  1. I recently went on an 8 day cruise from NYC to the Caribbean that stopped in Turks and Caicos, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. My first stop was Grand Turk and there I opted for the free roaming. My S9+ automatically connected to Flow's (Cable & Wireless) LTE network where I received speeds of around 120kbps on average with boosts of up to 150kbps. Something worth noting is that on speed tests, the server prefers to default to Sprint's Miami server as opposed to local servers. Speeds were more than adequate for any amount of web browsing and honestly felt much faster than in reality. It helps that using Chrome will save you data by not loading pictures on certain sites unless you click them. In Puerto Rico, I connected to Band 13 on the way into the port in San Juan but once I was in the city, my phone never left Band 41. While the phone was usable, speeds remained significantly lower than what I've come to expect from 3xCA in the mainland U.S. Data speeds peaked at around 25-30Mbos but on average were in the 5-10 Mbps range even on LTE+. Signal remained strong everywhere though. Finally in the Dominican Republic, I entered in Amber Cover which is in Puerto Plata. My phone latched onto a weak Band 2 LTE signal in the port from Altice (called Orange Dominicana in SignalCheck). I had trouble loading pages though. Once off of the ship and out in the open, I had a much stronger signal which allowed me to browse the internet without a hitch. Because it was the last day of my trip, while at the beach I decided to purchase the 24 hour high speed pass for $5. My speeds went from 120kbps to 65Mbps in less than 5 seconds. In some areas speeds were slower, particularly at the port where it struggled to break 2Mbps. Now, back on the boat my phone is flipping between weak Band 4 LTE and overloaded Band 5 HSPA+ from Claro (called Verizon Dominicana in SignalCheck Pro). Here is the difference in speed from before and after purchasing the high speed pass.
  2. Hey guys I found another newsletter about Sprint and Cox. I'll be posting the article here. http://www.kansascity.com/news/business/technology/article195339874.html
  3. hello everyone i m starting a thread for sprint network predictions for 2018. i am wishing sprint and s4gru a happy holidays and new years. regards Daniel
  4. hey guys i am due for a upgrade today....i am curious on the opinions of others of what phone is a great phone... any opinions are welcome !
  5. Some history first; Been through all the highs & broken promise Lows over the last 18 years with Sprint, currently have 7 lines. My main areas of concern are where I live and my retirement cabin which are in a semi Sprint dead zones. My Note3 will hold onto 3g for dear life. I have to toggle airplane mode to return to LTE signal (while standing in my back yard). Once I enter the house it drops to 3g. Speed test at 4g is slow at best. In my front yard it's 3g unless I walk into the center of the street, togle airplane mode then can pick up SLOW 4g again(until I walk to my front door.) i know note3 is missing band 41 which is suposto help. The wife's Iphone6 is 3g in my front yard, lte in the middle of the street and drops to 3g when entering our house also. When on 3g and walking into the back yard, airplane mode to froce it to 4g and it sticks to lte once you enter the house again. 1 to 2 bars, 17mb down with 1.3mb up. It will hold onto the lte signal. Does anyone have any insight to what I should expect with a Note5? Sprint has programed the system so if our 3g signal is stronger, my phone will want to stay there, Will carrier aggregation solve this problem or will the Note 5 try and hang onto the stronger 3g signal at all costs? I'm able to pre order the Note5 for $249 with a $200 SAMSUNG REBATE. Hate to get all excited and sign on for another 2 years if the Note5 will be doing what the note3 is doing. I get the whole ehrpd and 3g improving the cell phone experiance. At this point im more interested in being able to use more than the 5mb per month my 7 phones average and finally be able to use some of the unlimited data I've been paying for over the last 18 years. I'm in West Orange County, CA. and travel to the SAN Bernardino mountains weekly. Experts please chime in. On the fence to switch carriers but want Sprint to suceed and be there when they do!
  6. Does Sprint have an LTE roaming deals with any carrier anywhere currently? If so, does it show up on their coverage map?
