Okay I am a sponsor now, so i can see the maps where the towers are in my area. Is it considered trespassing to drive down the roads where the towers are? Most of them are kinda in areas where people don't generally go to. I don't want to get in trouble for driving to the sites and taking pictures. Also is posting the coordinates of sites against the rules?

If there's no gate, fence or no trespassing sign, then unless it's obviously on private property it should be ok.

As for discussion of locations, probably best to use the sponsor forums.

Either use this existing thread: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/topic/530-network-vision-site-map-arkansas-kansas-missouri-oklahoma-markets/page__pid__118427__st__380#entry118427

Or create a new one here: http://s4gru.com/index.php?/forum/30-s4gru-sponsors-forum/

Then you don't have to worry about what information you're posting.

How do i become a sponsor? I can help with info from towers in the metro east....from Alton to Collinsville and Collinsville to Granite City. How do i know where the towers are? Just tell me what I need to do and I'll do it.

I actually live in the Alton, Godfrey area. Haven't even heard about work starting here yet. nor have I seen anything yet. Kinda sucks.

Well if you look at the map there are some sites that are being worked on in North (St Lous) County and West County. And with them being so close to being wrapped up in Kansas it can't be too far off. And if there is no one giving updates on these towers who is to know? I am going to try to drive by a coupe of the towers in Alton today to just peek around and see if anything looks changed or anything.

With the weather lately, probably not much activity. I suspect things will continue to be slow until April, as Spring has been delayed several weeks .... ;)

I went by a Sprint Tower today. Took some shots just for comparison for later on down the road. Can someone take a look at this tower and tell me what I am looking at? I'm 99% sure that none of the Sprint stuff is NV related. Which stuff is Sprint? That way i know if anything is changed down the road.

A site was signed off as 3G complete in St. Louis.

Not sure if it was full build or not.... Robert?

Second level is the only one that has anything like Sprint on it from what I can tell.

Ah, I see it on the map. Cool...What does this mean exactly? Why are they installing new 3G sites? Consider me a noob but I appreciate all of the info.

Not installing new, replacing. Every Sprint site is getting an overhaul as part of the Network Vision project. This includes new equipment that replaces the legacy equipment. The new NV panels on the towers are capable of transmitting the upgraded 3G as well as LTE from the same panel. The 3G acceptance means that NV equipment has been installed, and the 3G side of it has been accepted, however the LTE side has not. Likely the NV equipment is not yet live, as 3G is brought online only when a cluset of sites have been upgraded.

Nothing new to see at the Dellwood rec center site but the service is the best I have ever gotten there by at least double the data of the next highest test and 10-20x normal. 1.23 mbps down/.52 up.

The ping was 172 ms. What's the normal ping for a 3G site with NV level backhaul? Does the ping further improve with new cabinets and gear?

Just a bit of insight. I live near UMD in Duluth, MN. Sprint's signal is clearly much 'dirtier' with a 1.0 SNR compared to T-Mobile's 20.4 SNR. I don't have a screenshot from the same time, but I get about a 22 to 29 SNR with T. I know that AT&T uses RRU's but I'm not too sure about Sprint or T-Mobile. Also, I didn't even know they had L2500 where I live, but I force checked it on my Samsung S7 (AT&T).

Karma Go Hotspot Discussion & User Thread

Since we don't have an official spot for this little hotspot, I'd like to make one... meet the Karma Go hotspot. Running off the Sprint LTE network, the Go is a Spark/LTE Enhanced enabled, tri-band hotspot.

Currently it runs for $149. Down below in post #2 you'll find all the information that I've compiled about Go.

For anyone who has never heard of Karma, check out the Karma Go.
If you'd like to purchase the Karma, PM me and I can give you my referral code for an extra $10 off your purchase!
Be sure to watch for sales to get the Go at $99 and if you add my code in, $89!

Not at this time... Check back soon!

Did you know that with many Sprint (Uniband) LTE Android devices, the signal strength indicator at the top does not show your LTE signal strength? Even if 4G or LTE is displayed next to it?

That's right!  This signal displayed here is your 1x (voice signal), and it is not your 3G EVDO signal strength, nor your LTE signal strength.  Regardless of whether it says 3G or 4G next to it. This is the cause of a lot of confusion.  Also, third party apps like NetMonitor do not show accurate LTE signal strengths. They also only show the 1x signal strength, even though they may reference being connected to LTE.
The purpose of this thread is to help educate the masses, because many people think they have a strong LTE signal, when in fact they do not. And then they are unhappy, thinking that Sprint LTE is really slow, even with a strong signal. LTE performance is very signal strength dependent. So, when you have a weak signal, you can expect much slower than peak results.

There is only one accurate way to get your LTE signal strength, and that is from your LTE Engineering screen in your Debug menu. And we will discuss the different ways to get that below.

...In HTC, Motorola & LG Sprint LTE devices:
Go in to your phone app, and dial ##DEBUG# Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number under RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. ...In Samsung Sprint LTE devices:
Go in to your phone app, and dial ##DEBUG# Enter 777468 for your lock code Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number next to RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. ...In the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 5:
Go in to your phone app, and dial *#*#DEBUG#*#* Enter 777468 for your lock code Select LTE Engineering Go down to RSRP. The number next to RSRP shown in dBm is your LTE signal strength. The LTE Signal Strength Scale:

Now you have determined your actual LTE signal strength in dBms your device is receiving, you can use the following scale below to determine its strength:
Better than -88dBm RSRP is a strong signal Between -89dBm and -96dBm is a very good signal Between -97dBm and -105dBm is good Between -106dBm and -112dBm is fair Worse than -113dBm RSRP is poor Feel free to link people to this thread for explanation. Hopefully, this will clear up some confusion out there!

    • you'll need to flash the Sprint firmware.
    • There are really two providers in Canada: ROGERS and TELUS/Bell. TELUS and Bell operate the same network.
    • How is Canada's three wireless companies working out...
    • No. You are not based in reality if you think the wireless market is going to stagnate if Sprint and T-Mobile merge. 5g is coming and will be pushed by everyone in the market place.    The question is weather you want it to follow the same pattern LTE did or not. Would you like the big two to deploy a really solid 5g network and the other two to deploy an uneven networks or 3 solid th networks?    You anti-merger people dont understand the role capital intensive industries play in shaping such markets.  If a market is capital intensive it is more efficient with fewer players. Imgaine if the market still looked like it did in 2003, we would have plenty of players and regional plans with not even 3g deployed.   Sprint has 30 billion. They are able to increase CAPEX this year because they don't have much maturing this year.  This is not the case the next two years which means they are likely to starve their network again over that time. Mean while the big two aren't going to stand still. Sprint isn't growing top line income fast enough to make themselves viable on their own.
    • This merger would stagnate the wireless market it would stink almost immediately.  You are pro-merger but already wondering if they would have capital to build and expand the network.  Sprint now has positive revenue to increase CAPEX for additional B41, MIMO, and 5G why hault the improvements that Sprint has been making?   You guys screaming pro merger really need to sit back and really think, are you willing to see less competition and increasing wireless bills?  Not to mention that unlimited will be a thing of the past, after all it was Sprint and T-Mobile that made the big two offer unlimited.  If this merger goes through I don't want to hear complaining I am taking names...
