It (Note5) did occasionally, but I think that was a fluke. S8+ does all the time (obviously).

It did.

If I'm not mistaking, all CCA/RRPP need to be SRLTE capable in order to roam.

Hey the bestbuy unit was able to play 1440p at 60fps in YouTube. Has anyone been able to do this yet? Mine will only do the usual 1440p at 30 fps.

Have you search youtube for "1440p 60fps"? There are not many videos that show the 1440p 60fps as an option. I have only found video games and a couple GoPro videos. Most of the 4k 60fps videos I glanced at do not show the 1440p 60fps option only the videos shot in 1440p 60fps.

I love everything about this device.  My only real complaint is the fingerprint scanner location but I find myself using the iris scanner 90% of the time anyway.  And speaking of the iris scanner, it works perfectly for me except for when I'm outside in the day time which then forces me to use the fingerprint or password.  If you are on the fence whether to buy this or wait for the note 8 then I could understand but if you don't care then s8+ is an excellent device to own.

I'd echo this, but add that I'm falling into this new usage pattern with unlocking the phone. It's still a bit quirky when the face and iris don't work, then I have to reach up to the finger printer scanner.  I also find that the double tap power button to launch camera isn't as reliable as the double tap the home button from the Note5, but still works.  Again, some of this is on me for speed of tapping perhaps?

I also thought I'd have a hard time gripping the phone or have errant touches on the sides, etc. but none of that has happened. Samsung has tuned the software pretty well on this beast.  Including that amazing battery life I've posted about here before.  I do think the camera is not much better than the Note5, but time will tell as I take more and more photos and perhaps Samsung tweaks their software some.

Very pleased with my purchase thus far.  You get used to this huge screen so quickly, looking at my kids S5 phone looks like I'm looking at the first touch screen phone. lol.

Cool, yeah, I was thinking about getting just the S8 (not plus) later this year.

I finally got mine and have had it less than 24 hours, and I'm blown away. I've had probably 20 smart phones, switching between a lot of providers but mainly HTC & Samsung. To me -- first impression is this is a game changer. Its all about the execution of the product, the premium product, feel in the hand in both hardware and software. you really just have to use it to understand.

The options in software and features provided make it such a perfectly rounded product that seems hard to beat by anyone else.

An initial comment on coverage... I was in a casino in Wisconsin yesterday that I typically have 0 signal and can't transfer any data with my HTC 10 (and I think the same was true with my Galaxy S6)... with the S8+ the signal was enough that I was able to transfer data with very little frustration. It was still a poor signal, but usable. Before I would shut my phone off because it was so useless at that location, now I'm able to check my email after I lost all my money gambling.

Also on my way home back in Minnesota, there is one dead spot that I always drop phone calls. I tried a call in that same area and had no problems with the new device.

I'm more concerned with usable data coverage than I am with internet speeds. With that in mind, would I benefit from prioritizing my bands B25, B26, B41 instead of the opposite order which people seem to prefer for faster speeds?

Just picked up a generic insignia black case from bestbuy, grip is lacking and protection is limited but it's super thin and makes using the fingerprint 10x easier due to the slight lip at the edge of the fingerprint so your no longer hunting for scanner itself.

Changing band priority did help with my case but it really depends on your market. My market b25 on most towers are well under 2 mbps and most are 1 or less but only because b41 and wideband b25 are not around yet. Battery life is crazy good. I have used this phone alot today starting off charge at 10am and I'm still at 70% as of right now at 620pm.

doesn't the network determine where to put you and not the handset, no matter what the handset is set at?

That's what we though but the device does have some say so. Depends on how good it is at a particular band.

Seriously, 42 minutes on battery and still at 100%. Sure it was just sitting there on my desk, but that's ridic. I've never, ever, ever, ever had a device like this. 920d57c59c5eaad998d642ac4711a591.jpg

I've never really encountered any issues with the fingerprint scanner. I don't smudge my camera and it's not that hard for me to reach on my S8+.

My roommate who bought an S8 hasn't complained about it either.

I don't think 256/64 qam is active at least at universal studios from what I see. GS7 and GS8+ speeds are about the same on b25 15mhz.

You have a Samsung Galaxy S8, and your roommate got one, too.  Do I sense a "Single White Female" vibe?

So at universal right now and my phone so far in the last 7 hours being here has only choose b41 at city walk that's it. My GS7 has been on b41 at least 50% of the time. This phone needs a update but the good news is b25 is faster by a mile anyway.

Today I've been having a lot of freeze-up issues after unlocking the phone. Perhaps the cpu is spinning up after being dormant and it's having issues with that, or perhaps some sort of memory issue, but it will lock up for a solid 10-20 seconds, really frustrating. I'm waiting so long for it to accept touch input that I'm thinking the phone is going to reboot itself, but it doesn't and eventually starts responding.

Also it seems like the phone's attempt at doing the face-unlock is hit or miss. The icon doesn't even suggest it's trying to do a face unlock most of the time, and I just have to enter my pin. I had thought that somehow got shut off and when I went in to check its setting it did the face unlock that time, so I dunno whats going on there.

I'm here looking for answers to a simple question. Where is this mystery Sprint signal coming from? For the past few weeks I've received a signal on multiple Sprint devices, two Sprint devices with roaming turned off, and two Virgin Mobile phones and Virgin Mobile phones can't roam, the other rate plans might be able but I'm talk about Virgin Mobile devices from before they introduced all those other plans. What I'm making clear is these devices have to be picking up a Sprint signal, plus I've downloaded the SignalCheck Pro app which has indicated two different signals 1XRTT and 1X800.

