  1. http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/verizons-shammo-well-finish-lte-buildout-mid-2013/2012-11-08 The big question is whether "complete" now means something less than having LTE wherever 3G was before. Which is probably doable...all Verizon has left at this point are pretty rural areas where they'll be deploying for coverage rather than capacity (e.g. in Fredericksburg and Kerrville, TX where they have PCS spectrum and thus plenty of sites to choose from). But will VZW see enough money to be made to do it?
  2. I thought this was interesting that I could roam and have a 4G connection?
  3. I am curious, is it expected/known whether NV upgrades will continue outward from KC along I70 towards and into STL, or will KC deployments reach a certain threshold and stop, and then eventually deployments will start within STL and expand out eventually covering the i70 corridor?
  4. Sprint announces 4 new LTE devices on the way "this fall." Bold 4G LTE Lineup from Sprint Gains Four New Powerhouse Devices "These four new 4G LTE additions will be available this fall and will provide customers powerful devices that fit their lifestyles: -Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 is the first tablet to combine the benefits of Sprint 3G and 4G LTE with a vivid 10.1-inch touchscreen display, Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. -LG Optimus G features an advanced 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, making it a dream device for photo lovers who are ready to leave their point-and-shoot at home and just carry their smartphone. -LG Mach makes 4G LTE accessible as an inexpensive yet sleek smartphone with a full QWERTY keyboard and Sprint ID. -Sprint Plug-in-Connect Tri-Mode USB brings Sprint 3G/4G/4G LTE directly to a laptop through a USB connection." No exact dates.. says "this fall."
  5. To all, I sent this to HTC so that they could try and see what they are doing wrong. I had originally just gone to their site to write about the EVO LTE, LTE issues but this is what poured out of me when I started writing! LOL If you don't like rants of suggestions move on, but if you see what I see, if you feel as I feel, and if you would seek as I seek, then I ask you to stand beside me one year from tonight, outside the gates of Parliament... Crap... V for vendetta (Best Movie Ever) taking over again! LOL! I suggest everyone on this forum, who has an HTC phone (or not), go to the HTC website and blog to leave feedback. I'm guessing HTC doesn't read the tech blogs perhaps or maybe they don't know how we (their customers) feel? Maybe they don't know about the plaguing LTE issues on the EVO LTE (WINK WINK)? And most of all, enjoy...
  6. I'm an IT guy for the last 30 years and a sprint customer for the last 12 years. I'm a 4G early adopter in Detroit. I got the original HTC EVO 4G in June 2010 during the launch weekend. I've never able to benefit from 4G because it was never deployed in the Detroit area. I got my HTC EVO 4G LTE in June 2012 during the launch weekend. (do you see a pattern here?). I'm really looking forward to using 4G this time and I'm anxiously awaiting for our deployments to begin. I plan to use this site to track deployment status with a specific focus on those cities who used the same subcontractors that Detroit will be using. I'm looking forward to interacting with other members especially those with the HTC EVO 4G LTE. Lastly, and most importantly, I would like to thank S4GRU for providing information, insight and a community for "us" the real people that use Sprint 4G services. - Mitch
  7. I have a question for anyone out there that has rooted their EVO LTE and is in a LTE area. I have been very, very anxious to finally root this phone. I get hesitant at first cause I honestly have no legitimate reason to do so, other than I just want to. I don't really have the major issues that many people tend to be having as far as connectivity and app crashing, that sprint themselves couldn't fix remotely. But, if I do root the phone and flash over a custom rom, would that fix the LTE connectivity issue the phone has? Just curious, I might just be looking for any reason to root ;P -Luis
  8. Seems like everybody who preordered their iPhone 5's from sprint.com hasn't gotten a tracking number yet. I'm watching my email very closely in anticipation... If you received a confirmation/tracking number, say something!
  9. Does anyone know how Sprint and VZW is doing in Pre-Order Sales? AT&T: http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/17/iphone-5-pre-orders-set-new-sales-record-for-att/ http://www.macrumors.com/2012/09/17/apple-announces-over-two-million-iphone-5-pre-orders/
  10. Since today is the first official day that the iPhone 5 has been released. Do y'all think the iPhone 4S is still at good buy for 100 bucks? What do you guys think? Since LTE is still rolling out, it will take sometime for people to really see what LTE is about......
  11. This probably isn't new topic worthy but, can someone please explain to me what LTE Advanced is and what'll happen when the LTE Advanced network goes live? Will our current LTE phones be able to benefit from this?
