  1. With the introduction of the new plans Sprint has announced. I told one of my friends about the $60 unlimited plan and she was shocked yet happy about it. She currently has T-Mobile and there has been times where my Sprint service has out performed her service even in the city with puling up information and out of town...well... you already know how that went. She was talking about switching and stuff but then she sent me a typical article bashing Sprint and I got irritated by it and I had to explain to her that Sprint is not bad at all. These articles are based on past experiences from 3+ years ago. I told her I'm pulling 60+ mbps on LTE but she's worried about Sprint being slow ( because of what she read). Guys give me some advice on persuading her to give Sprint a chance. I feel like articles that are being posted is what keeps away customers. It makes no sense that T-Mobiles 2g network is not spoken about when they are in the news for changes to plans and such. But good ol Sprint makes changes and articles that get posted rips Sprint apart for filth.
  2. Hey I decided to go ahead and start a TAC tracking thread. The TAC , in my findings, have been a value to me deciphering which band I am connected to. Signal check pro easily states the TAC when connected to LTE. If you can report your Market, city, which band you are connected too(engineering screens will relay which band you are on), and of course your TAC. We will create a spreadsheet with the information in time. Do NOT post Side ID's or any sponsor level information. Censor the info out if you use SCP notes. Thanks!
  3. Hello, Can somebody test this fieldtest/netmonitor android app on LTE and tell how it works. Here is the link to Google Play: G-NetTrack Short description and screenshots: This is a fieldtest/netmonitor application for UMTS/GSM/LTE/CDMA/EVDO network. The application monitors the serving CELLID, LEVEL, QUAL, MCC, MNC, LAC, technology, cell serving time and neighbor cells CELLID/PSC and LEVEL.

  5. I had my first out of town travel over the weekend and here is something that I noticed while being in multiple different cities. Firstly let me state that I have a Galaxy Nexus and can only get LTE on band 25. My home city is Washington DC does not officially have LTE. LTE is around town, mostly in NE and SE with some cells interspersed throughout. My old phone was a Photon 4G and WiMax coverage is pretty solid in DC. At my home, I am pretty sure the building next to mine has the WiMax antennas on the roof; however, I cannot connect to LTE. I can force my phone in LTE only and pick up the LTE signal, I just cannot get any data on it to transfer, way to low dBm. When I do get LTE in DC, I noticed that the signal must be very strong for it to switch from 3g to LTE. Even sometimes with a sub 85dBA signal I can get bumped back to 3G. This is different from what I noticed over the weekend. While in Pittsburgh, my phone was almost always connected to LTE. It even stayed connected to LTE with on bare and a 140dBa signal. My data transfer speeds dropped of significantly, but I still had LTE. I noticed that both cities have not officially launched at LTE markets as of July 4, 2014. I just wonder why there is such a difference. Clearly it seems that Pittsburgh is further along in its deployment. But why can you stay on LTE in Pittsburgh, while in DC it wants to kick you for almost any reason? Could it be because of the different hardware that is being deployed? Thanks for any thoughts or shared experiences.
  6. So I saw this, and saw they plan on having 100Mbps wireless network. They mentioned Volte in 2015. Maybe a sign for Sprint to rollout Volte in 2015. http://www.vermontbiz.com/news/june/vtel-wireless-deal-sprint-will-help-bring-100-megabits-second-vermonters
  7. I've been reporting eCSFB issues through eChat to Sprint for about a month now. My local market (Binghamton, NY) is generally B25 LTE complete, however triband phones cannot place or receive calls when connected to LTE. I've tested this on multiple phones, on multiple sites all around the area. I've provided them with site numbers, but all they come back with is that the upgrades are complete in my area and that they are sorry. We are not 1x800 accepted yet. Is 800 acceptance going to be what fixes these eCSFB issues? When I use my N5 in the Lehigh Valley market on 1x800 + LTE accepted sites, I can place and receive calls flawlessly when connected to LTE. So I know it's not the device. My local area has been like this since January - this means that pretty much every (triband) customer here hasn't been able to make or receive calls since then on the LTE sites. I find it hard to believe. Is it common that LTE accepted sites without 1x800 have these calling issues? Is a 1x800 acceptance really what will fix this eventually? (Not because it's 800, but because THEN the site will be fully upgraded?)
  8. So, I am posting a suggestion as to maybe scheduling some times to get together in, "The Lounge" to discuss certain topics. I'm an amateur radio operator and we call these over the radio "Nets" You have one person as the control operator for the discussion, and each person takes their turn to discuss. (It doesn't have to be this controlled). But throw out a topic (Related to Topics within S4GRU) And we all get together at that time and discuss. We can have several topics to discuss through out the week. I know alot of us are on daily. Think It would be a cool idea. If anyone is interested, I can throw something together and present it to the admin/staff. Thoughts? Kris
  9. AT&T took the plunge. Let's see how far they can go with it and how it compares to the HD Voice offerings of Sprint and T-Mobile. [url="http://www.androidcentral.com/att-switches-hd-voice-small-test-markets-small-phone
  10. I got an email this afternoon about the FreedomPop Freedom Spot Photon Platinum hotspot on sale for $19.99 with Free Shipping. I'm curious if anyone knows/has heard what LTE bands this device is running on? If it's anything like the MiFi 500, I'll sell my MiFi, pay my ETF with Sprint, and just casually use the FreedomPop instead. Thanks!
