  1. And yet Verizon allowed these people to become customers. They showed the coverage. They allowed the customers to join. Even though Verizon really is being asshats to rural customers and is giving rural Mainiacs the big middle finger here, I do respect that they have the right to do this. But I kind of like them getting the black eye publicly for this. They created the issue and they are showing their true colors. They really have no interest in rural customers. They just want a cheap place for their urban customers to roam when travelling. And now rural customers can make their buying decisions accordingly. USCC is a better fit for them anyway. But Verizon deserves to take this on the chin publicly. They could have stopped these customers from joining to begin with. They didn't. They were hoping they wouldn't use the network much. And now they want to put the toothpaste back in the tube. It's a one way street with Big Red. The house always wins. In every single county. Every day.

  2. It should be a top priority. Upload is very important as more and more people upload pictures, videos, and host live streams on social media. Those UL speeds reflect this. Too many people uploading junk to the internet. Personally, I don't get the need for people to have their lives displayed 24/7. But I'm sure I'm in the minority...now get off my lawn.

  3. So far, I'm having a pleasant experience with the new site software, and I wither it be on Samsung mobile browser beta on my HTC or Microsoft edge on my computers.

  4. It has an LTE radio, so that requires a sim card to authenticate on the network. Sim cards are given numbers to make the handshake, also so the network knows who it is talking to on a data call. I believe this is why it is attached to a line. That and it may offer some form of accounting for magic box locations, inventory, and user counts.

  5. I'm glad things are really ramping up fast for Sprint. I think that both Sprint and T-Mobile can really stand on their own without a merger between the two. I would rather them not merge but we'll see what happens.

  6. If USCC was no longer being counted as roaming data, that would be phenomenal. Keep us posted.

  7. Beta update 4.453b uploading now! Just some little stuff.. but little stuff is good. A few more changes than I initially expected, so I'm gonna let you guys play with it for a couple days before it goes to the masses, just in case I missed something. -Mike

  8. Hopefully this will shut some people up for a bit. I know we're waiting to see execution of this but Sprint is definitely more competent and on a better footing now than ever before. It seems like we get more exciting info from these side engagements than we do during the quarterly reports.

  9. I do not recall ever seeing Sprint count Airaves in new customer counts/new line additions. So I would not expect them to use Magic Boxes to 'pad numbers' either. They have counted new lines with free tablet giveaways, but they actually add a new line of service that is not free forever. Just for a promotional time. And this is something that all carriers do. Whether for free phones or free tablets that provide service. But I think we all see a distinctive difference between phones/tablets and Airaves/Magic Boxes, regardless if a phone number is assigned to the device.

  10. asking a sprint chat rep a question like that (or really any question, imo) is just asking for possibly unreliable information. you think maybe they will give me back the years of taxes and fees i paid on my airave "line"?

  12. You should have had this: https://www.sprint.com/en/support/solutions/international/faqs-about-premium-international-experience.html I am in Montreal a few weeks a month for work, and I find the LTE coverage provided by Rogers is pretty impressive. I'd call into customer care and explain what happened - I'm fairly sure you should have Premium International Experience. edit: @Rawvega beat me to it.

  13. You shouldn't have had to pay for high speed data in Canada anyway. In addition to Global Roaming, did you also have the $0 Premium International Experience enabled on your line(s)?

  15. I have an iPhone and have been fortunate to not have any issues with it connecting to my MB at all. I received my MB on Wednesday. After plugging it in and letting it do its thing for a couple of hours, I witnessed my signal strength go from -114 dBm to -69 dBm B41 while I was using my phone. Pretty neat to witness. Since then, my phone has automatically locked onto the MB B41 signal whenever I pull into my driveway. I'm on a 6S+ and haven't had to reset my phone, do a PRL update, airplane mode, or anything else. My house is in a pocket of pretty weak B41, and B25 is weak indoors, so that could be why my phone is connecting so well to the MB. Maybe I'm just lucky. I hope this helps and that your MB starts working out for you!

  16. Also note that in some cases it's the macro network not handing you off due to handoff thresholds for each band. They don't want people ping ponging so it may take some time for optimization of handoffs to occur.

  17. Once upon a time, BSLs we're the actual site coordinates, but now a vast majority use what are called offsets. Triangulation with the BSL coordinates of all sectors is the only way to narrow down the approximate location. Also, BSLs are a CDMA technology feature. Small cells are LTE only. That's where site notes on SCP comes into play.

  18. was walking past a sprint store in NYC yesterday night and figured it open SCP to see if I was connect to any sort of small cell in the store. To my surprise I was connected to a MM, which is odd when you are in the middle of the block. Most MM in NYC are on street corners. After walking past the first window and past the door I saw a magic box sitting in the 2nd window.

  19. I drove to Temecula yesterday with CellMapper on my Sprint line (Unlocked Galaxy S8)--it showed 2 new B26 LTE connections on the 91 in Orange County and a half-dozen B26 LTE connections on the 15 between Corona/Temecula in Riverside. Maybe it's COMING SOON!

  20. I haven't done any scientific tests but I'm having no problem getting band 41 or LTE in general. On a side note. This is the first phone I had from Sprint that can handoff between WiFi calling and LTE calling.