  12. So, I live in central Alabama...I'm probably somewhere around half the distance between Birmingham, and Montgomery...two cities that I'm SURE will get 4G due to their size and population..but as for my area, I can't really say. I live on the south end of the county, but twice a year the north end of the county becomes the 2nd largest population-wise due to the Nascar track...(for those still wondering, I live near Talladega Superspeedway, but this is still a good 20 miles from me on the opposite end of the county)... I don't know if they'll light-up this county due to it's affiliation with Nascar or not, and if they do, then it probably STILL won't affect me because of my distance from the track (zip = 35150). With 4G being more than likely destined to come to Bham and Mont...I guess we'll have to deal with 3G Advanced here?? Question is, what exactly is the 3G advanced..and does this advanced 3G mean that eventually 4G will be present? I thought they said that every that was within a Sprint 3G area right now would be getting a 4G signal when they finish the roll-out/deployment...or am I wrong in that?
  13. The iPhone 5 goes back to a multi-model scheme thanks to the disparate bunch of LTE bands everyone is using. I took a look at the breakdown, as well as at the non-LTE radios, to see what this would mean for Sprint... First, what bands does each iPhone support? Apple has a list: http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ Version #1 (A1428) is, more or less, the AT&T edition. 700MHz lower B+C and AWS First off, looks like AT&T still wants to do LTE in AWS. Second, while the iPhone only has quad-band HSPA+ (like the iPad; 850/900/1900/2100), its HSPA and LTE bands line up with T-Mobile's refarmed PCS H+ and upcoming AWS LTE. Which means of course that, if you can get an unlocked A1428 iPhone, it will probably be faster on T-Mobile than AT&T. Just like the 4/4S are when using TMo PCS H+ today. Version #2 (A1429 CDMA) is the Sprint + Verizon edition. 2100, 1800, Cellular, upper 700, PCS+G This is the most interesting model of the three IMO. Despite SpectrumCo, there's no AWS here for Verizon. There is, however, support for a band that Verizon probably won't launch for several years: LTE in Cellular. I'm sure this was due to KDDI needing the band, but it's entertaining nonetheless. And of course Sprint's current LTE deployment is fully supported, though LTE in SMR or 2500 isn't. On the non-LTE side, the phone is the only mass-market phone sold in the US that supports EvDO Rev. B. This, like the inclusion of LTE-850, is due to KDDI/au in Japan. On the other hand, Apple is using correct nomenclature for the 850 (vs. 800) band now, designating everything as 850MHz except CDMA on this model. Which of course indicates that the iPhone will (finally) support Sprint's 1x SMR network (so iPhones won't be at a coverage disadvantage to anything Sprint has sold in the past year from another manufacturer). The iPhone 5 also supports HD voice, which I'm guessing is the same thing that is supported on the Evo 4G LTE. So look for Sprint to be the first carrier in the US to support HD voice on the iPhone. Version #3 (A1429 GSM) is the international LTE version. 2100, 1800, Cellular Nothing is surprpising here; the iPhone may not nab everyone's current and future LTE bands, but having three international bands supported is a happy medium for a world phone. My guess is that this model is just the CDMA model with the additional bands/techs disabled in software, since it shares a model number with the CDMA version and has a subset of the CDMA version's bands. This means that Apple is only producing two versions of its newest phone (and two versions of its newest iPad) for the entire world...one for AT&T (okay, not quite but close) and one for everyone else in both cases. This state of affairs leaves smaller carriers in a bit of an odd predicament. The AT&T edition of the iPhone has AWS and 700 lower B + C bands built in for LTE, which is good for T-Mobile (though TMo won't get to use its AWS HSPA+) and better for someone like CricKet or MetroPCS than before (since both will deploy LTE on 1700). However there's still now AWS CDMA on any iPhone, nor is there an iPhone with both AWS and PCS LTE support. This presents a no-win situation for someone like US Cellular, who has CDMA on 850 and 1900 (A1429) but will deploy LTE across 700 (including lower-A at times) and AWS (A1428, except for the A band) and in certain cases 850 and 1900 (A1429). Of course, US Cellular would have to pick A1429, but then they will have to live with a phone that is 3G-only in any area where their cellular + PCS holdings are,'t enough to support both CDMA and LTE. But hey, at least Sprint now has an iPhone that can do LTE and CDMA just as well (band-wise) as any other currently-available Sprint phone.