  11. With the FCC and Sprint, T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon have agreed to this new unlocking policy. How does this effect sprint phones such as the IPhone. I have heard that Sprint can unlock your phone but you can not take it to other carriers such as Verizon and the IPhone can only be used overseas. (Correct me if I am wrong). I am glad that this has finally happened. But when it comes to Sprint how would this work?
  12. Ever since I have my LG G2, I noticed that the LTE signal is very week yet the 3G signal from the same tower is fully available on 1900 Mhz. This is not just one tower, I noticed this all over Las Vegas. Could this be related to the LTE not being fully deployed / under construction? I have seen this on most towers that have been listed as 3G/800/4G. Has anybody noticed the same issue?
  13. I'm in Houston where NV and Spark deployments are well underway. I'd say things have overall improved drastically in Houston, but I'm still displeased with the performance of the network. I bought the S4 L720T so I've been able to take advantage of bands 26 and 41 in some areas. Band 41 is awesome: 45/15Mbps+ pretty consistently, and band 26 actually tends to outperform band 25. I see about 18/7 on band 26 and about 8/3 on band 25 on average. I assume that's because everyone has a band 25 -capable phone on Sprint these days, i.e. - band 25 is becoming saturated. All this is fine and well, but my issue is how and why (in a market so far along in NV/Spark) I'm constantly still being booted down to 3G. Further, the wait time to get back on LTE seems to take forever, especially when I'm in the middle of something important and I'm dropped to 3G without (as it seems) any rhyme or reason. The only fix seems to be the whole Airplane Mode switch, but that's just not an acceptable solution. I would honestly rather have no connectivity for a few seconds than fall back to 3G and have to do the silly Airplane Mode switch when I'm inside a building or traveling throughout the city. I've been patient sometimes, just to see how long it would take to go from 3G back to LTE. After 10-or-so minutes of sitting on 3G, I just end up flipping the Airplane Mode switch and (strangely) I'm back on LTE with a decent signal. Doesn't make sense... There's a tower less than 500 yards from my house. At home, often I get bumped from 26 (strong signal, fast speeds) to 25 (weak signal, slower speeds) and then sometimes to the dreaded 3G (strong signal, slow speeds, high latency). I can't seem to figure out why. I should be able to jump in my car and consistently tell Google, "navigate to XYZ" and not have to wait 30 seconds for the 3G network to handle it (or do an Airplane Mode switch and redo my command), especially with a tower so close to my house! Is there a way to de-prioritize or disable EVDO while maintaining phone service capabilities? I've played around with the Data Programming menu (##3282#) and can't seem to find anything that does that. Setting the NextLTEScan Timer to 1 minute hasn't done anything in terms of at least improving the time I can automatically get back onto LTE when I've been pushed down to 3G. I've also set it to LTE Only mode, but of course, I can't make phone calls, unless I use VoIP, but then lose 911 capability, so that's not an option. Any other suggestions?
  14. Hello all, Well I waited and waited for LTE to hit my area whence I could cut the cable cord. Well the rollout came and .... not so much. So I am looking at a signal booster / repeater. I came across some good info, mostly here on s4gru but I was wondering since those threads are outdated by the rollout and the date posted I thought I would post up and see if anyone had some recent experience with Wilson electronics and LTE service? I am mostly only interested in the 1900 mhz band as the 800 band will come later. (http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/881-signal-amplification-i-want-to-install-a-booster-at-my-house/?hl=%2Bsignal+%2Bbooster) At one point it was only the Wilson 801247 amplifier that for sure confirmed amplified the G band. I also came across this (http://blog.3gstore.com/2012/07/sprint-4g-lte-amplifiers-wilson.html) : I find this interesting because Wilson doesnt market a Sprint LTE amp like they do for Verizon. I assume it works in the 1900 band like they say it does. Although on the product descriptions they say explicitly that the products do not work on LTE including Sprint. Is this clever marketing on their part to drive sales to the Quad band amplifier? Obviously they would rather sell the $1000 amp than the $200 amp that is only 5mhz or less away from Sprint's band? Does anyone have any more hands on experience? The Wilson 801247 kit is a Desktop (DT) model and not made for a larger home or area which I am trying to cover. So I want to confirm if a different amp they offer will amplify the 1900 mhz G band of Sprint LTE. If you have a working signal repeater setup that receives the 1900 mhz Sprint LTE please let me know the model of antenna, amp, etc... Thanks in advance.