  21. Has anyone who roams on US Cellular (LTE or EVDO) noticed that roaming traffic is no longer being updated in account usage (as roaming)? I only noticed around labor day time frame, at the same time i noticed that i was no longer limited to about 2 mbits. Labor day weekend i put through about 1.5 gigs of data on USCC and it was not reflected and i was not cut off but then my statement cut and everything got reset and here we are several weeks into a new period and again no roaming traffic has been counted, still set to zero. I used about 150 megabytes yesterday afternoon but i can not tell if it was added to my normal non-roaming LTE totals or not.

  25. Yes as I mentioned in a few earlier posts, I'll be adding 0E8, 0EE, and 0EF to the Magic Box list. A public update with those changes and a couple other minor tweaks should be ready by tonight sometime this weekend. I don't need more examples of those, but if anything else is spotted in the wild, please let me know. -Mike

  26. And we know that there are more green areas than shown. Like in South Dakota. They already have permits and leases going, but were not reflected in the map. Hopefully it's an example of under promise, over deliver.

  27. 2.2M Magic Boxes? That's a serious production run. Perhaps we'll see models which transmit more than single carrier of Band 41 as a clean signal? 8K new Macro Tower Sites should expand the network quite nicely, but I'm surprised to see such an investment in Mini Macros (45K new sites) when they are currently limited to 2CA. I imagine the same limitation applies to Strandmounts and AirPoles (15K)? 30k Tower Upgrades: Given that Sprint has approximately 50,000 Sites currently, that's a substantial number that will upgraded. Here's what Marcelo said at the Conference: http://www.seekingalpha.com/article/4107108 Marcelo Claure Yes. I think the scenario where, I don't think we have done a great job of explaining. So I am going to try to do this. You have to look at the strength from Sprint, all the way down from 2013 to this year. And if you average that, you are going to realize, that Sprint was spending, potentially a larger amount as a percentage of service revenue than our competitors. You go back to 2013-2014, we are spending close to 20%, and now we are spending in the mid-teens. So if you average, because there are spending cycles in which you upgrade your network, you are going to spend more. So from that end, we feel very good at how we manage our CapEx. Secondly, is we have a different culture. When I came to Sprint, hey this is the CapEx budget, and then everybody in the network team believed that it was actually good to go spend that money at whatever expense, because next year was going to be gone. Today, we setup a budget, but we look at every single dollar that comes out, to make sure we are not overspending, that we are not buying the wrong inventory, that we are not overpaying as to build our network. So we have a very disciplined amount, in terms of how do we spend. Now going forward what are we going to do? I think we have by far, the most diverse toolkit. We are going to get back at expanding our coverage. We plan to add a few thousand macro sites in the next 18 months. We have launched a massive upgrade, in terms of our existing towers or existing macro-sites, in which I expect every one or -- very-very high 90s, that every single one of our site should have 800, 1.9 and 2.5. These are things that we hadn't done in the last three years. But the time has come now to expand our coverage, and basically to make sure that every single one of our towers have basically three sites. We have done it in specific markets and the results have been incredible. Whenever we pull our entire kit of macro, macro upgrades, or mini-macros, we basically are by far the best network. And now, that we have a business that has been stable, you are going to see higher levels of investment. In addition, we are going to continue the massive deployment that we have of mini-macros or small cells, that is going quite well. We have a network meeting every week. Every week, we are getting more and more permits. I am very happy with all the states signing the small cell bill, that basically every single week, we get more approvals on the previous week, which has been hard, because now I think most cities and counties have realized that actually having a smart connected city is good for them. And then, our latest innovation, which is the magic box, is working incredibly well. We are sold out and we already tried to deploy. There are no longer thousands. By the end of this year, we are going to have hundreds of thousands of small cell or mini-macro -- what we call the magic boxes, customer's homes. So when you look at a combination, magic boxes, mini-macros, site upgrades, new macro towers, or new macro site. I think you are going to see our network continues to get better. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Much more in there!!

  30. Hot off the Goldman Sachs Investor call with Marcelo Claure... Highlights at 35 mins into the call (11:05 Eastern) -Sprint will add 2000 Macro sites (no time frame given) - Will have EVERY cell site with 800, 1.9 and 2.5 (No time frame given) - Will deploy many thousands of mini macro and such in addition to the Macro sites. -Capex will be $5-7 billion this year and "At least that much next year or more".... Marcelo's thoughts were that now that Sprint is growth positive and cash positive (his words) Sprint can now invest heavily and expand it's footprint.

  31. I've made navigation and color toning changes to help readability and help you all get around the site. Web site and mobile site. With the changes, I'm starting to dig it. Especially the mobile site. I'm actually liking it much better than Tapatalk. IP Board responded to my support request and it made no difference when I re-installed Tapatalk. I don't know what further to do at this point on that front. But to wait for Tapatalk's next update for IP Board 4.2. Hope you are finding the site more usable now. More to do. Going to get more coffee. Robert

  32. Ive been reading some comments in various local facebook groups and what not and it seems the customers up in this county who signed up for verizon did get some pushback initially. One woman, while at the verizon store signing up, was declined service based on her home zip code so the nice rep simply put in the zip code to maines largest city to establish service (and obviously establish his commission) and then once the account was up and running the woman then went and updated her address to her actual address in this roaming partners area. there was only about 2,000 customers effected by this up this way so i do not think it would be far fetched to think many of these people were signed up under similar circumstances. i put cell phone sales reps in the same group as car salesmen.
