  1. Pixel 2 XL Preview/User Thread

I'm not quite ready for losing the headphone jack, so might stick with my Pixel XL 128GB for one more year. While I see usb-c someday being a solution along with bluetooth, but when you're traveling and trying to watch a movie on your seatback screen, you better have headphones that work with the headphone jack. Getting lightning or USB-C or BT headphones doesn't solve that problem. argh. Buying more dongles or new headphones doesn't resound well with my mantra of traveling light. Now, if Sprint + TM merger happens AND Pixel 2 supports B71.... that might be a different story.

You're right. I'm actually never near any of the 3x sites. Good thing that they are showing up quickly!

Should we give up hope on 3x CA on the Pixel XL?

  5. What's in the Box? Oh, oh, oh, it's Magic.

Great article. Any idea how Voice is handled? Does the Magic Box provide 1x Voice via 800, 1900 or does voice have to fall back to the tower?

Well, if you look at your recent updates, you'll see that "carrier services" app was updated. Who knows what changed.

Yea, I was going through feedly and reading news. Then again, my phone could've been doing something else, so really need to pay attention to those data saver modes. Kinda sad they don't just throttle you or allow messaging traffic to go through. Cuz if you're on iphone, you need data for imessage. On Android, at least we get "downgraded" to SMS which is unlimited while roaming.

Heard that April release will be 7.1.2, so that confirms further that it's definitely more than patches.

Any word if 3x CA got flipped on as part of the March update?
  10. HTC/Google Pixel and Pixel XL Users Thread

Have not seen LTE roaming yet. But I did go through my 100MB of 1xRTT roaming in one night and then couldn't send messages to friends anymore - had to call. :/

Someone put a lot of effort analyzing CA on pixel XL. Sadly not on Sprint, but very informative. http://cellularinsights.com/pixel-xl-four-months-later/

https://www.wirelessweek.com/news/2017/01/sprint-enables-3-carrier-aggregation-more-devices A Sprint spokeswoman on Tuesday said the carrier flipped the switch on three-carrier aggregation, pushing out automatic updates to enable the technology on six new devices. According to the spokeswoman, Sprint customers using the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, LG V20, and LG G5 received the update on Friday. The move raised the total number of three-carrier aggregation-enabled devices on Sprint’s network to seven; HTC’s Bolt recently launched with three-carrier aggregation enabled out of the box. The spokeswoman said a total of 13 devices are three-carrier aggregation capable, but the carrier has yet to enable the feature on the other six devices. ----------------------- Pixel isn't called out here, but here's to hoping that with the February update, 3x CA gets flipped on on the Pixel.

    Oops... meant Nexus 6P...

Until SCP finds a way to detect CA status, one way is to get out an old phone that can only do 2xCA (like Nexus 6P) and set it next to your 3xCA phone (like Pixel XL) and run side by side speed test. If 3x CA is indeed enabled, then you should see roughly 50% higher speeds. If speeds are the same, then 3xCA is probably not enabled either on the tower or your phone. Seeing 2nd and 3rd carrier in SCP is largely a "hint" that this tower probably does or will support some level of CA.

BTW. According to this post, despite the fact that Pixel support 3x CA, it seems like Sprint needs to whitelist our phones to use it: https://www.cnet.com/news/sprints-hidden-a-secret-turbo-boost-in-your-phone/ "The capability, which Sprint plans to deliver as a software update pushed over the air, will let Sprint's phones tap into a technology called 3 x carrier aggregation -- a technical term for Sprint's ability to create a fatter pipe to deliver you YouTube videos and Taylor Swift songs. Other devices slated to get an update include LG's G5 and Google's Pixel." That explains why Pixel XL doesn't seem to be seeing any faster speeds than Nexus 6P. Wonder if B25-B25 2x CA is enabled with this update too.