  7. I'm here looking for answers to a simple question. Where is this mystery Sprint signal coming from? For the past few weeks I've received a signal on multiple Sprint devices, two Sprint devices with roaming turned off, and two Virgin Mobile phones and Virgin Mobile phones can't roam, the other rate plans might be able but I'm talk about Virgin Mobile devices from before they introduced all those other plans. What I'm making clear is these devices have to be picking up a Sprint signal, plus I've downloaded the SignalCheck Pro app which has indicated two different signals 1XRTT and 1X800. The signal only last for about 8 hours each morning and begins coming in and out towards the end of each morning. I try making a call and it fails, and it doesn't get any data at all. I try each device and they all do the same thing they have a signal and very strong signal with no data, and voice doesn't go threw, I haven't tried sending a text figured no data, no voice then there must be no text. I read about some "projects" that Sprint has going on Project Ocean and Project Cedar. Since Project Ocean is suppose to be taking place in Missouri and I live so close to the Iowa, Missouri line, I figured if there is a tower going up maybe it is possible I'm getting a signal from it, in the early stages. I really don't know what is going on, if Sprint is launching service, putting up new towers and that signal finally comes, and stays, and works. I'll be back full time on the Sprint ban wagon. Unfortunately, I live in an area not served by (according to experience and coverage map) Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Not even the two Iowa carriers i Wireless or Chat Mobility serve my area, go 10, 15 or 20 miles in any direction your good, here, wireless dead zone, no choice of carriers. And if Sprint puts a tower here if I finally get an answer and learn that signal will soon come and stay and work I'll finally have a choice. So if anyone has any ideas, has experienced this in other parts of the country or has any idea what could be going on please say. Any information is better than not knowing, and together maybe this will be answered.
  8. I'm sure everyone remembers the free night and weekend minutes we had years ago. This morning I was thinking what if a carrier took that same idea but instead made for it data. I think that if a carrier was able to implement this that it would be big and a game changer. What do you guys think?
  9. I bought an LG Tribute to track the rollout of Sprint Spark (and to test Network Vision service as well) in my area. Is there anything I should know when I start tracking? Any particular apps I should get or dialing codes I should know?
  10. IBEZ will be solved SOONER, rather than later. Which is a good thing. I would have liked for SoftBank to join the fight, because EVERYONE knows that their roaming rates are going to be abysmal with Sprint customers traveling to Mexico. Is this a raw deal? Your thoughts? Via GigaOM: https://gigaom.com/2015/01/26/att-to-buy-nextel-mexico-continuing-continental-expansion/
  11. The closest Sprint tower to my house is about 3.5 miles away. In between are hills, trees, a handful of houses, and fields. However, I do have line of sight. I can see the blinking light of the tower in the distance at night. I do not think Sprint has deployed any LTE at this tower. When they do, is it possible that the LTE signal would reach my house? Right now I have a Moto X, but I may go back to the Q10. I do pick up eHRPD at my house. What frequency is that on? I'm thinking Sprint's 800ish mhz LTE band might. Not sure about 1900 though.. Thanks
  12. Many of us hate the tiny coverage tool, so here are some HD images of Sprint's Spark coverage. Clearwire 10/29/15: Full Resolution (10786 x 5798) 5/18/15: Full Resolution (5350 x 2850) 11/1/14: Full Resolution (5350 x 2900) Sprint map last updated: 5/18/15

  14. With the extremely fast ramp-up of band 26 deployment in the recent months, a lot of the US is now covered by it. Some markets have been optimized, some haven't. For those markets that have seen band 26 optimization, what's your story? Did you used to get a weak 3G connection indoors, and now enjoy a usable 1-2 bar LTE connection? Is your 800Mhz LTE connection stronger, the same, or slightly weaker than 3G now? Let's try to keep this focused only on stories about areas that have seen a definite coverage improvement as a result of a fully optimized band 26 LTE deployment, not a thread that focuses on where optimization hasn't taken place yet. Perhaps we can boost morale and give us non-optimized folks something to look forward to. :-)
  15. With the introduction of the new plans Sprint has announced. I told one of my friends about the $60 unlimited plan and she was shocked yet happy about it. She currently has T-Mobile and there has been times where my Sprint service has out performed her service even in the city with puling up information and out of town...well... you already know how that went. She was talking about switching and stuff but then she sent me a typical article bashing Sprint and I got irritated by it and I had to explain to her that Sprint is not bad at all. These articles are based on past experiences from 3+ years ago. I told her I'm pulling 60+ mbps on LTE but she's worried about Sprint being slow ( because of what she read). Guys give me some advice on persuading her to give Sprint a chance. I feel like articles that are being posted is what keeps away customers. It makes no sense that T-Mobiles 2g network is not spoken about when they are in the news for changes to plans and such. But good ol Sprint makes changes and articles that get posted rips Sprint apart for filth.