  14. Does anyone in the area where Sprint released their LTE coverage has the PRL from the iPhone 4s? If so, how has the speed increased? If it's a lot better, please upload the PRL so I can try it out. Thanks
  15. Apparently Apple pulled it off with the iPhone 5. Sent from my LG Viper 4G LTE using Forum Runner
  16. Today we found out that Sprint will start selling new iPhone 5 on Sept 21st and preorders will start on 14th. Do we know If new Iphone wIll play nIce wIth NV? WIll It support HD VoIce? How about SMR band? Most Important... WIll new IPhone play nIce wIth SprInt's LTE network? Now Idea for a thought. BGR.com mentIoned that new Iphone wIll support every band Known to mankind. WIll It support LTE on 800Mhz? Cross carrIer LTE roamIng could be possIble too, rIght?
  17. http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=11102 The Photon is their first LTE phone. Sounds like the GSIII will be their second. They will be able to roam on Sprint LTE. I wonder whether Sprint phones will be able to roam on the parts of C-Spire's network that have LTE in PCS. Could be a nice perk for Sprint customers, since C-Spire will get to rural MS markets before Sprint will.
  18. Hi I've found the forum very useful, especially because I'm a newbie when it comes to cellular. I don't have my own cell phone. I have a company provided Blackberry 9330 on Sprint. I get very good signal at my work, at home, and at other places I frequent. As I read the forums, I'm learning that there is some variation between frequencies and other cell technologies. This concerns me because I'm looking at getting the new iPhone when it comes out, and I was considering Sprint since my Sprint Blackberry has worked great for me. Should I anticipate that the Sprint iPhone would also have good signal for me or do I really need to test this some other way before I take the plunge and buy? Any help would be appreciated!
  19. http://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.php?a=10900 The DOJ specified that a lot of the cross marketing stuff would not be allowed or limited. The cable companies made it pretty clear the cross marketing stuff had to stay. It will be interesting to see if this deal still goes through.
  20. Hello all, What is really odd is when I put the OG EVO and EVO LTE side by side on a table, floor, etc... the EVO LTE wins by a few dB! But once I pick both phones in my hand the OG EVO wins by a few dB? I tried holding both phones in different positions (two fingers at top, bottom, sides, palm holds, etc) but the results were always the same: OG EVO in hand and EVO LTE laying down? What is kinda odd too is that the OG EVO gains a few dBs when it is being touched but the EVO LTE almost loses some sometimes? I know a lot of you guys are really knowledgeable in this area and could explain why this happens? I don't have an EVO 3D but everyone is saying that both the OG EVO and EVO 3D both blow away the EVO LTE in signal strength and that simply isn't true from my testing! During my testing either device was 1-3dB from each other like i described above and I don't call that huge, but maybe I'm wrong? Also I can almost never get a lock on GPS with my EVO LTE when indoors? I used to (still do) get a lock on my OG EVO in a few seconds, even indoors but on the EVO LTE it simply flashes the GPS icon? I also, again, put both phones side by side and the OG EVO grabs a GPS signal in aprox 15-60 seconds where the EVO LTE never does (same spot in my house near a window)? Why do you think this is? Even when I stand outside in the middle of grass the EVO LTE takes a bit to get a GPS signal and even then only after a long time does it get to the little blue circle (Google Maps). I haven't noticed any signal loss with WiFi and I haven't tried Bluetooth range yet as I don't use a headset. Has anyone else had issues with a GPS lock indoors or even outdoors taking some time? Don't get me wrong I love my EVO LTE and I had the option to change it for the SGS3 but I prefer HTC to Samsung phones. I love Samsung displays but they just never update their phones. Their GS2 on Sprint is still on Gingerbread! I bet we get Jellybean for the EVO LTE by next year where Samsung GS3 will probably be two years or never. The battery is also amazing as I've been able to pull 2 days 10+ hours with mild use! Whoot! But why would HTC hide the power management options like the EVO 3D and my OG EVO (Sense 2.1 ROM) had (see story below)? I like that the phone automatically turns off my connections from 12-7? but I want the option to change or turn this feature off? I don't want my phone dimming my screen or under-clocking when it feels like it. HTC is a little annoying with the way they have been dealing with customer relations like the internal battery? I want a way to remove my battery easily although I do love my battery on my phone. I just hope I love it in a year after 600+ power cycles? Will I have to send it to HTC or maybe ruin it to change the