  1. What does a brown dot mean on the (San Diego) upgrade map? I left Sprint for Tmo, but still come back to check the status of the upgrades near my house, and my work. Both locations happen to be near brown dots on the map, which somehow equates to very bad Sprint service. If you need an example you can check out the corner of Genesee and Balboa, or the corner of College Ave and Navajo Dr.
  2. Yeah, I don't know why people are so excited for the first tri-band LTE phone because it will be long obsolete before Sprint gets it up and running.
  3. Oh, I was fully aware, but I pre-ordered the phone because my gadget lust got the better of me. That's why I waited a month before buying the Moto X.
  4. The RF performance seems to be really solid. One of the biggest problems with the EVO 4G LTE was it had a really tough time switching between signal types (4G, 3G, wifi) and would get hung up in sort of a limbo deciding what to do. This phone switches between LTE, HSPA+, and wifi seemlesly. When I was a Sensorly addict, and would actively seek out Sprint 4G areas. I think the best I ever got was around 13-15 mbps. In L.A. where LTE is pretty pervasive it fluctuated greatly from 3 mbps to probably around 15. I have Tmo LTE most places I go. In Claremeont where I work I have full 4-bars of LTE and consistently get over 20 mbps. I live in the Del Cerro/Allied Gardens area where signal varies from 2-4 full bars. At home I have consistent 2 bars LTE and get between 8 and 12 mbps. I get full LTE at SDSU, but the signal penetration is week in the buildings, and I get zero signal in the concrete parking structures. The few places I have dropped down to HSPA+ I average around 7 mbps. I don't really know what the numbers mean, but in Signal Check Pro under LTE I see: RSRP: -72 dBm (31 asu) RSRQ: -7 dB, SNR: 24.0 dB GCI: 21363203, PCI: 76 GSM RSSI: -85dBm (90 asu), BER:0% LAC: 12130, CID: 21363203 My wife still has her iPhone 5, and I gave my son my EVO, so I'll still be here checking for updates. I just wanted to thank you, Robert and AJ, and all other contributors for the information you provide to us cell phone geeks.
  5. Is the MoPho 4G/Q a Sprint only device? I jumped to T-mobile. If you can tell me how to call up the engineering screen I'll try to post it.
  6. I got this phone over the weekend, and let me just say it is the best performing phone I have ever used. Feels perfect in the hand (reminds me of the Nexus One), extremely snappy, active notifications are great, and it looks cool too. I was a little worried the active notifications would be a bit gimmicky and drain battery life, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. I highly recommend this phone to anyone who will listen. This is compared to phones I have owned or used extensively: Nexus one, iPhone 3/GS, OG EVO 4G, GS3, Nexus S, and the EVO 4G LTE. You may have noticed in my profile I have jumped to Tmo. I just cant wait any longer for the empty promise of 4G Sprint service in San Diego, as they are already approaching a year behind schedule, degrading service, and Soft Bank stating things are admittedly going to take one to two more years. I have passed my EVO onto my son, and have two other phones still on Sprint, so I have not abandoned them altogether. Perhaps I'll be back one day. So long, and thanks for the fish. Mike
  7. Funny thing is the only Android/Sprint news feed I don't follow is newsroom.sprint.com Btw, I love how they have a picture of a guy poking at an iPhone4 next to the Moto X announcement.
  8. Android Central is reporting the Moto X will be available starting tomorrow (September 6) through Sprint. Moto Maker will be available in the coming months as AT&T has the exclusive on that until sometime in November.
  9. I was just up in Pasadena for 4-days and it was really nice having solid, consistent 4G. On my EVO 4G LTE I was averaging 10mbps, but at the same time my wife's iPhone5 was getting about 20mbps. I'm tired of being teased with 4G around here. When the Moto X comes out next month, if things haven't improved by then, I'm seriously considering jumping ship. Sprint's done a good job at wearing out a loyal customer. I know the just wait, just wait, things will get better argument...but I've been just waiting since my original EVO 4G wimax days. I'm on the edge, man..talk me off the edge!
  10. I work at the corner of Balboa and Genessee and I have been getting 1.5 to 1.9 mbps for at least six months now. All of Clairemont has been largely ignored so far according to the upgrade map.
  11. I live in Del Cerro/Allied Gardens area, and prior to yesterday 3G had been spotty at best. Last night I almost fell off my couch when I noticed the 4G indicator on my phone. Speeds were horrible, but but I went out to map anyway. After about 10 minutes of mapping with an apparently good signal...poof...it disappeared. Sadly, none of it registered with Sensorly. It's been 12 hours. I watch the antennas at the corner of Navajo/College everyday, and they have not been touched. The site on Waring by Foster's freeze was upgraded about two months ago, so I'm thinking that is the site broadcasting the 4G. Hopefully it will come back soon...and stay on.
  12. If you click the "sites complete" link you posted earlier and zoom in on the Alcatel Lucent map it shows you red and yellow flags for sites completed. There is a legend at the bottom of the map. Caution: We're not allowed to post links to sponsor forum topics in non-pay areas.
  13. Will all the red 3G flags eventually convert to yellow 3G/4G flags when they officially launch the market? Why isn't every site upgraded to 3G/4G when it get its NV upgrade?
  14. Sorry, mostly dropped calls, but a lot of data drop outs too. I got rid of my land about two years ago because the quality of Sprint's network was very good. Not so much lately.
  15. Slow around here lately. It seems like they just bounce around. I've been watching the progress since the beginning and I can't discern any rhyme or reason to the order in which they move. I'm sure they have they're reasons though. As things "progress" Sprint's service gets worse and worse though. I know it's the testing phase and that BS, but it's been ridiculous lately. I'm having flashbacks to when I was on AT&T. I used to be really excited for them to upgrade the tower by house, but now I hope they hold off to the end because the "old" 3G antennas are working just fine. Rant done.