  15. I'm getting up to speed on all the bits and pieces of the Sprint network after getting my Moto X smartphone about 6 weeks ago. I was trying to find some info on the number of EVDO rev. A carriers per sector at a typical site in the PCS spectrum constrained Chicago market. I guess what I'm trying to find out is the effective EVDO air link capacity available to me in the outer Chicago suburbs. I would find it hard to believe if there is only one EVDO carrier serving the whole area of a sector with only 3.1 Mbps theoretical max to share with everyone in my area. Out where I live, a typical tower serves about a 3 mile radius which I calculate a 120 degree sector would cover the users in a 9.4 square miles area (with the 3 sectors of the tower would cover abaout 28.3 sq miles). Ideally I perhaps could use a spectrum analyzer which I could maybe borrow from work, but if someone here has the scoop, it would be very helpful. Now if there is 2, 3 or 4 EVDO carriers per sector with the back haul to match, then I suspect there is some breathing room, and my phone perhaps can jump to the carrier that is least utilized, possibly by looking at SNR if I understand correctly. Also would I be correct to state that one 1X Adv carrier and 3 EVDO carriers would fit exactly into 5 MHz of spectrum? I appreciate any feedback as a brand new poster. Brian
  16. Anyone here find it ironic that the Chevy "Spark" Will be LTE Enabled on AT&T? http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/gm-reveals-first-lte-enabled-cars-att-service-announces-chevrolet-app-shop/2014-01-06?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=internal

  18. Hello all, I just found this forum this morning and so far I like what I see. I was working on my blog for the field worker, www.wade4wireless.com, and I was looking around for some examples of tower top RRHs and saw you guys post a lot of good information. Thanks! Wade
  19. AT&T's LTE network impaired by salon's fluorescent light By Tammy Parker AT&T's (NYSE:T) cellular network has faced myriad challenges over the years, such as the overwhelming capacity crunch that hit when Apple's (NASDAQ:AAPL) first iPhone rolled out. But the latest threat to AT&T's network is particularly illuminating, because the problem is being caused by a common fluorescent light fixture. The fixture is located inside the Perfect Cuts Salon in a San Antonio, Texas, strip mall. By simply flicking the salon's lights on and off...
  20. Rumors are going flying saying a new Motorola Photon is coming to the market this year. It will have the name of Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. This phone should include features such as 4G LTE, Webtop Connection and at least 8 mega-pixel camera. One interesting piece is the Q in the name. The Q is said to stand for quad-core showing a possible quarter 3 release. We can believe this is a Quarter 3 release because the Tegra 3 with LTE support will not come to the market till Quarter 3. Anyone think about how cool this phone would be?

  22. just to understand NV i want to confirm this and plese correct me if i'm wrong. 1x will be upgraded to 1x800 as well as upgrades to 1xRTT? 3G will be ugraded in the PCS band as well as 800? and 3G and 1x will NOT be running 2.6Ghz? as far as LTE, it will run off 800Mhz, 1900Mhz and 2.6Ghz. just want to make sure i understand this. thanks S4GRU members
  23. "This is pretty incredible when you think about it: Verizon has instituted a system where I actually have incentives to not use its network." http://bgr.com/2013/09/27/verizon-att-lte-data-cap-criticism/
  24. I've heard around these forums that LTE will not drain a phone's battery any more than 3g on newer phones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 though and that seems not accurate in my case to the point where I almost dread LTE showing up because I'll be having to go on airplane mode within a couple hours. Even when I go to a place with strong Sprint LTE signal with high data rates (e.g.; 20 mbps), my phone will only last a few hours at most before I am in the yellow. If I am on 3g though with that kind of signal and general use, I can generally last a day without charging. Is the Samsung Galaxy S3 just not good at LTE battery life or is LTE simply a battery hog? I am hoping it is the former since I'm going to be upgrading soon.
  25. I signed up with Sprint for 2 years with the iPhone 5. I've been an android guy since the OG EVO days and I must admit although many say the iPhone 5 is inferior to the quad core devices, I must agree, but at the same time the 5 is a great product and I have no reason to go back to android. I have been getting LTE near my home area, but the coverage is spotty and I have seen improvements in LTE coverage and it has only been a week! I still have 7 days to return to Sprint for a full refund. Tmobile's new plans for $99 iphone 5 + $90/month seems appealing considering I'll get HSPA+ or LTE. My question is in the long run which would be a better investment? I have limited knowledge when it comes to future deployments of either company. The only thing I do know is speed wise I was much happier on Tmobile. Coverage wise I am better off on Sprint. I know your answers may be a bit bias, but I'd like to understand why Sprint will be better than Tmobile for future LTE deployments.. Please convince me to stay! lol.
