Hey the bestbuy unit was able to play 1440p at 60fps in YouTube. Has anyone been able to do this yet? Mine will only do the usual 1440p at 30 fps.

Have you search youtube for "1440p 60fps"? There are not many videos that show the 1440p 60fps as an option. I have only found video games and a couple GoPro videos. Most of the 4k 60fps videos I glanced at do not show the 1440p 60fps option only the videos shot in 1440p 60fps.

So, how's everybody enjoying those new GS8's?  Any reviews?

I love everything about this device.  My only real complaint is the fingerprint scanner location but I find myself using the iris scanner 90% of the time anyway.  And speaking of the iris scanner, it works perfectly for me except for when I'm outside in the day time which then forces me to use the fingerprint or password.  If you are on the fence whether to buy this or wait for the note 8 then I could understand but if you don't care then s8+ is an excellent device to own.

I'd echo this, but add that I'm falling into this new usage pattern with unlocking the phone. It's still a bit quirky when the face and iris don't work, then I have to reach up to the finger printer scanner.  I also find that the double tap power button to launch camera isn't as reliable as the double tap the home button from the Note5, but still works.  Again, some of this is on me for speed of tapping perhaps?

I also thought I'd have a hard time gripping the phone or have errant touches on the sides, etc. but none of that has happened. Samsung has tuned the software pretty well on this beast.  Including that amazing battery life I've posted about here before.  I do think the camera is not much better than the Note5, but time will tell as I take more and more photos and perhaps Samsung tweaks their software some.

Very pleased with my purchase thus far.  You get used to this huge screen so quickly, looking at my kids S5 phone looks like I'm looking at the first touch screen phone. lol.

Cool, yeah, I was thinking about getting just the S8 (not plus) later this year.

I finally got mine and have had it less than 24 hours, and I'm blown away. I've had probably 20 smart phones, switching between a lot of providers but mainly HTC & Samsung. To me -- first impression is this is a game changer. Its all about the execution of the product, the premium product, feel in the hand in both hardware and software. you really just have to use it to understand.

The options in software and features provided make it such a perfectly rounded product that seems hard to beat by anyone else.

An initial comment on coverage... I was in a casino in Wisconsin yesterday that I typically have 0 signal and can't transfer any data with my HTC 10 (and I think the same was true with my Galaxy S6)... with the S8+ the signal was enough that I was able to transfer data with very little frustration. It was still a poor signal, but usable. Before I would shut my phone off because it was so useless at that location, now I'm able to check my email after I lost all my money gambling.

Also on my way home back in Minnesota, there is one dead spot that I always drop phone calls. I tried a call in that same area and had no problems with the new device.

I'm more concerned with usable data coverage than I am with internet speeds. With that in mind, would I benefit from prioritizing my bands B25, B26, B41 instead of the opposite order which people seem to prefer for faster speeds?

Just picked up a generic insignia black case from bestbuy, grip is lacking and protection is limited but it's super thin and makes using the fingerprint 10x easier due to the slight lip at the edge of the fingerprint so your no longer hunting for scanner itself.

Changing band priority did help with my case but it really depends on your market. My market b25 on most towers are well under 2 mbps and most are 1 or less but only because b41 and wideband b25 are not around yet. Battery life is crazy good. I have used this phone alot today starting off charge at 10am and I'm still at 70% as of right now at 620pm.

doesn't the network determine where to put you and not the handset, no matter what the handset is set at?

That's what we though but the device does have some say so. Depends on how good it is at a particular band.

Seriously, 42 minutes on battery and still at 100%. Sure it was just sitting there on my desk, but that's ridic. I've never, ever, ever, ever had a device like this. 920d57c59c5eaad998d642ac4711a591.jpg

Did you get the GS8 or GS8+?

I've never really encountered any issues with the fingerprint scanner. I don't smudge my camera and it's not that hard for me to reach on my S8+.

My roommate who bought an S8 hasn't complained about it either.

You have a Samsung Galaxy S8, and your roommate got one, too.  Do I sense a "Single White Female" vibe?

So at universal right now and my phone so far in the last 7 hours being here has only choose b41 at city walk that's it. My GS7 has been on b41 at least 50% of the time. This phone needs a update but the good news is b25 is faster by a mile anyway.

Today I've been having a lot of freeze-up issues after unlocking the phone. Perhaps the cpu is spinning up after being dormant and it's having issues with that, or perhaps some sort of memory issue, but it will lock up for a solid 10-20 seconds, really frustrating. I'm waiting so long for it to accept touch input that I'm thinking the phone is going to reboot itself, but it doesn't and eventually starts responding.

Also it seems like the phone's attempt at doing the face-unlock is hit or miss. The icon doesn't even suggest it's trying to do a face unlock most of the time, and I just have to enter my pin. I had thought that somehow got shut off and when I went in to check its setting it did the face unlock that time, so I dunno whats going on there.