  16. A good friend of mine, who's an Engineer in real life, just made a really good post and I wanted to share it here for further comment. 17. I am presently customer of the old Clearwire for home internet service. By twist of fate, there are no other high-speed internet providers in my area - NOTHING! - unless you consider satellite services. Clearwire was reluctant to give me a CLEAR EXPRESS HUB and sign me up originally because my home is literally shown to be in a marginal area of service. My lot was shown to be covered but not the adjacent lots (not sure how that happens?). Anyway, they gave me the modem and I experience around 6 Mbps downloads and 1 Mbps uploads (with an outside antenna). For someone coming off dial-up and satellite (Wildblue) these speeds were terrific! I am happy! I understand my service is not as good as many others, but for this area it is fabulous! With the recent announcements that Clearwire's Wimax service will be phased out by the end of 2015 - I am on pins and needles waiting for the other shoe to drop. I live in Canal Winchester (suburb of Columbus, OH) and would be devastated If I lost my Clearwire service and we are not part of some Sprint LTE upgrade that will allow us to obtain high-speed internet when Clearwire goes away Why isn't Sprint more open about their future plans to provide service to areas they acquired from Clearwire, including types of services and time frames other then generalities that I sometimes see published. The tower I ping off of is located in Columbus (moderate density housing) and I have to believe that Columbus (15th largest city in the USA) would be near the top. The tower is 3 to 4 miles away.
  18. Hey I decided to go ahead and start a TAC tracking thread. The TAC , in my findings, have been a value to me deciphering which band I am connected to. Signal check pro easily states the TAC when connected to LTE. If you can report your Market, city, which band you are connected too(engineering screens will relay which band you are on), and of course your TAC. We will create a spreadsheet with the information in time. Do NOT post Side ID's or any sponsor level information. Censor the info out if you use SCP notes. Thanks!
  19. Ericsson RRUS31 B25 + RRUS11 B26 These are the newest and greatest remote radio units to come from Ericsson. The new Ericsson RRUS31 B25 should be fairly distinctive compared to the earlier RRUS11s and now the RRUS12s being deployed by ATT and Verizon. One of these new RRUS31s can do the job of two earlier RRUS11s thus reducing deployment costs for Sprint and complexity in deploying new sites and making it easier for users to spot as there are now 4 jumpers coming out of one RRUS31 rather than two from each RRUS11 that Ericsson originally deployed. All future deployments will be utilizing the new Ericsson RRUS31s. In addition Ericsson are sending crews to their original deployments and swapping out older RRUS11s for these new RRUS31s due to the aforementioned fact that one RRUS31 can do the job of 2 RRUS11s. Weight savings will be significant at sites where there are 4 or 5 RRUS11 B25s that can be replaced by one or 2 RRUS31s. The Ericsson RRUS31 deployment project is known as the 65 Mhz Project. Ericsson RRUS11 B26 top and RRUS31 B25 bottom Ericsson High Capacity / 4x4/2 MIMO Deployment Note the additional antenna + PCS radio. Previously Ericsson utilized additional PCS radios and used RF combiners for high capacity setups where they utilized three or more PCS radios. This new setup will utilize a completey new antenna + radio set just like Samsung and run 4x2 MIMO on the LTE antenna / radio set. Ericsson RRUS11 B25 [EOL'd] and B26 A standard Ericsson Network Vision 1.0 site with 3 RRUS11s where two are dedicated to PCS and one to SMR. This type of setup is no longer deployed or utilized in new sites. Existing sites will be slowly converted to newer RRUS31 B25 via the Sprint 65 mhz project. Ericsson NV high capacity site [EOL'd] 3 or 4 PCS RRUs are present for a total of 4 or 5 RRUS11s per antenna. 