regardless of whether it says 3G or 4G next to it. This is the cause of a lot of confusion. Also, third party apps like NetMonitor do not show accurate LTE signal strengths. They also only show the 1x signal strength, even though they may reference being connected to LTE. The purpose of this thread is to help educate the masses, because many people think they have a strong LTE signal, when in fact they do not. And then they are unhappy, thinking that Sprint LTE is really slow, even with a strong signal. LTE performance is very signal strength dependent. So, when you have a weak signal, you can expect much slower than peak results. There is only one accurate way to get your LTE signal strength, and that is from your LTE Engineering screen in your Debug menu. And we will discuss the different ways to get that below. ...In HTC, Motorola & LG Sprint LTE devices: Go in to your phone app, and dial ##DEBUG# Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number under RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. ...In Samsung Sprint LTE devices: Go in to your phone app, and dial ##DEBUG# Enter 777468 for your lock code Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number next to RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. ...In the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5: Go in to your phone app, and dial *#*#DEBUG#*#* Enter 777468 for your lock code Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number next to RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. The LTE Signal Strength Scale: Now you have determined your actual LTE signal strength in dBms your device is receiving, you can use the following scale below to determine its strength: Better than -88dBm RSRP is a strong signal Between -89dBm and -96dBm is a very good signal Between -97dBm and -105dBm is good Between -106dBm and -112dBm is fair Worse than -113dBm RSRP is poor Feel free to link people to this thread for explanation. Hopefully, this will clear up some confusion out there!
  10. I was in the zip codes of 33993 and 33991 today and did some speed tests on speedtest.net I got speeds of about .8 Mbps with peek rates of 1 Mbps. I tried to upload pictures but the uploader said files were to large but even though they were below the maximum file size
  11. When will the North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, & Wilmington) areas start with LTE Network Vision? When will we expect coverage in the area? Also, how good will this Advance 3G be when revised for better data speed coverage?
  12. Today FreedomPop announced the availability of the MiFi 500 (the tri-band one...they just call it by the internal model number rather than the marketing model number) on their service. This includes the free 500MB data option, as well as the more expensive plans (e.g. 2GB for $20). The device itself is $150. They're offering a couple of promotions right now that net you 3GB at no additional charge (beyond the device cost) for the first month. I'm trying to pick one up but am having issues getting their website to let me order anything. For folks who want to try out TD-LTE/LTE in 800 and don't want to sign a contract/don't need 3GB of data on their hotspot and don't want to pay $35+ per month as a result, this works. And the 500MB plan (400MB if you don't want the possibility of paying overages) is enough for occasional access...and it's free!
  13. Here are the Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) Network Vision equipment for Sprint. Their equipment consists of 2x base stations, 6 or 9 Remote Radio Unit (RRU) setups, and 1 standard NV antenna of with connectors on the bottom (4x PCS, 2x SMR). Below are images of Alcatel-Lucent equipment. In these images, you will find Alcatel-Lucent base stations, Sprint Network Vision antennas, PCS 1900 & SMR 800 RRUs, and their configurations. 14. Hey guys I have a question hopefully someone can answer it for me today at sprint I went to buy a cover and screen protector for my new Samsung galaxy nexus while they were putting everything on the phone I had asked when were we gonna get lte knowing that sprint hasn't said anything about lte in the valley. To my surprise he said we might get it very soon because sprint has technicians down here in the valley because of a recent hailstorm (hail in the valley haha right but it happened)he said sprint was going to kill two birds with one stone and not only fix the towers but also install the lte so they don't have to make another trip back here. Does this sound right at all any help will be appreciated. Btw the Rio Grande valley is the bottom part of Texas edinburg mcallen harlingen Brownsville area thanks guys
  15. So I picked up the Wilson 4g 460007(also referred to as 460107). Got it for under $100 at best buy (price match). I checked the specs which does not cover Sprint b25,b26,or b41 LTE. But I have actually seen an increase in coverage and usable signal in areas with almost no signal. How is that possible on b26, if the device specs state 824-869mhz regarding band 26? http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=3610007&pid=1219092581508&pcatId=abcat0811002 https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=304712&fcc_id=PWO460007 Edit New link added: http://www.wilsonamplifiers.com/wilson-sleek-4g-23db-amplifier-kit-460107/
  16. I picked up a wilson signal booster at bestbuy for $250, normally $399. I am going to attempt a setup and see how well it performs. I will try a window, and hopefully pole setup. I have a tall old tv antenna running up the side of my house. I hope i can get high enough (scared of heights) to get good reception. This is going to be for testing purposes. Any suggestions for these types of installs?