The signal only last for about 8 hours each morning and begins coming in and out towards the end of each morning. I try making a call and it fails, and it doesn't get any data at all. I try each device and they all do the same thing they have a signal and very strong signal with no data, and voice doesn't go threw, I haven't tried sending a text figured no data, no voice then there must be no text.

I read about some "projects"  that Sprint has going on Project Ocean and Project Cedar. Since Project Ocean is suppose to be taking place in Missouri and I live so close to the Iowa, Missouri line, I figured if there is a tower going up maybe it is possible I'm getting a signal from it, in the early stages. I really don't know what is going on, if Sprint is launching service, putting up new towers and that signal finally comes, and stays, and works. I'll be back full time on the Sprint ban wagon. Unfortunately, I live in an area not served by (according to experience and coverage map) Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint. Not even the two Iowa carriers i Wireless or Chat Mobility serve my area, go 10, 15 or 20 miles in any direction your good, here, wireless dead zone, no choice of carriers. And if Sprint puts a tower here if I finally get an answer and learn that signal will soon come and stay and work I'll finally have a choice.

So if anyone has any ideas, has experienced this in other parts of the country or has any idea what could be going on please say. Any information is better than not knowing, and together maybe this will be answered.

Try to make this as short and simple as possible. I have three devices; 2 of which are on the same plan and the third on a separate plan.

The third device is my tab 4 which is picking up SprintB41 site 310120 just great. I get 3 bars downstairs.

My other two devices; Galaxy Note 4 & Galaxy Note Edge for some reason will not pick up this tower. I have tried PRL updates, Profile updates, restarted the phones and all I can get them to connect to is a ClearwireB41 site.

More background info...all devices have same Sim card as when purchased, tablet stays off 3/4 of the day and my phones are on when I wake up and turn them off at night. No matter where I go inside or out my phones won't connect to the Sprint site.

Anybody have any ideas before I call Sprint trying to figure something out? I'm not sure how long the tablet has been able to connect to this site so I'm not sure what to think of it besides agitated that the tablet of all things is connecting. I posted two photos; one of the tablet connected to the Sprint site; second of the Clear wire site my phones connect to.

      Thanks in advance.

The next front in the prepaid wars: Ting is adding support for GSM/WCDMA/3GPP devices (apparently as a MVNO of T-Mobile, directly or indirectly, if the coverage map is to be believed) and will allow you to have GSM and CDMA devices on the same account, apparently going a step further than the Straight Talk empire. LTE data is apparently included, but not depicted on the maps.

      http://www.androidcentral.com/sprint-mvno-ting-support-gsm-starting-february-2015

Now a real Ting coup would be to allow access to both the Sprint and T-Mobile networks on a single line without a SIM swap if you have a device that works on both (like Nexus 5/6 etc.). Technically devices without a firmware lockout of domestic competitor networks, like the Nexus 5 and 6 and the new devices coming in a few months, should be able to do it.

From the FireceWireless website: NetZero to ditch Verizon in favor of Sprint:

      http://www.fiercewireless.com/story/netzero-ditches-verizon-contract-will-launch-sprints-cdma-network/2014-01-15?utm_medium=nl&utm_source=internal

      Data Plans:

The no-contract NetZero Sprint 3G plans break down as follows:
Free: No monthly fees, data allotment of 200 MB per billing cycle. Free plan limited to 12 months only. Basic: $9.95 per month, 500 MB per billing cycle. Plus: $19.95 per month, 1 GB per billing cycle. Pro: $34.95 per month, 2 GB per billing cycle. Platinum: $49.95 per month, 4 GB per billing cycle.

Will 1900 be reframed for LTE only? Or is 1x Advanced not worth it at such a high frequency?

    • There are positives to be had if there is a merger, for sure.  I don't believe a merger is bad in every way. And if it happens, there will be things that I will like. I just believe, at this time, all things considered, I'd prefer they'd be separate.  Just my opinion, and I respect the opinions of others points as well.  Because I considered them, and they are marked in the 'pro' column for me. I like where Sprint is going now more than ever in it's past.  And Sprint's road to "5G" is less capital intensive than the others because of spectrum and equipment deployed.
    • I was also under the impression that site would be in the town of Wall. And the closest planned site to Wall in my maps is in New Underwood... Wish we had some eyes out there.
    • I don't think a merger will help consumers much.  TMobile capex is $5b.  Sprint might spend $5b. A merged company still could have $10b, but it will take years and a LOT of money to consolidate assets. There is going to be a lot of work, and a lot of money that will not go into making the network better, but making 2 networks 1. If you want to see a combined company make ProjectFi your carrier. Just look at some recent mergers.  Charter is doing horrible. AT&T and DirecTV brought no value but just increased TV bills. Large acquisitions tend not to benefit the customers but more so investors and those on the board who get millions for making a deal happen. As an investor I can see the excitement, but not so much a customer.
    • The total percent of subscribers graph shows everything you need to know about the current US wireless industry.  Verizon has ~35%, AT&T has ~35%, and all the other competitors are competing for the final 25% to 30%.  This also means that 70% to 75% of all the profits are split between AT&T and Verizon which gives them the money to keep deploying and keeps them with much larger, stronger networks.  If AT&T and Verizon can each afford to spend $10 billion+ on their networks each year, no smaller competitor can hope to keep up.
    • I see the purple on the Minuteman Site. I've been to it many sites. Very friendly horse next to it. It's a well established AT&T Guyed Wire Site.  It's possible this might be AT&T LTE Roaming pollution on Sensorly.  Especially given the strength of the report. I was expecting the Sprint site in this area to be in the town site of Wall itself.  I guess it's possible Sprint chose this site instead.  If I still lived in the area, I'd go check it out. But alas..