20. I had my first out of town travel over the weekend and here is something that I noticed while being in multiple different cities. Firstly let me state that I have a Galaxy Nexus and can only get LTE on band 25. My home city is Washington DC does not officially have LTE. LTE is around town, mostly in NE and SE with some cells interspersed throughout. My old phone was a Photon 4G and WiMax coverage is pretty solid in DC. At my home, I am pretty sure the building next to mine has the WiMax antennas on the roof; however, I cannot connect to LTE. I can force my phone in LTE only and pick up the LTE signal, I just cannot get any data on it to transfer, way to low dBm. When I do get LTE in DC, I noticed that the signal must be very strong for it to switch from 3g to LTE. Even sometimes with a sub 85dBA signal I can get bumped back to 3G. This is different from what I noticed over the weekend. While in Pittsburgh, my phone was almost always connected to LTE. It even stayed connected to LTE with on bare and a 140dBa signal. My data transfer speeds dropped of significantly, but I still had LTE. I noticed that both cities have not officially launched at LTE markets as of July 4, 2014. I just wonder why there is such a difference. Clearly it seems that Pittsburgh is further along in its deployment. But why can you stay on LTE in Pittsburgh, while in DC it wants to kick you for almost any reason? Could it be because of the different hardware that is being deployed? Thanks for any thoughts or shared experiences.
  21. So I saw this, and saw they plan on having 100Mbps wireless network. They mentioned Volte in 2015. Maybe a sign for Sprint to rollout Volte in 2015. http://www.vermontbiz.com/news/june/vtel-wireless-deal-sprint-will-help-bring-100-megabits-second-vermonters
  22. I've been reporting eCSFB issues through eChat to Sprint for about a month now. My local market (Binghamton, NY) is generally B25 LTE complete, however triband phones cannot place or receive calls when connected to LTE. I've tested this on multiple phones, on multiple sites all around the area. I've provided them with site numbers, but all they come back with is that the upgrades are complete in my area and that they are sorry. We are not 1x800 accepted yet. Is 800 acceptance going to be what fixes these eCSFB issues? When I use my N5 in the Lehigh Valley market on 1x800 + LTE accepted sites, I can place and receive calls flawlessly when connected to LTE. So I know it's not the device. My local area has been like this since January - this means that pretty much every (triband) customer here hasn't been able to make or receive calls since then on the LTE sites. I find it hard to believe. Is it common that LTE accepted sites without 1x800 have these calling issues? Is a 1x800 acceptance really what will fix this eventually? (Not because it's 800, but because THEN the site will be fully upgraded?)
  23. So I have had the chance to play around with the Tab 4(Wi-fi) only model, and Like how much smoother it is than the Tab 3 series. Now What are some of your favorite features About the device? Hopefully sprint will announce one with Tri-band support. I will Grab one when they come out if they do! I believe the Tab 4 on Sprint will have Triband, as the Verizon has 3 band LTE support and At&t version have 4 bands I believe. Also if you are looking for a Tab 4 Wifi only version, Check Target out, it has a Cartwheel coupon for 10% off a Tab 4, plus 20% off a Tab 3. And I want to say a coupon off Other Samsung Accessories!
  24. I got an email this afternoon about the FreedomPop Freedom Spot Photon Platinum hotspot on sale for $19.99 with Free Shipping. I'm curious if anyone knows/has heard what LTE bands this device is running on? If it's anything like the MiFi 500, I'll sell my MiFi, pay my ETF with Sprint, and just casually use the FreedomPop instead. Thanks!
  25. AT&T took the plunge. Let's see how far they can go with it and how it compares to the HD Voice offerings of Sprint and T-Mobile. [url="http://www.androidcentral.com/att-switches-hd-voice-small-test-markets-small-phone