  17. Been checking my phone lately and i found that it was connecting to CDMA eHRPD. For all of you that are new to this, eHRPD is used generally on CDMA carriers to allow a smooth transition from EVDO to LTE technologies. Im starting this topic to see how many of you guys out there have access to eHRPD. Also, when using eHRPD, instead of the data at the tower going through the CDMA switchboard, it goes through the LTE core instead. Maybe not much of a noticable speed increase, but eHRPD may be faster when the CDMA switchboard is reaching full capacity. Anyways, if anyone ever has any questions related to this, comment on this post or send me a message. I have an acceptable level of knowledge with networking and infastructures. Everyone else, post here if you do have access to an eHRPD enabled cell site. This can be checked by going to settings, about phone, then look for the network status option where from there, it will tell you the signal strength in dBm, the ASU, and the network type.
  18. Hello, Can somebody test this fieldtest/netmonitor android app on LTE and tell how it works. Here is the link to Google Play: G-NetTrack Short description and screenshots: This is a fieldtest/netmonitor application for UMTS/GSM/LTE/CDMA/EVDO network. The application monitors the serving CELLID, LEVEL, QUAL, MCC, MNC, LAC, technology, cell serving time and neighbor cells CELLID/PSC and LEVEL.
  19. So I saw this, and saw they plan on having 100Mbps wireless network. They mentioned Volte in 2015. Maybe a sign for Sprint to rollout Volte in 2015. http://www.vermontbiz.com/news/june/vtel-wireless-deal-sprint-will-help-bring-100-megabits-second-vermonters
  20. So, I am posting a suggestion as to maybe scheduling some times to get together in, "The Lounge" to discuss certain topics. I'm an amateur radio operator and we call these over the radio "Nets" You have one person as the control operator for the discussion, and each person takes their turn to discuss. (It doesn't have to be this controlled). But throw out a topic (Related to Topics within S4GRU) And we all get together at that time and discuss. We can have several topics to discuss through out the week. I know alot of us are on daily. Think It would be a cool idea. If anyone is interested, I can throw something together and present it to the admin/staff. Thoughts? Kris
  21. I got an email this afternoon about the FreedomPop Freedom Spot Photon Platinum hotspot on sale for $19.99 with Free Shipping. I'm curious if anyone knows/has heard what LTE bands this device is running on? If it's anything like the MiFi 500, I'll sell my MiFi, pay my ETF with Sprint, and just casually use the FreedomPop instead. Thanks!
  22. With the FCC and Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon have agreed to this new unlocking policy. How does this effect sprint phones such as the IPhone. I have heard that Sprint can unlock your phone but you can not take it to other carriers such as Verizon and the IPhone can only be used overseas. (Correct me if I am wrong). I am glad that this has finally happened. But when it comes to Sprint how would this work?
  23. Ever since I have my LG G2, I noticed that the LTE signal is very week yet the 3G signal from the same tower is fully available on 1900 Mhz. This is not just one tower, I noticed this all over Las Vegas. Could this be related to the LTE not being fully deployed / under construction? I have seen this on most towers that have been listed as 3G/800/4G. Has anybody noticed the same issue?
  24. I'm a former sprint customer, and recently moved to T-mobile. The main reason I moved to T-mobile had to do with the speed of the network from the speed testing websites, and they seemed to be more reliable. The second resons was that it was on GSM network which would allow for International roaming when abroad. However, I've found that when T-mobile is available it is fast, but lacks indoor penetration, something I notieced of Sprint as well, it also is not available everywhere such as sprint overall coverage. So I am now thinking of switching back to sprint because I live in Indiana and travel a lot on the road, which requires coverage that is not readily provided by T-mobile. My question, if and when Sprint moves LTE to 800mhz and 2.5Ghz, are new phones required to take advantage of that frequency or will the Moto X and Iphone 5s work on those bands? Secondly, I read that Verizon will be shutting down its CDMA network sometime next year and move to Voicelte, I'm thinking this will effect Sprint coverage since I'm sure they use their network at times. Any thoughts on that or has Sprint also announced moving to Voice over LTE? My main concern was with speed of the network, which when I have coverage with T-mobile, is much slower than Sprint (my wife still has sprint). I'm not sure I understand why the network is slower on Sprint and whether that will improve over time specfiically in Indianapolis. I appreciate any feedback so that I might move back to Sprint for the best long-term viability.
  25. I'm looking at putting a couple antennas in my home. I all ready have an external antenna left from the previous owner although it looks like it connected straight to a Cellular modem/router as the cable coming off it is not a standard F Connector. I'm looking to see what others have done, what equipment they're using, and their results. I think I'm gonna buy piece by piece and do the installation over a period of time. If you know of anywhere to get a good deal on antennas or boosters ect. online please pass it on hear. Thanks, Gifters