battery to get a days worth of battery back? HTC has no answers? Why force me to not remove my battery and then not allow me a way to change the way my phone manages it? WTF HTC? http://www.pocketables.com/2012/06/access-hidden-power-saver-features-on-htc-evo-4g-lte.html And the only time my phone has ever gotten hot is when I connected my MHL adapter. The battery just dropped very rapidly over the short half hour I used the adapter. And I have a Menotek Micro USB to HDMI MHL Adapter which I bought on Amazon for $12.99. The picture is amazing in 1080p on both a Samsung 51inch Plasma and 46inch Vizio! It also has RCP so I could use my TV remote controls to control the items on my phone. It worked enough to change pictures but not to do normal functions completely. The extremely fast battery drain and heat scared me a little but both stopped when I removed the MHL adapter. Also the USB charging didn't work on my EVO LTE so I couldn't change my phone like most people say you can. My Samsung didn't even need the power cable to be plugged in to work while the Vizio did. The picture is automatically underscanned so you have to change the screen size on your TV to get it to fit properly. I guess they did this as some TVs do not have a way to overscan. Also as soon as you plug in the MHL adapter an HDMI logo appears and the whole phone screen goes to landscape mode, even the homescreen! I don't know why HTC didn't enable landscape view of the homescreen out of MHL mode as I know many people like it and they have it built in for MHL HDMI mode. Everything displayed great like viewing Google Maps on my TV, phone calls, Flixster, Gallery, etc. The Gallery app has a great option to press play and it shows all your pictures with music and great transition animations very easily! I could even use the phone as a controller while I play games on my huge TV via the EVO LTE! Lag was minimal if any and everything looks great in 1080p. There are even little textures on everything in sense that you can see in 1080p that you normally can't see on the phone. I could get everything to play via my TV such as HBO Go,Netflix, YouTube, Comcast Xfinity app and more AWESOME! It's great as the old OG EVO would only show apps like the Gallery and YouTube after the apps were started and running where the MHL adapter allows you to see every-screen like a duplicate of your phone only in 1080p! I mean it could be done on the OG EVO but required root and toying around with and many ROMs wouldn't work via HDMI mirroring. With an MHL adapter you could make the EVO LTE into your home computer with a few special dock screens apps and a keyboard mouse combo addon. But the heat and battery issues scare me enough to want to get more info before I do it again! Has anyone else used an MHL adapter? If you guys have any solutions or ways to fix any of these issues let me know. I'm also not rooted yet as I wanted to keep it stock for as long as I can. Thanks, 5th
  21. FreedomPop announced today that they now have an agreement with Sprint to use their 3G and LTE network. They will initially launch using Clearwire's WiMax network. By the end of the year FreedomPop will start deploying sleeves with Sprint's 3G and LTE support. In 2013 FreedomPop will stop using Clearwire's network for Sprint's but may go back to Clearwire for extra capacity. For more info go to the following link: http://gigaom.com/mobile/mvno-freedompop-swaps-clearwires-wimax-for-sprints-lte/
  22. Today I was able to test a Verizon LTE Rezound and the Sprint LTE EVO from the same location. Here is the results: Sprint Download: 6065kbps Upload: 6599kpbs Ping: 62ms Verizon Download: 10867kbps Upload: 3907kbps Ping: 117ms
  23. I know Sprint is the only carrier where we have (to my knowledge) information about which vendor is handling what part of their network, but I'm curious as to whether Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile have similarly regionalized their next-gen network deployments. For reference, here's who's building out networks for the Big Four, plus C-Spire and MetroPCS (since we now who they're using to roll out LTE): Verizon - Ericsson, AlcaLu, NSN AT&T - Ericsson, AlcaLu Sprint - Ericsson, AlcaLu, Samsung T-Mobile - Ericsson, NSN MetroPCS - Ericsson, Samsung C-Spire - AlcaLu AlcaLu = Alcatel-Lucent NSN = Nokia Siemens Networks ...and yes, Ericsson is really busy rolling out LTE, it seems.
  24. Ok guys, discovered another new live LTE site between Atlanta and Athens, in Duluth area. Approx address for reference: Steak N' Shake 820 Lawrenceville Suwanee Rd Lawrenceville, GA 30043 If you drive around that area, I saw up to 20mb down / 10mb up. YMMV depending on how close to the tower, it was dark and I had never been to the area before, so no time to investigate (was on way home from braves game, GO BRAVES!)
  25. How did sprint stock go up to $4.05 a share today when they reported a loss of 1.4 billion? Am I missing anything? I hope it continues to go up!
